Forums - Microsoft - New Rumor - Ugly Rumor - Project Fortaleza canceled.

Remember those leaked documents?  First something like 'Smart Glass' coming out in 2012. Then they had a new Kinect and new Xbox coming out in 2013.  Followed in 2014 by a project called 'Fortazela Glasses.'  These are some kind of virtual reality/augmented reality glasses that work with your new Xbox.

I *might* not have heard from someone *who probably does not work at Microsoft* that the project known as the 'fortaleza glasses' has been canceled.  It sounded similar to the Oculus Riff – glasses headset – which also makes doing 3D easy – like a View Master.  It would also allow asymmetrical game-play as everyone gets their own screen.  Sony is Rumor to be working on their own glasses as well.

I don't know if this is true, nor how it reflects work on the Oculus Riff. Perhaps this is good news for the Riff and it will be a new medium like TV?  Or is there something else going on with Google Glasses?  Or can one deduct that Microsoft will buy Oculus? Or is there something else going on with Google Glasses?

Do you think 3D headsets are in the future of gaming/entertainment?

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Doesn't really bother me if this is true. Hard for me to really be disappointed when we never even got to see a tech demo. I'm more interested in Illumiroom.

I dont think its cancelled, just delayed. The consumer ruined the plans so theyll try bring them back in 6-7 Years time.

I thought forteleza was more AR than occulus rift type 3d?

well who knows, but if they are really interested by the tech I agree they could be looking at acquiring occulus riff ... if I recall it's pretty much how Kinect came to existence no ??? didn't they bought out a company working on motion tracking for that ???

Well to hardcore gamers it's probably a good thing since they hate anything that is gimmicky.

I know! Like those silly gimmicks - two thumbtacks, rumble controls, headsets, buttons that look like triggers, HD graphics, and other pesky 'flash in the pan' gimmicks.

This has nothing to do with the Rift

that's not true... some """""hardcore"""""" gamers do.... I don't find it gimmicky since it is used everyday for dashboard navigation, and even if it was many gamers (hardcore too) love gimmicks.... cause it's silly and fun.... hardcore gamers are not all competitive players that just care about input latency and kill ratios....
I play for fun and social interaction.... I never played with that many different people that were not gamers than since I have a Kinect and the fact that I can share my passion because of Kinect with people that wouldn't have cared before is priceless....
I got insane table tennis matches with friends, got to play more with the wife than just peggle and clash of heroes with fruit ninja.... even got my local bar to do dance central nights on Thursdays.... and it got them more customers on that dead night than ever before

In a way, they had been working on stuff like it - and bought a different company than PrimeSince which did the original Kinect 1.0.  They bought Canesta, a 3D CMOS chip manufacture (I do not know if those chips are in Kinect 2.0 for the X1.) For a flagship game on the original Xbox - Bungie.  For voice recognition- they bought out the 'Tell Me' network.  For video conferencing – Skype, etc.

Plus, with the accidental death of Dean Putney, one of the Occulus Riff's founders, last month.  It might be a good thing, so they can back it and make sure it works.  Incidently, I believe Riff said they recently had a big infusion of cash.
