If the console wasn't already in production than a day one patch wouldn't be needed. So yeah. They have already started producing them. The ram up grand is not going to happen. I'd sweep this rumor under the rug.

i was going to say something along those lines, how can they change the ram if its to late to even change the software..

but i dont know much about production and it occured what if they mass produce the hard drives with the software installed just to virtually plug them into the xbox,  so the HD's are well into production ready to be slotted in, and they cant really go through them all to change the software.  but i dont kno anything so its pure conjecture.

still think a ram upgrade is highly unlikely

Even is so I don't seem the hard drives loaded with the OS a head of time.. Anyway if it's anything like current console the OS has to be on the system or at least the very basic part and the hard drive formatted for that system so it know that it belongs there. So I still don't see it. If they did write the hard drive before the system is built couldn't they just rewrite it and save everyone the hassle?

You have no idea if they are in production. The day one patch probably isn't hard to do so it's not an issue until it's in people's home. Then the update will be applied. Why bother now when it's definitely going to get done. As far as this rumor it needs to be done ASAP if true.

idno, i just figured there must be something faster then loading all the software on each console seperatly once you get it pieced together. that would be so time consuming. and thought they probably already have a few hundred thousand hardrives formatted and they didnt wanna take the time to reprogram.  its alot easier to issue a patch

Except the increments are usually lower than 16. The PSOne had 3.5 MB of RAM, including VRAM and the half a meg devoted to sound. PS2 had 38 MB including sound and video RAM. And, of course the PS3 has 512 and the PS4 has 8 GB. But that's a 11-fold increase followed by a 13 fold increase followed by a 16 fold increase. The regular RAM increase is going up, to the extent where I fully expect the PS4 to have at least 150 GB of RAM.

Besides, people generally agree that the PS3 was too technologically ahead of its time to be profitable at launch. You'd think Sony would show an iota of restrant, maybe making the mediumn console again like back in the PS3 era. Instead, they are once again the most powerful machine. And sure, for $400, that's a good deal for customers. But imagine what a 4 GB RAM PS4 would be like, selling at $300 and still overwhelming the Wii U while not being much wearker than the far more expensive One.

You think they could lower the price by $100 by dropping the RAM from 8GB to 4GB?

The RAM isn't costing them that much in total.

I was thinking more than just RAM. There are all sorts of ways the PS4's price could have been cut even further whil still being comprable to the One. A less impressive GPU, DDR3 RAM instead of GDDR5, an option with a hard drive of "only" 200 GB, etc. That could have made the system's price on par with that of the Wii U's while being comprable technically to the far more expensive One.

Not only the hd OS need to changed, the firmware of the bluray too.  Maybe the patch was something that happened no matter the policy change. Only want to work in the OS until the last moment. The production of materials started, I dont think they have begun to assemble.

I don't believe the RAM increase since we are pretty close to launch.

A GPU clock increase is new...this shoots down the other rumor that they were having heat issues.
