Forums - Gaming - It's obvious that Square Enix are already making Final Fantasy XVI

Square-Enix has gone through some massive internal restructuring in the wake of XIII. XIII-2 is admitted to be the last game the S-E first party production team made before it was scrapped.

Pretty much all the rules of Final Fantasy development are now out the window. They might have a rough sketch for XVI, but as we've seen, they basically make their roughest ideas public the instant you can make a trailer. Chances are they're working on XV's sequels. It's possible Agni's Philosophy is XVI's draft, but it's also possible it's an XV sequel. Or they were being really honest when they called it a tech demo. We just don't know enough to tell.

I hope to god they are. At one point we had FF8, 9 and 10 all within a year of each other.

Now we have FF12 an entire generation ago and FF13 the only main title in the series released in an entire generation. I know Online might make them loads of cash but I'd much prefer main series games and definitely no stupid sequals.

FFXV followed by XVI a year to 1.5 years later then XVII the same time frame after that. Stop faffing about and make the games your customers bloody want.

Hmm, pie.

Hopefully it's being done, by the same person who made that godlike game called final fantasy ix *faints*

Ito is on the job.

We just need them to kill off the damn awful XIII games, and all will be well.

I also hope that Ito is leading production of FFXVI. Thankfully, LR FFXIII will be the last game in that series. I'm not sure what Kitase/Toriyama will be working on after that, though. Maybe they'll finally start on the FFVII Remake.

SE is having all of their employees on damage control duty, there might be ideas for 16 but what's the definition of 'working on'...

Well I think it's obvious.

The entire FF XIII saga is almost done, with LR launching early next year.

FF XIV relaunch is ready, just a few weeks left from release.

And there is the mysterious project of the ff XII team.

I think FF XVI could be announced at E3 or TGS 2014.

Talking about it at the local café?

I'm sure FFXVI has long past the concept ideas phase. By now, I'd say it's probably in full production. It likely started early pre-production in 2007 or 2008.

It is in their best interest to release ~ 1 big actual Square Enix game per year (not Eidos), so their schedule looks something like this

Early 2014 - FF XIII-3
Late 2014 - FF XV
Late 2015 - KH 3
Late 2016 - FF XVI

1 per fiscal year, seems reasonable to me, though maybe KH 3 and FF XVI could be swapped given they haven't actually started Kingdom Hearts
