Why are people complaining so much about stupid region lock? I've never cared if it was implemented or not. Are you guys so stupid!? Nintendo has always been this way, why is it such a surprise to you all now?!

Depends, does a new game every month for which there is no extra charge not represent value for money at $60 per year? $5 per game, some of which will still be retailing for over $20 seems pretty worth it, even considering it's effectively only a game rental service. If I rent a game for a week from the local video store it costs me $5.

That seems like silly logic, why shouldn't we expect more from Nintendo simply because they haven't done it in the past?

Because their practices haven't failed them. Nintendo fans always think they know what is best for NIntendo and the truth is, they don't. I used to think the same way but they won't listen to us. The more they don't listen to us, the more they grow. Nintendo has their reasons. They aren't doing it to get on our nerves. I just can't believe you guys are making a fuss over a 25+ year old policy that they held. They aren't changing, why can't we accept that?
Nobody, who has a Wii U game in mind, is going to not buy a Wii U because it is region locked. It just doesn't add up. Wii has region lock, beat out all their competition. 3DS has region lock, beating Vita to a pulp, Wii U might not be that juggernaut that the Wii was but it will find its audience. And anybody who wants it for what it is will buy it.
Region locking brings no benefits at all to users in the best case, it damages their interests in the worst case. Its only benefits are for vendors that can't cope with a globalized market and for censors.
Curiously, despite it being far more harmful in mobile devices, it looks like it doesn't affect 3DS sales. Or does it? In slow seasons DS, that hasn't it (DSi allows it, but it's quite rarely implemented, almost only on digital download games, to avoid incompatibility with the DS user base), used to sell a lot more.

If they were perfect about localizing things on their platform, sure. But obviously they aren't so I find it perfectly reasonable to want them to change a policy that every other console manufacturer has abandoned. 25 years ago things were a lot different, if they didn't change at all in that time frame they'd be in some real trouble.
I think you're right, there will be no noteable sales effect, but since when has that been a prerequisite for me to want them to change something? It makes it less likely that they'll actually change it, but it doesn't make the policy any less shitty.
Also according to the post above this isn't some long held belief of Nintendo's that region locking is great, they've taken it out of platforms before. So obviously they can make the change, and have made it before, so why shouldn't I complain that they reverted back?

Because Nintendo is stubborn and they aren't going to listen to us. So, stop wasting your breath. I used to be like that but it just didn't work out. They do what they want to do and that is final. They are Japanese and not American so decisions aren't flexed for our leisure.
