Forums - Gaming - Prediction: XBox 1 will win the generation (consoles)

Now that they fixed some of their early mistakes, it should not be too hard. But they still need to get japan. Without Japan, they will have a hard time.

I agree. Japan is the 3rd biggest market and Microsoft should attempt to break thru.

At the same time, I don't see that happening. They need non-shooters to get support in Japan.

As long as Xbox has strong multiplayer titles, it will sell well in the US and UK regions.

Are we in 2001? Because the Xbox 1 managed to(barely) outsell the Gamecube only... Oh, you're talking about the Xbox One. Right. I don't know, but making those predictions generally isn't a good thing: the consoles predicted to sell the most on the internet are actually the ones that sell the worst.

If the box had something that the more casual users wanted and at a sensible price... then maybe. At $500 with what its currently got... don't think so.

You could call the Wii-u the perfect machine for casuals... a second screen, nintendo of the amazingly successful wii... could not do it at their price, what makes you think the Xbox at $500 is going to do it?

So what? Really want to start arguing which machine is the best for the price? I don't think this will be very constructive.
Microsoft has a plan and are actively targeting these markets... The PS4 is not; like it or not; the Xbox One has been designed to be that all in one box. The fact that you think the PS4 is enough for that will not change what Microsoft is doing and what the perception will be when they start their marketing machine for real.

So no, I do not think a WiiU or a PS4 can be compared to the Xbox One in term of offering and I'm not talking about the price... But if the price is the only thing to consider or if you just do not find any additional values in Microsoft's next console; then our opinions are just different :)

Wow calm down... you made a statement about it being aimed at the casual market just like the wii... I dont agree. That's my opinion... don't comment in a forum topic if you don't want people to respond ;)

The best machine for the price, well that's all a matter of opinion, and fine to argue about, but i didnt specify a casual like market now did i. :)

Secondly what is it exactly that the PS4 cant do that the Xbox can (if you say live TV or cloud well then this whole conversation is pointless). People talk about the XboxOne being this amazing device that will suddenly appear to be a much better proposition than other consoles, but no one can actually say what this offering is that is above and beyond what we already have/got.The PS4 has all the media gubbings it needs, Gaikai and Sony pictures/music adds another level if they really needed it.

The price is absolutely important on so many levels. If you don't agree, then nothing i can do about that. Yes of course making something look worth the price is very important... but there is nothing shown yet that makes the XboxOne anything more special than the Wii-u or the PS4.

Why "calm down" ? My post was very nice and indeed very calm...
Don't assume people are upset or anything else just because they are replying to you lol I even added a ":)"...

Seriously ?

1 .First of all, it is not because you can do all of this with other devices that nobody is interested into having an all-in-one device, and this is what Microsoft is envisioning... Your statement (bold) is just rootless and this is the reflect of your own opinion; stop generalizing...

2. As far as the pre-orders; the people pre-order are mainly GAMERS, and guess what; this is not the market I was describing... The Xbox One is going to attract more people in the long term. Also pre-orders were "obviously" biased with that DRM failure from Microsoft, nothing to do again with what I'm talking about.

3. And Kinect on the 360? really, This is the best you can do? Guess what you can play games on a PS3 or an Xbox 360; why bother to upgrade then?...

4. Now stop acting like all Xbox fans or people believing in Microsoft's vision are all wrong. The truth is that you have no clue either and other than this DRM fiasco we yet have to see what the future has in store :)

1. The consumers have spoken. And xb1 forces too many different products into one package that people don't need. Like, it would be if I got a phone that was extra expensive because it was also a military gps device. I don't give a fuck about that. KEY WORDS incoming: "google.maps.is.good.enough.for.me". Learn the bolded underlined italicized, because that is how the casual makes purchases.

2. No, the market you were describing is the casual market, and I told you that casuals don't care about all-in-one products for 500$. Look at ps3! Look how it fared against the wii! Look how much loss Sony had to take to stay competitive! And Sony was the cheapest BluRay player on the market! What does xbox have that is cheapest on the market? Literally nothing. It is the most expensive everything on the market. FACT.

OK so the casuals haven't shown up yet. Fair enough. But wait, the current USA pre-orders show ps4 in the lead. Yet, xbox360 has more installed in USA than PS3. Wait, how can that be that the brand with more audience in the US have less sales? How can it possibly be that the GAMERS (according to you, the only people who have pre-ordered) have chosen ps4? Man, and the casuals aren't even helping a little bit, because if we imagine that even a third of the purchasers of xb1 are casuals, that is going to pose an exceptionally dire outlook for GAMERS interested in an xbox. Preorders WERE biased from DRM. Preorders were like 11-2 in favor of ps4. Now afterwards, weekly preorders are more like 5-3. Preorders are STILL weighted toward ps4.

3. Slow your roll. People upgrade to a ps4 because they want the better graphics and games. They are the core and hardcore market. It is a normal progression for that market to continue upgrading. The core and hardcore are blatantly not interested in Kinect. They will be forced to upgrade. The people who are Really interested in kinect (the casuals) already have it, and new kinect does not introduce anything meaningfuly new that can convince casuals to spend 500$+ to upgrade. You talk about the wii market...the wii market didn't even see fit to upgrade to wiiU. How you gunna argue that casuals will spend nearly double the amount of money to upgrade kinect. Ridiculous.

4. I do. I do have a clue. Clues all around. Getting ragged on by virtually every major outlet. Edge. Financial Times. Time. Fox. Gamestop. Gamepots, Gamespot, Gametops, GamePTOS...the list goes on. Casuals don't even know it can play used now! The worst thing to do is confuse the casuals. Why? Because they don't pay enough attention!
More clues: Preorders are getting slaughtered by the ps4.
Clue: PS4 has INCREASED it's projections and shipment by 20%. It's prediction is already way above xb1. It's like 13m vs 8m.
Clue: XB1 FUNCTIONS WON'T EVEN WORK IN EUROPE. So much for that all-in-one product being so useful to everyone. Just another example of people seeing something unnecessary. When you over-generalize, you end up just giving people reasons NOT to buy.
Clue: XB1 isn't even releasing in rest of world until late 2014, and many countries even longer!
Clue: Only 21 countries will actually work with xb1, and your account is IP TIED, meaning importing won't even work!
Clue: XB1 is over 100$ more expensive than ps4 considering online purchase as well.
Clue: It is DANGEROUSLY close to the e3 2006 599 US DORRAS fiasco. It's 560$ plus tax. That's not even with a game.
Clue: It's biggest games are all on PC.
Clue: It competes with much cheaper products, including the WiiU which has its own tv functions, aptly named TVii.
Clue: XBOX currently has no CEO
Clue: It's a camera in a USA political environment where SPYING is the current year's hellfire!
Clue: Germany has already declared kinect a surveillance device
Clue: Legislation is currently being written that would make ANY camera device that sends information to a company require several conceits including:
-a message legible from a distance, by the product, saying in big letters "You are being watched"
-a secondary indentical product that doesn't use the camera at all
-an agreement to let a user completely opt out of surveillance

Your face when this is MS' current entire strategy.
It's over man.

What MS needs to do is compeltely halt production, put the console back in the oven for another year, work out a new strategy, and do it correctly. Sorry for so much negativity, but there you have it. This console is a train wreck, and you will see soon enough.

Seriously dude... You need to take a break from the internet... Do not textwall post like this just because you want to hammer you point....

I got it, I disagree with it but I got it. And stop posting "clues" like people are too dumb to understand what you are saying just because they do not agree with your oppinion...

All of the things you posted are irrelevant to my point of Microsoft having a vision (not the most easier one to fight for, but still a vision) and the fact that I (or other "Xbox fans" like you call them) believe it may work in a long term.

Be respectfull please :)

And if you reply again, just keep in mind that we understand your point (understand != agreeing with it)...

Why do people keep saying this?

The Xbox from 2001 was simply called "Xbox" this system is called "Xbox 1"

no dude those are facts.
I've been really easy on xb1. I don't even call it the derogatory xbone, but this is the truth. xb1 needs to be shelved and completely redone. right now they are caught in a sunk costs fallacy. they will push this out even though their big vision of digital is completely down the drain and cancelled.
tv being a draw? other products already do it! apple, samsung, google.
to borrow a quote from a certain someone, buckle your seatbelts..its gunna be a BUMPY RIDE.

No these are not facts. These are only hopes or speculations.

PC is ALREADY doing everything the PS4/Xbox One does in term of gaming, so if we follow your  reasoning people should not be interrested by the next gen console at all...

Just stop bashing other's opinion with your so called "facts"; they are not.

Look just because you can't say either way what will happen, doesn't mean evidence doesn't exist to support a future conclusion.

The PC argument is grabbing at straws. PC has been doing more and better than what consoles do since the beginning of everything. Why would it change now? You're just throwing that out there and saying "that's your logic".

PCs are much more expensive (for the average consumer) and tend to get all sorts of other problems like viruses, etc. Consoles are not only optimized to play games, but their hardware actually significantly outperforms the same hardware in a pc. There are myriad reasons why that example doesn't work. And this has been the main reasoning why consoles have thrived, because they're cheap, and easy. They take out the complication of having too much, and simplify, which increases performance and dramatically lowers price by comparison.

Specialization is what has helped consoles thrive.

You're taking my argument of people buying out of convenience and specialization, and saying that I'm logically saying that nobody would buy consoles because of PCs. It's like the opposite of my point.

TV isn't a draw (to the casual audience) because the other products are cheaper and more closely align (by a wide margin) with what a casual interested in tv controls wants.

XB1 doesn't do the tv control significantly better than the competition, and where it counts (price) it's severely outclassed... it's not cheaper, and it's not easier. There are specialized products that do what xb1 does in terms of tv control for a lot cheaper, and a lot easier, and a lot smaller.

Oh, and don't forget that xb1 STILL needs another box in order to even USE the tv function...and it's a Microsoft peripheral. I mean, COME ON. So it's not just 500, but probably another 100, on top of live. If those numbers aren't looming catastrophically above you like a towering building beginning to lean over, I don't know what else to say to you. It's sheer madnees what they're expecting people to pay for.

These aren't opinions imagine. These are facts.

I'm trying to be rational but given the facts that we know up to today, I don't see how the X1 will outsell the PS4, for a variety of reasons.

1. If the XBox brand is so strong, how is it that despite having a 1 year head start coupled with Sony completely screwing up the PS3 launch, the PS3 has now surpassed the 360 in global hardware sales?

2. Price matters. Sony learned it the hard way with the PS3. $100 goes a long way for the general casual audience.

3. How will MS support the X1 come year 6 and beyond? The 360 started out strong with tons of great exclusives. It looks like it will be the same with X1. However, the last couple of years things have slowed considerably in terms of AAA exclusives. Meanwhile, Sony is still showing very strong support for the PS3 in 2013 with exclusives like TLOU, Ni no Kuni, Beyond: Two Souls, and GT6. If you want to sell a lot of consoles, having a long life cycle is key. Sony has shown that they are committed to a 10-year life cycle with their consoles. MS doesn't seem to share that same vision.

4. E3 fallout and MS's flip flop. This doesn't affect the hardcore supporters, but it does with the console-agnostic gamers. MS came out in May during their Reveal to announce to the world their grand vision of the future of gaming and the bold direction they're taking with the X1. Whether you agreed with it or not, they at least had a vision. Couple months later after some bad PR and internet firestorms, they do a complete 180 and throw their grand plans out the window. So what exactly is their vision now? And how confident are you in their leadership in guiding the direction of this new console? Would you be completely shocked if they flip-flop on something else later on? I think for a lot of gamers who were on the fence before, they may take a wait-and-see approach before deciding to invest in an X1.

5. Kinect and privacy issues. This is probably minor, but it will impact a segment of gamers who do care about these types of things. I can see some parents being wary about this because of things they read or hear that may or may not be true. For some of them they may choose to just take the conservative route and get their kids a WiiU or PS4 (which are both cheaper) instead and not have to deal with this issue at all, even it turns out to be a non-issue.

I think ps3 had outsell all Nintendo home console expect Wii.It is imposible that wii u outsell ps4 due to 3rd party.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
