I was thinking about this earlier, and he has been offered and denied many great roles: He was offered to be Batman (1989), Hooper (Richard Dreyfus' character) in Jaws, the lead in An Officer and a Gentleman (Richard Gere's breakout role), Richard Gere's role in Pretty Woman,   Shawshank Redemption, and the biggest role he has turned down? This character named Indiana Jones!

He was also offered but was turned down for Speed, Total Recall, Big, The Firm, Taxi Driver, Twelve Monkeys, and Death Becomes Her.

If he even gets half of these roles, he has the best career ever.... he is having a comeback but having Batman, Indiana Jones, Twelve Monkeys, Big, Shawshank, and An Officer and a Gentleman puts you above greatness.

What are you talking about? This isn't even a question. Not even close.

Some cool info there assuming it's all accurate.  Then again, think how many other big name actors have turned down roles they probably later wish they hadn't.  I'm guessing it happens all the time.  That and, conversely, think how many no names got their breaks that way.

Finally, I'm glad some of the roles you mentioned were as is (for example, I'm glad Harrison Ford was Indy.

Some classics for sure.  Same with DeNiro.

Same here... Michael Keaton was great as Batman and Harrison Ford IS Indy, no doubt.

And I am sure most are accurate, and yes, some actors have turned down major roles but from what I have seen it seems Jeff could've got the best if he didn't turn down some roles or if he were accepted (for example, Terry Gilliam's first choice James Cole of Twelve Monkey was Jeff Bridges).

I have met Jeff Bridges in real life and the man is the nicest guy you will ever meet. He not only signed autographs, but conversed with fans and looked like he was enjoying it. His people had to drag him away from talking with fans... so if you ever meet him, he's one of the few actors you don't have to shy away from! The guy is not only a legendary actor, but a legendary person too!

The key to Jeff Bridge's comeback is a comic book movie, Disney movie and a remake. He's doing very well, not knocking him, but any actor could have pulled off those roles.

I think Sly Stallone is doing very well for himself. Masterminding 3 franchises across 3 decades, and he still has more to offer.

i've never heard that he was offered "indiana jones" .As i know tom selleck was offered this role before ford got it?

the same with batman.Tim Burton has already worked with  michael keaton on bertlejuice therefore i think he was the first choice(but a real horrible one)

A lot of actors were considered for Indiana Jones, but the only ones that were really considered were Harrison Ford, Tom Selleck, Nick Nolte, and Jeff Bridges.

As for Batman, he was probably considered by the studio.

But dang, look at the movies he either turned down or was turned down for. As you said, actors do that all the time, but Jeff probably has the best of the bunch... if he even accepts half of those movies, he has a legendary career. He still had a great career... but could you imagine not only being Indiana Jones, but Batman as well? Also starring in Shawshank Redemption and Twelve Monkeys? Dang...

well,i think it was not bad luck but part of his choice-if you take a look at his carreer:he never was interessted in action movies blockbuster style.

Harrison Ford did it the opposite way:He started late and he was not the first choice for indiana jones and(maybe i'm wrong) not for star wars but he got the roles in the end because he had the right friends(george lucas-since american graffity)and turned into one of the most famous stars.

it reminds me of matt dillon and brad pitt.Matt Dillon was successfull and famous when he was young, brad pitt was a nobody at that time, but matt dillon never cared about blockbuster or mainstream movies or shagging female hollywood stars with big PR(and you can have tons of PR with Cameron Diaz and Lindsay Lohan). He was offered to be colombus(instead of depardieu) or pulp fiction( the role of bruce willis) but did not went the easy way but more the independent one and when making movies with big directors they were low budget.Ccoppolla was bankrupt when he made outsiders and rumble fish and Kevin Spaceys Albino Alligator(despite the title no action movie) is a one-room movie.

i think that those guys just don't like too much fame or too simple hollywood stuff.

RIPD SUUUUUCKED! Got to see it a bit early. It's like a complete Men in Black copy and the CGI is terrible for a film that has a $130M budget.
