Forums - Nintendo - How To Market/Sell Games Like Wonderful 101, X, Bayo 2, etc.

I think Nintendo is on the right track with the promotions for Wonderful 101 (buy Pikmin 3 and get 30% off on the eShop) and Shin Megami Tensei 4 promotion with Fire Emblem Awakening.

I feel Nintendo needs to push these types of promotions moreso. First of all, I think there should be a way to see these promotions on the main Miiverse page IMO. The 3DS should also be getting something similar to it. Just so regular people can know more about these promotions and not just the more hardcore Nintendo fanatics.

I would like to see Wonderful 101 pushed hard, I would've suggested maybe something like a bonus Wonderful 101 animated short/demo bundled with each copy of Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: TF. Or maybe pre-installed with every new Wii U. Stuff like that.

Maybe you should get 30% off a eShop version of Wonderful 101 if you purchase Mario 3D World, DKC: TF, or Zelda: WW HD this holiday in North America and Japan. That would help a lot.

I'd like to see much stronger Club Nintendo incentives for purchasing games like 101, X, Bayo 2, and select high-quality third party titles too. I'm talking some really attractive and highly collectible Nintendo swag if you pre-order or buy these games.

I think building a loyal following through Club Nintendo + Miiverse + eShop promotions can mobilize a "hardcore" following on Nintendo platforms, but you really have to incentivize it.

Also 3DS bundles are great, but the Wii U should get some too. I'd like to see a gold Wii U model with Bayo 2 and perhaps even Bayo 1 bundled and a special Bayonetta etching on the side of the console. Maybe even add in a Bayonetta figurine that unlocks the character as playable in Super Smash Bros. (NFC).

I honestly am so scared about games like Bayo 2 and X because of the Metroid Prime commercials which were...lackluster.

Nintendo has a hard time making commercials for mature games look good.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

Wonderful 101 could use a toy line or cartoon, Bayonetta a comic, X an anime series

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

They should start by actually marketing them...
I'm almost considering buying Game & Wario out of pity...

Have a nice day...

And maybe they could package it with fully-functional heel-guns, a luxury yacht, and an all-expenses-paid vacation to the International Space Station while they're at it.

It's going to take a lot for Nintendo to sell some of these games, but really a NFC figurine is a 30 cent manufacturing cost. Porting Bayo 1 over is a nomimal cost and should be done anyway to build audience for the game.

It's better than sending these games to market and letting them die. The marketing division isn't going to do sh*t either, we've seen Nintendo's track record for TV commercials, especially with games that aren't in the Mario/Zelda/DKC verse ... and it's ugly and that's not going to change overnight.

They need to rally the Nintendo community around these games and provide strong (but relatively cost effective) incentives for people to get off the fence and stop just waiting for the next Mario/Zelda/Mario Kart/Smash Bros. pattern.

I think perhaps Nintendo needs to bring their big guns in to tie to games that suffer from a lack of exposure but are great games in their own right. Animes and a toy line are decent ideas too, but lets really leverage the Nintendo fanbase.

Lets say there's a promotion that if you buy any one of Mario 3D World, Zelda: WW HD, or DKC: Tropical Freeze, you are eligable for 30% off The Wonderful 101 on the eShop.

Lets say 1/20 people take advantage of this offer and 8 million people purchase Mario 3D/Zelda/DKC during this promotional period. That's 400,000 sales for Wonderful 101 just off this promotion.

For a game like W101, that's a big bump. Now you have at least 400,000 people who have enjoyed W101, which can be the basis for building it into a decent sized franchise.

With X they could always refuse to localize it for North America until people dance and beg for it first. That seemed to work wonders for Xenoblade.

Bayonetta and Wonderful 101 are lost causes, though. People are simply allergic to buying Platinum's games. I guess they could try changing them to Marionetta and Wonderful 101 Marios if it's not too late.

- Don't rely on more than 100k sales
- Budget accordingly

Metroid Prime commercial was straight up dope. I don't know which commerical you were watching.

I do agree that they usually have trouble marketing mature games. The problem is: they don't even market them at all.
