Forums - Gaming - It's obvious that Square Enix are already making Final Fantasy XVI

It is in their best interest to release ~ 1 big actual Square Enix game per year (not Eidos), so their schedule looks something like this

Early 2014 - FF XIII-3
Late 2014 - FF XV
Late 2015 - KH 3
Late 2016 - FF XVI

1 per fiscal year, seems reasonable to me, though maybe KH 3 and FF XVI could be swapped given they haven't actually started Kingdom Hearts

That list sounds about right. I would liked FFXVI to be announced in 2014 in preperation for a 2016 release.

Seems a bit limited if you consider Final Fantasy is not their only franchise. KH and FF are different series also so should be separated. This list is good however it should be main FF titles only. They have what? 8-10 Studios? I don't see why 3 studios can't work on a main series FF game at a time, 3 years to produce a good title is enough, they have the engine.

Hmm, pie.

I am just thinking of their "mega-hits"

From a business perspective, it is sensible to try and maintain their income from year to year and not just have huge spikes. They can work on plenty of other games, but I think it is sensible to keep all these games separated.

Most gamers would agree that it is best to not release the games too frequently, so FF and KH alternating years would be good from that perspective.

But this isn't like another CoD or Assassin Creed which are basically the same game but I get your point. Then at least a every 2 years cycle.

Of it doesn't help that in reality I'm just bitter, 12 in 2007 and 13 in 2010, that's all we've really had in 10 years. Sequals and online game just don't cut it when that's not what I want.

Hmm, pie.

I think square will do what they did during the golden era and release 15, 16 and 17 each a year from each other. We must remember that XV was still a spin off up until 2011. So Undoubtably a separate team was working on the next main entry from a while back. By this years end a dedicated team will be working on FFXVII ready for a 2017 release.

I'm predicting

FFXV: fall 2014/early 2015.
FFXVI: Early 2016.
FFXVI: late 2017.

Final Fantasy XII director is most definitely on it. It's a top secret project that no one has heard about yet, not even top FF employees. You can be damn sure he's working on XVI.

There is not one director one a numbered FF preproduction. Most of the time they are five to take the big decisions.

Edit : And let's remember that Squeenix promised to not take more than 2 years of developpement anymore, and that FFXV is supposed to have sequels

I get your point, but these games should feel epic, I remember Ubi said that an AC release should feel like an epic event that doesn't come too frequently, like GTA and I feel that FF should be the same (they obviously changed their minds)

I think everyone is dissapointed! X and XII were two of my favourite PS2 games (even if the latter only came a month before PS3), but XIII and its sequels, even though I enjoyed them more than most, never felt that special in the end. Even going back, the PS1 games feel epic and special and Squeenix needs to bring that back!

Or, just start a new series and make a nice turn based jRPG please!

I'd definitely welcome this. Some new franchises might be nice but I can't see SquEnix doing this any time soon, their attempts at the start of this gen didn't go well, they had issues with development and ones made by triAce never even arrived on the most owned consoles in Japan. And you are so right on the PS1 era games.

Hmm, pie.

Considering that they said XV will be an "Epic" or, a game probably with sequels, XVI is probably just a few jotted down drawings in Squenix's secret diary.

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Skyrim 100%'d. Dark Souls 100%'d.
Dark Souls > Skyrim.
Halo 4 is the best damn FPS since Halo 3.
Proud pre-orderer of 2 PS4's and an Xbox One.

Currently Playing: Dark Souls II, South Park
Playstation 4: MGS V GZ, Killzone: Shadow Fall, NBA 2k14.

Well they have a new president and want to take a new direction, but unfortunately that seems to be making phone and tablet games
