So you are implying that PS4 will be a failure like the Wii U? It's not farfetched to think that, but seeing that companies have announced new big projects for the PS4 but none for the Wii U, I cannot follow your line of thought.

No because the PS4 will have Western games something Nintendo doesn't have. I'm talking in respect to Japanese console games.

We're going to be seeing a lot less of those, I don't expect great Japanese support for the PS4 either. Are there any Japanese console games for the PS4 right now with a release period?

FFXV is far off, Deep Down doesn't even have a decided name yet, and KH3...is due sometime around 2020?. And those are the only 3 Japanese games for the PS4 that were announced.

SE,Capcom,SE. I expect no others for a long time. Compare that to the amount of Western console games on the system coming at launch or with a proper release date, compared to those 3 with not even a window for release. (And those were all like Target render CGIs, I've even heard that only 12 sec of the FFXV gameplay trailer was real-time on GAF)

Expecting PS4 to do great in Japan, when we're not sure if it will even launch by the end of this year, is being really optimistic.

This is not a Nintendo problem alone. When 2 of the 3 console manufacturers are in Japan, but not seeing Japanese developers create content for their home consoles, it's pretty worrisome. The reason why I also expect Nintendo to pool their resources into a hybrid next-gen is not only because of the WiiU doing poorly, but because the Japanese market shift in general.

I agree to a certain extent. But in general Japanese 3rd parties have far more confidence in Sony's home consoles than in Nintendo ones. Handheld wise, it's the other way around, but not as extreme as it's in the home console case. Having zero games from all companies but one, almost 1 year into the console lifetime is terribly worrying. PS4 has not even been released, we can't judge support yet.

Japanese 3rd parties also have far more confidence in handhelds than any console right now, especially if Sony is willing to neglect Japan this year and launch in the West 1st.

If Sony doesn't even show that Japan is a top priority for the PS4, what makes you think 3rd parties in Japan will? Even the Japanese 3rd parties right now developing for consoles have said that they're going to stick to this gen for a while longer.

We can already judge to a degree the potential future Japanese support on the PS4, by the games that we know are coming. Just like how people can judge the WiiU right now by the games that we know aren't coming.

Sometimes you just gotta know that Japan has let go.

Sometimes you just gotta know that Japan has let go.

You cannot compare a console that's yet to launch to a console that has been on the market for over 8 months. Wii U has literally no support, and you know that come the launch, most if not all of the series that made it to the PS3, will make it to the PS4 because they will be profitable. Meanwhile, Wii entries will not transition to Wii U and Wii U isn't getting any support at all, and chances will be slimmer once PS3 and 360 finally die, since multiplats will remain among PS4/XOne.

PS4 may be the only console capable of revitalizing the home console business, whether or not because 3rd parties simply don't want business with Nintendo, but the fact is that all the home console support will be heading to the PS4 once the PS3 dies. Wii U will be a non-existing entity for them, just another Nintendo 1st party console, like GC or N64 were, but with far, far less 3rd party support and perhaps with even worse sales at the end of its lifetime.

Wii U down once again in Dengeki and Famitsu. Not boding well for the console. Can someone tell me which Japanese game that's not from Nintendo will be coming out for the Wii U in the middle term (Until the end of the year)?
The PS2 port compilation of Yakuza, I guess nothing else, but please correct me if I'm wrong. There are a few Nintendo games coming up, yes, but the TOTAL and ABSOLUTE lack of 3rd party games really portraits the future for the console. If it has worse support than the Wii had and with the abysmal level of sales, then I don't think we will see any 3rd party Japanese games for the Wii U during its lifetime.
At this point of time, the 360 had an incredible library in comparison to the Wii U, and that's all that needs to be said.

Actually, isn't Wii U up quite handily once again? If we look at Media Create, of course. I don't get why there's such a difference.

Not according to Famitsu, it's down around 10%, but the rest of the consoles went down as well. Level remains equally awful though

Once the support for the PS3 dies, more companies are just going to develop for handhelds, because it's more profitable for them.

PS3 is already waning, and Japan might not even get the PS4 this year. So Japan has a late start, with a lower install base, compared to the 3DS with it's install base about to explode.

Which do they take advantage of? Most Japanese developers don't even get on board until SE gets a Final Fantasy out and then take advantage of the increasing install base.  And when is that coming out?

Expecting PS3 devs to magically transition into PS4 is lunacy. Japan was too invested in the PS3 before launch for it's own good. Now they are wary. Do we have even 1 Japanese launch games for PS4? EDIT (We do! Knack! PS4 taking Japan by storm confirmed!) PS3 had 5 at launch.

It's not very hard to see how this is going to play out here.

PS4 will have more than a game at launch obviously, expecting the contrary, that is lunacy. TGS 2013 still ahead things need to clear up before you can judge the launch. What I was after, in any case, is that Wii U is already selling like a dead console and if Nintendo plans on competing for the home console market, it will be tough when it's getting ignored by about every developer. PS4 is in a better position, due to the brand strength of PS3 and considering how 3rd party games have sold for its predecessor. If you believe that no home console will sell well this gen, you are simply outside of the reality. Let's make a bet, I'm telling you PS4 will definitely sell more than the Wii U lifetime and that support 1 year in will be miles better for the PS4.

I'm beginning to wonder whether it has had the opposite effect of alienating some of the original fanbase.

I hope not.  It looks very good and feedback seems to be extremely positive.  I'm playing Atelier Ayesha at the moment and it's a very solid entry imo, so I don't think it's been people put off my the series either.

Just wonder if it's series fatigue by this point.  A game a year for 5 years.
