Lol, some people are really voting for the WiiU?

Yep, problem? :3

Yeah. How can people think that the WiiU will sell better than the PS4?

Read some of the post here (including OP) to find out!

I read enough to see that some people think that Mario Kart 8 and SSB4 are going to sell as much as their Wii counterparts.

Who said that? That's clearly impossible given the Wii U's install base and Smash going multiplatform. Thankfully, they don't need to sell as well as their Wii incarnations to greatly boost up the Wii U.

It's kind of tough to say. The PS4 and X1 will be competing with their predecessors in the early years while the Wii U isn't competing with anything.

Er whut? The Wii U will be competing with every other console on the market, just like those consoles will be competing with the rest.

Im pretty sure he meant PS3/360/PS4/One all fight for the same demographic of 16-32 year old males that prefer shooters/racing/sports games while Wii U is moreso directed at Nintendo fans, kids, families

Sure, but they're all still video game consoles, so they're all competing with each other.

Thats absolutely true, I just think ur reading too much into his original comment. Hes not saying it in a derogatory manner, just stating that they appeal to different demographics. PS3/PS4/360/One will all be fighting for the same crowds money for the next couple years whilr if Nintendo plays there cards right can have an entire market to themselves

Naw, he's definitely saying they're not competing period.

No I'm not, zorg1000 nailed it on the head.

Read some of the post here to find out! And yeah, they do. Otherwise, the WiiU sales boost will be too small to matter.

And that is a 10 for gymnastics thar buddy.

It isn't a niche title, it was pushed as a major title and always has been a popular, relativley new Nintendo franchise. And momentum?! Um, what momentum? ANd any momentum will be blwon apart when the other consoles come to market.

you clearly don't know what niche means.

what momentum? the momentum it starts building with it's good releases. it starts with pikmin in the next weeks.

Or it isn't a niche title as I said and you are simply wrong about that.

How many games does it take for it to build this "momentum"? 3? 10? It already has many games which people are ignoring/forget about and has no momentum. THAT shows a problem with the console overall, not simply a lack of games. Also if that was true, then why did the gamecube flop? That had many decent games but still sold poorly (but not this badly).

The problem with the "Nintendo will get the kids market" is often times they don't when it actually comes to consoles.

Young boys are more fickle than even teenagers and adults when it comes to home consoles. By the time they get to 10-12 years old, they start wanting to play games that older kids are playing and go out of their way to not play "kiddie" looking games in some cases.

The other problem is if you have an 8 year old in the household, but they have an older 13 year old sibling ... you're going to end up buying the Sony/MS console more likely than the Nintendo one because the 13 year old will raise a bigger stink about which console they want (the "cool" one) whereas young kids aren't as picky about specific game consoles per se.

They're fascinated by video games in general and as long you grab them a LEGO game or some other kids brand software they recoginize they're ok with that. So as a parent you end up getting the Playstation or XBox instead of the Nintendo because it will save you the headache of having an upset 13 year old. The 8 year old is happy either way.

I remember thinking during the GCN/PS2 era that Nintendo should clean up with the kids market. After all, the GameCube had a cute colorful design and had a lot of family friendly titles like Mario Sunshine and Animal Crossing, but it absolutely got destroyed even for the kids market by the PS2.

The Wii's explosive initial success IMO came largely off the backs of ADULTS, not kids. It was the hip/trendy thing to have at house parties for a few years for sure.

lol nice try, but I've already read through much of this thread, yet don't remember anyone saying anything so ridiculous, so you're gonna have to give me a direct quote. And no they don't need to sell that much unless you're saying a console's sales only matter if it's doing Wii-like numbers. Yeah, you don't actually mean that.
Around 7-8 million Ltd for Smash and 10+ million lifetime for Kart are great numbers.

The PS4/X1 and PS3/360 will have all of the same games (third pary). Why get a next gen console when you can get the same games on current gen? What is the Wii getting? Is the Wii even a relevant console anymore? In the end, I think the Wii U will sell no more than 35 million units, and it's flagship titles will make them a profit.

Quote tree trimmed - Kresnik.

Nintendo does it's own thing. When you compare the libraries of the next gen consoles, the Wii U has completely different games than the others. Nintendo relies on their first party games while Sony and Microsoft rely on third party games. If Nintendo was really trying to compete, they would have made the Wii U on par with the PS4 and X1.

Nintendo at one time was doing the exact same thing Sony and MS are doing. They made great first party whilst having a wealth of third party around them. Problem is they lost the third party to Sony.

Yikes, if this is all true, then NoA is being really stupid what with all their advertisements targeting children.
