Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One To Support Mods? 'It's Up To Developers' Says Major Nelson

Now THIS is interesting!

Yeah ... maybe.  I'd bet my sister's cat that it's not nearly that cut and dried.  Xbox isn't exactly known for having an open system, so we're still probably looking at an extensive process to even get a mod up on the service.  Probably a lot of restrictions, too, and perhaps even fees both for the mod developer and the people who want it.  It wouldn't surprise me if the mod itself had to be pushed through by the game's developers (good luck with that).  I have my doubts about many fan-made mods appearing on the XO.

On the other hand, if some of the very best did appear, that'd be pretty nifty.  It will never, ever get close to what the PC has, of course, but a selection of the top mods would only make games better.

i guess emulation will be pretty simple then XD

and i guess the Wii U is the only console that's trying to stay as a console :P

well, with the right tools you can do emulation on the Wii-U!

X-D

In fact, the Wii games are emulated on WiiU.

Of course everything won't be as pretty as the article says. What I'm just saying is that it is an interesting move. Wheter it works or it's just plain a pain in the ass to submit mods...we'll see.

Of course, I would see pretty lame that "mods" come in the form of paid DLC.

yeah, I'm a little scared about next gen, we could be seeing a lot of piracy. the PS4 and Xbox One have architecture that's similar to PCs, which could mean that emulation will be a breeze compared to this gen. and the WiiU is weaker than the Xbox One and the PS4 and the weaker the console the easier it could get emulated, but for now it kinda seems like it's the safest console as even the PS3 and Xbox360 still haven't gotten emulators yet...

The PS3 actually supports mods too but the only game using that feature that I know of is Unreal Tournament 3.

This is sick news! I hope developers will allow mods (especially Minecraft mods)

I was hoping MS and Sony would copy steams Workshop, it makes using mods soooo much easier

Would be good if true, though I wouldnt believe a word Nelson says.
