Forums - Gaming - Ouya CEO: 27 percent of Ouya owners have bought a game

That sounds just awful. What are the other people using it for?

Running emulators.  The killer app on the Ouya now is emulators.  It is also for people who want a box to dabble with.

And it is really tiny actually, so it is good to toss around.  Takes up much less space than say lugging anything else around at this point.  Sure one can use a PC, but there is boot up time and so on.

For myself the Ouya and Neo-Geo X (I also now have a 3DS) replaced the 360 and PS3.  I am also looking to stay away from the next gen, because not much is there I want to jump on.

For something that is "marketed" as a console that's pretty fucking terrible.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

you would think that even the guys who use it for emulations would buy at least one small game with their ouya purchase...

seems like most people really supported a gaming console kickstarter project without the purpose to buy games on that supported console lol.

Android taking over the gaming industry confirmed.

Makes me wonder about all the poor souls that Kickstarted the Ouya. I mean there were people who pay more than $1k for this...thing. Man those people most be depressed.

I am actually considering an Ouya...mostly for emulation. But there are a few games on the market I'm considering. I don't have a tablet and only an iPhone 3GS so most of my games on it have a crappy frame rate. I think I'll wait till it's price becomes something along the lines of $60.

So an attach rate of .3? I never would have guessed a system would achieve sub 1.0 numbers. Achievement of sorts I suppose.

I find it hilarious people bought the system for emulation when PC is clearly superior in doing that lol.

So do I...

But one of the points they made when it was coming out was "look, you can play SMB on it!" they knew.

@v-rock: Yeah, for a small budget, it's great - granted, however, you can assemble a basic PC that can do the same much better quite cheaply. Everyone needs a PC, anyway.

On the Kickstarter page, pre-orders were roughly 60k. When we look at the revealed software sales figures a few days ago, there actually can't be much more sold.
The best selling of these games had a bit over 2000 sales.
Minimum total software sales are therefore 16k.

Did someone leak NPD numbers for Ouya btw. ?

You can. but then you get the overhead of a PC, and the Ouya is a LOT more portable.  Some people want equipment dedicated towards doing a specific function.  On that note, if one is going to argue for a general device that also does gaming, then why bother with consoles?  Can end up getting superior gaming on a PC from specs, right?
