So... Nintendo fucked up again. Kamiya tweeted a while ago about how there  isn't any marketing for  The Wonderful 101. He is saying how stores aren't marketing it because they don't understand what it is.

You are controlling  a bunch of heroes and you can transform into different things. Yeah. Very hard to understand. Anyway, he is also saying how there are no previews in magazines and such. He compares it to Okami by saying how nobody understands it. Sigh...

Actually, I was in a Gamestop on Tuesday, and on their tv monitor over the checkout counter there was a decent preview/promo for The Wonderful 101 that described/showed enough of the game that I would be interrested in picking it up even if I hadn't already heard of the game.  I'm not defending Nintendo's lack of marketing.  Just mentioning that there are in fact stores that are promoting it, in my area anyway.

It seems like that is not enough.

Question for developers, I know they don't post on VGChartz but hey, whatever. So, if you had a huge war with soldiers and swords, shields, etc. (IF YOU WERE A GOOD COMMANDER!)would you send peasants out to the front line first or your strongest soldiers? I would send my strongest soldiers so my weak ones wouldn't get battered.

This same principle applies to this situation as well. Nintendo should have warned developers, actually developers should have known that Nintendo consoles don't sell without Nintendo software. They should wait and send out their strong soldiers, 3D Mario, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros. which will all be out by next year and then 3rd parties will have a better chance at success and profit because of the increased install base that the games I mentioned above will create.

The content is not produced in order to secure future support, is produced in order to build good excuses for terminating any serious future support.

Come again?

Obviously nintendo is very carefull with there marketing dollars or they must have some sort of evidence that it doesnt justify the money in this type of buisness. I would guess that positive word of mouth is the best marketing they can have but im still surprised by how little they have done overall. Maybe they are waiting for allot of these titles to be available first then start a big campagne closs to the holidays to promote everything at once.

If so then they will start having a monster marketing campaign by late 2013/early 2014.

The Wii launch was prepared by Nintendo from start it has casual wonder (Wii Sports) it has more core oriented game (Twilight Princess) the 3rd party response was one port from Game Cube with decent sales (test game) and then followed by endless stream of crap

I don't know why they don't just get the same guy(s) that did the original 'Wii would like to play' ads for the Wii to do a similar sort of thing for the Wii U. It's not fucking rocket science. Just have them knocking on the door when someone's missus is watching a shite reality telly program and have them saying 'Would U like to play..?'. Then show the guy playing whilst his missus is using the telly, have his missus noticing and then show her turning the reality bollocks off and then show them both playing asymmetrically together.

Have a series of these ads showing different couples and different games on display. Job done.

It really isn't fucking complicated lol.

Sadly, it is not common sense to Nintendo.

I REALLY DON'T WANT THE  GAME TO BOMB LIKE  EVERY PLATINUM GAME EVER MADE, but Nintendo just keeps fucking up. This game is getting  a Direct, but the people who will watch that direct alredy know the damn game.

I will suggest this idea until Nintendo fucking gets it.  Start a new series of NPC toys featuring heroes from the Wonderful 101. Market the heck out of the game and the toys and everything will be fine. But, NO! Of course they are not going to use that idea that is almost common sense given the type of game The Wonderful 101 is. Why?
Because it doesn't have  a Mario sticker slapped on it. It doesn't have a Zelda sticker slapped on it. It doesn't have a Mario Kart sticker slapped on it. They are playing it safe instead of taking minimal risks. And Nintendo wonders why their sales are struggling.

Yes, because Nintendo is going to brose VGChartz message boards, see your post, slap their foreheads and go "DUH, man this guy really gets it, let's hire him!".

It would have been a waste time to  market FF7, but  wait. It wasn't. We don't know how much of a hit a game can be.

A 7th game? Wouldn't they know already if it'd be a hit or not? I never played FF but assuming that was the transition to 3D, it still had a fanbase by that time. I got the point of your post though. I just don't have too much faith in TW101. They should still break even from it in the end.

Nintendo always markets their games as they are releasing. I would not expect anyhing tilll launch week.

I've seen this said twice in this thread and not a single person addressed it.  I will take this one as the only truth in the thread until someone tries to actually debunk it because I'm tired of reading actual likely arguments and no one even tries.

I actually noticed Luigi Mansion DM commercials about a month before the game was released. I also saw Pokemon GTI commercials about a week before its release date. I live in the U.S though and TW101 doesn't release until September here so...I also wouldn't expect any marketing at this time.  Why is this being discussed again?
