Forums - Microsoft - Dead Rising 3 won't force progression, side story available via Xbox SmartGlass

OXMUK

Dead Rising's strict timeline of events was a source of umbrage for some players - survivors would die, mission opportunities elapse as you hurtled around the open world, trying to balance the priorities. it's a system built for multiple playthroughs, essentially, as you won't know what to prioritise without hindsight. Recognising this, Capcom wants Dead Rising 3 to be a lot more easy-going.

"It's the sheer freedom that you have within to play how you want, experience it how you want, " executive producer Josh Bridge told the LA Times in an interview yesterday. "That is one of the things that we really wanted to drive home.

"The past instalments were relatively regimented and you were kind of forced along at a particular rate of time. Now we've unlocked that to really let you explore this world. We went deeper with more stuff to interact with, more areas to explore, it just feels like a much richer world as a result."

Bridge also took a moment to explain the Xbox One exclusive's SmartGlass features - besides letting you call in airstrikes and play exclusive missions via a tablet or phone, the game will send you text messages from within the world.

"We have a feature in the game that essentially interweaves through the story and tells its own story with its own character," said Bridge. "It's as though the game kind of comes out of the screen and you're literally holding it in your hand.

"You'll get calls from this character, text messages and just additional game play from this device, which is kind of cool. We geeked out on it because it was cool just to have our phones be part of the game. It's something we were surprised by, how many folks were really excited by that.

"It's new for us as developers to have this opportunity that we haven't had before, and now going onto Xbox One we had this. We tried to really run with it and tried to give it its own character, essentially."

Fuck these people.

This is sounding less and less like a Dead Rising game.

lol I knew it... now imagine the text message and calls thing timed perfectly with tense moment of stealth.... the shit rings the Kinect sensor picks it up and you go all mad at the dude that just sent it.... that is what I want from that set up.... it will make a game like dead rising that much more fun to play IMO.... I still can't fathom how gamers can say they are not attracted to that kind of immersive augmentation of gameplay... I thought that's what true gamers where looking for all that time.... or is it just about better real life graphics and physics ???

It's about going fucking nuts with a paddle-chainsaw from street to street. Put stealth in a tenchu game, not in a Dead Rising game. It's not about better graphics or physics. It's about understanding what your true audience wants.

That's precisely the point. The Time Limit should be on by default, and you can turn it off if you want to. This way you're showing that you don't care for your original fanbase, but for those new people you want to attract.

why Microsoft are doing this?

I'm glad time limit are gone in default mode
Fuck time limit,i'm not playing Forza Rising 3

I don't like the time limit as well,
glad that it's finally gone.
