Maybe, but Abyss for 3DS was also not a failure...yea, you might be right though, Tales of Hearts and Innocence sold poorly. To be fair Tempest is the worst rated Tales of game though.

However aren't Tales of Hearts and Innocence 2D Tales games? The 3D ones sell better, and Abyss remake did do well.

You might be right though, but wow. in 2009 the only Tales games were Wii and 360, and now PS3 might have 5...

Hideo Baba was also very clear that the priority for the Tales games is Japan. Tales of the abyss did about as good as Innocence R for the Vita in Japan. Where it sold more was in the west, but he was clearly saying that they are gonna prioritise the japanese gamers cause theres more of them.

Dont get me wrong, i would love to see some more tales on the 3DS (Tales of the abyss is one of the 3 3DS games i have held on to), but if you have read the interviews with Baba, he has been pretty clear. He is happy to bring the tales games west, but their focus is Japan.

I c.

Well in all honesty, if that's the case, Vita title?

As i told you, it has a better chance than the 3DS. But its most likely PS3.

So, Tales is a yearly franchise now they found their userbase (and have their engine up and running) on PS3?

Not sure how I feel about that.  Atelier did it too, but earlier in the gen & it's suffering now by the looks of things by the time they're onto their fifth game.

Still, I'm very much looking forward to Xillia.  And besides, I believe Xillia 2 was better received than the original so I suppose there's no reason they can't improve despite a relatively short dev time.

Beat me to it.  I think the arguments for Tales on 3DS of "look at how much Abyss sold" don't take into account how many of those sales came from NA; and how much we overtrack JRPG's in NA.  Comparatively, Abyss barely sold better than Innocence in Japan (like you say) and they were both ports of old Tales titles, so Abyss barely has the upper hand.  I can't see a mainline game coming to either 3DS or Vita really.

We've had enough -ea and and -ia and -a.

Creales.

Thats a good point Soriku. This new tales will probably not come out until next year, so its not technacly a yearly franchise with the main entries.

Tales has always been a yearly franchise pretty much but their console Tales game for this year is the ToS HD collection, and their title for last year was Xillia 2 which reused a bunch of stuff from XIllia 1. There hasn't been a completely original non-sequel console Tales game in a while.

Tales has always been a yearly franchise? 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2006, and 2010 saw no Tales of games.

But, ah who cares. I love Tales.

P.S. Last year, Japan also got Tales of the Hero's for PSP. Looks cool. Actually they release a lot of spin-off/side games for the PSP (9 Tales of the World games, 9!), so wonder they are financially strapped.

True, I often forget that the DS entries were mothership titles during some of the earlier years of the generation.

Can't wait for Tales Of Homophobia, Tales of Catastrophia, Tales Of Malaria

I can't wait either.

Do it, Namco. Have Hard Gay assist you in writing the story and designing the characters
