and then when the generation ends and the services are shut down how do you intend to redownload your games if you purchase more than your storage capacity? or when your console fails.

yeah, with way things are going , digital is the best.
there is no point of getting physical nowadays since you just pop the disk in and it will install and update, consoles turned into mini PCs basically
plus if its digital you can download it any time you want, and on any system you want , and as many times you want , without it getting scratched or all that, and it saves a lot of physical space and money along with the trouble of finding a copy and all that.

I got so many games laying around and not enough space to hold them, these here are only "current gen" games, older games take even more space.

PS4 plays PSN / PS3 (digital) games , but not PS3 (disk) games.

Digital is more future proof than physical.

Physical on console, especially really good console games I wish to collect.
and all digital on the PC front, (mix of piracy and steam)

I will still buy physical copies of collector editions for specific franchises, but other than that, digital is the way to go.
