Forums - Sales - will PS4/One take off right away?

These two consoles will most likely have very good launch sales due to loyal fans picking one up right away but how will they do after the launch hype dies down? Basically every console in the past 10 years has gotten off to a slow start with Wii being the exception. DS, PSP, 360, PS3, 3DS, Vita, Wii U all got off to pretty slow starts for different reasons, will PS4 and One continue this trend?

I personally think they will for a few reasons. The average consumer looking to buy a console could very likely choose the $200-300 PS3/360/Wii U in favor of $400-500 new consoles. Also PS360 has a user base of over 150 million and with a very large percentage of games being cross-gen alot of those people may simply stick to there older consoles for another year or two. Another reason is neither has a killer app exclusive that will cause tons of people to upgrade, Killzone, Infamous, Dead Rising, Ryse, etc look very good but there not series that sell huge.

Overall im guessing they sill sell similar to PS360 in there first full year so PS4 about 8-10 million and One 6-8 million in 2014. I dont see them truly taking off until 2015 when they get there first price cut, PS360 support dies down and both have a strong line up of exclusives.

They'll have a good launch, then tail off quite severely until the 7th gen support is cut.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

PS4 will start off stronger, due it's price

But i expect the xbox to finish quite well

They'll have good games but i expect Wii U styled results. Both will take a big drop for most of 2014 with Xbox One taking the bigger drop. I just don't see the big leap that past gens have offered and most of my gaming friends don't either. This coming from a guy that owns EVERYTHING currently supported.

Hard to tell.

Both can do better than WiiU mainly because they won't have game droughts like those of Nintendo's console, and PS4 will do better than Xbox One thanks to its price advantage and the fact that it will be available worldwide, unlike MSoft's console.

So, Xbox One may do like WiiU or a bit worse (the extra games probably won't be enough to compensate the extra 150 $/€ and the reduced countries where it will be available), while PS4 will probably do better than both, but not enough to be called take off.

As Conegamer said, until PS360 start to get less support, its sales won't take off.

PS4 will start strong, then fall starting in January. XBone will start strong in the US, poorly in Europe and fall in both territories

I expect the launches to be really strong but both will face crippling shortages after that for about 2 months at least. PS4 should do stronger than Xbox because of price but i think we all way over predict what they will sell.

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Every 8th generation console has struggled post launch. I'm sure that the PS4 and Xbox One will have a good launch, but then fall massively similiar tor the Wii U.

Add me! :)

i am in agreement with everyone above. The PS4 launch lineup is average with very few exclusive system sellers, Xbox one faces the higher priectag. I think they will perform a bit better than what the Wii U is doing right now. Maybe 50k weekly. The Wii U will have the better momentum thanks to the holiday lineup and mario kart 8

I agree. Die-hard fans will rush for it during holidays.

I don´t see casual players paying more than $ 300 on new consoles next year.
