So, Tales is a yearly franchise now they found their userbase (and have their engine up and running) on PS3?
Not sure how I feel about that. Atelier did it too, but earlier in the gen & it's suffering now by the looks of things by the time they're onto their fifth game.
Still, I'm very much looking forward to Xillia. And besides, I believe Xillia 2 was better received than the original so I suppose there's no reason they can't improve despite a relatively short dev time.

Hideo Baba was also very clear that the priority for the Tales games is Japan. Tales of the abyss did about as good as Innocence R for the Vita in Japan. Where it sold more was in the west, but he was clearly saying that they are gonna prioritise the japanese gamers cause theres more of them. Dont get me wrong, i would love to see some more tales on the 3DS (Tales of the abyss is one of the 3 3DS games i have held on to), but if you have read the interviews with Baba, he has been pretty clear. He is happy to bring the tales games west, but their focus is Japan. |
Beat me to it. I think the arguments for Tales on 3DS of "look at how much Abyss sold" don't take into account how many of those sales came from NA; and how much we overtrack JRPG's in NA. Comparatively, Abyss barely sold better than Innocence in Japan (like you say) and they were both ports of old Tales titles, so Abyss barely has the upper hand. I can't see a mainline game coming to either 3DS or Vita really.
