Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Game Development Requires Twice The Human Resources Than Before

well this is very disappointing. Nintendo is so out of touch with whats happening in the gaming industry. Didn't they know that EVERYONE else experienced the same problems at the beginning of last gen, but has now adjusted accordingly. Nintendo should have noticed, and prepared before hand and they had plenty of time to do so.
Nintendo needs new management, something very screwy is going on at Nintendo. you would think a Big multi billion dollar company like Nintendo would be prepared for things like this :/

Oh boy, were they under self imposed media blackout during last 8 years or so and missed all the news regarding switch from SD to HD?

Miyamoto saying this, made me feel I was back to 2006 or 2007.

Back then everybody was talking about how development costs had risen.

Like in my other post. They could have listned to all of the problems that every dev had with HD development but the only way they would know how much resources they would need is by making an HD game.

Has anyone noticed how well polished Nintendo games always are? I don't really blame them, cause there are still LOTS of HD games with tons of glitches, glitched graphics and save glitches, frozen animations and such. I think it still has to do with HD gaming, because I can't remember that kind of glitches in de non-HD era. Games from this generation have been way more glitched than the generations before. Nintendo wants their games to be high quality and yes, it needs time to adjust to HD-gaming if they want their new games to be the same quality like non HD games.

Essentially, they could have had a small section of their R&D working on HD development since 2007 or '08. Even without having a confirmed next gen hardware, it really doesn't make sense that no one underneath the Nintendo umbrella was testing the waters until 2010 or 2011, unless they are run by some short sighted morons.

Yes, but they should of been doing tests while they where making the Wii U. That's what is done during the pre-production of TV shows and Movies. They don't just go this this and this. And it works on camera. Nintendo should of had a test game being built around HD requirements and outlined specs of the console.

They could of used even Skyward Sword. They could of built it as a HD title (just its final output would be for Wii, also giving them a freebie SS HD port to Wii U). This would of shown them the huge resources needed for Wii U. And the time that's needed.

It's kinda weird because basically everyone else in the industry has already had these growing pains of delays and finding out how much more effort HD development can take, and now Nintendo is finding out the same thing years later. You'd think one of them would've read a forum post about the SD to HD transition and seen this coming a bit better.

on the other hand, you could tell from playing the games that other companies had trouble (just played ninja gaiden for the 1st time and it's not very good).  I'm betting that when nintendo releases its upcomin batch of games they're going to look and feel great.  We'll see though, i could be wrong.

Nintendo literally couldn't have been in a better position for this. They sat on an SD money printing machine while everyone else ballsed up HD development with spiralling budgets and dev times. A perfect opportunity to watch what worked and what didn't and learn from it.

The fact that they're still not out of this phase now I just find incredible.

Oh well, onwards and upwards.
