Forums - Nintendo - Seem like the Wii U is the new Xbox One :(

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/07/03/nintendos-president-discusses-region-locking

On IGN, this is one of the top article on the site. Fan are saying that Nintendo don't care for there consumers. I know region free is nice to have but, is it that needed. I don't know, just hope this get sorted out soon, Nintendo already seen as a joke to the media and Iwata approval dump down to 77%. Best luck Nintendo, hope the Wii U succeed :(

Region locking affects a very few minority (that includes the "hardcore" gamers). This doesn't affect the hardware sales or software sales in any significant way.

If the Wii U wasn't region locked the system would have sold like 100 units more and that's about it.

Nintendo and PC gamer

I don't understand why people make such a fuss over region locking.

1. Nintendo isn't the only one to do this.
2. Things have improved over the years in terms of getting games to each of the regions.
3. *Input another thing that proves Region Locking really isn't all that evil here.*

Also, the Wii was region locked and people sooner or later got over/lived with it and then moved on to complaining about how "casual" the system was. So you just wait, there will be more to complain about soon!

So, is Nintendo doomed?

Its not that they dont care, i think they'll just have to deal with a bunch of legal issues if they dont region lock.

and what do you mean by the new Xbox one? the thing isnt even out yet.

WiiU is not Nintendo though.

I don't consider it the xbox one, Nintendo fans does because they feel Nintendo don't stop caring about the gamers.

Please dont clump all Nintendo fans together. I don't think that just because of a silly problem with region locking.

Nintendo are the only ones now. Sony and MS don't have it any more.

Nintendo are also still bad at getting Japanese games to the US, and in any case the original words/sounds are often better (also consider completely inaccurate translation of AWDS by NA, faithful one by EU). By not doing it, you encourage piracy and hacks so legit customers can get the games they wanted and bought running.

Locking on the e-Shop makes no sense at all.

Iwata's explanation here is one of the least convincing things I've ever read. Exactly what limitations is Nintendo under that MS and Sony can ignore?
