In your opinion the illusion of advantages of XBL gold is over (no illusion honestly). 300,000 servers have been opened for dedicated server support, improved chat clarity, and ease of use are the advantages of XBL. Just because PS4 finally offers cross chat gaming doesn't mean it will have dedicated server support for every game and party chat. We haven't seen the new PSN in action yet to make a judgement. Even syncing trophies takes up to 10 minutes on a regular basis. Sony has a long ways to go to prove to people that their online experience will be as good as Xbox's and since you have to pay for it now it has to be or it will be a laughing stock.

The online experience on the PS3 may not be as smooth as on the 360, but it's also not a bad experience either.
While both companies are improving the experience for their respective next gen consoles, it's come to a point where both offer good, honest online experiences. But they will get nitpicked not really because the differences are game breaking or game changer, but because of the misguided allegiences of the users.

The ps3 has been making profit since 2010. They've already broke even. But the ps4 doesn't have the luxury of selling at a loss; at least not yet.

Dude the Xbox 360 never had dedicated servers there were master servers on the 360 especially in COD games. if there were dedicated servers it was provided by third party. Stop talking about the PS3 generation in reference to the PS4. Sony showed off a quicker UI with streaming with faster downloading and uploading. Cross chat is there and much, much more. Both consoles will be very quick and very user friendly. Enjoy your Xbox One but accept the reality that its down to price because ultimately the majority of gamers wont care.

Perhaps because one company makes billions in profit every quarter where as the other is selling assets and cost cutting to try and scrape profitability.  Microsoft will always have the ability to loss lead on hardware by a huge margin if they ever wanted to.

MS will always have the ability to losslead, but compared to Sony losses to make their platforms succeed there is a clear distinction. The PS4 will make small profit in the beginning and it will grow over time. They will be able to cut price fairly soon.

Sony's Playstation division has always turned a profit when all was said and done. Yeah PS3 was an expensive endeavor for them, but at the end of the day, they broke even and turned a profit. The PS4 doesn't even compare to the PS3 when it comes to R&D and manufacturing costs. And now that online gaming is behind a pay wall, I can't see the PS4 struggling to start turning a profit early on during the gen.

The PS3 is nowhere near to breaking even but that's not really relevant to the next generation anyway.  The point is that Microsoft are a very healthy company, Sony are not, hence the massive restructuring going on which may yet not be enough to stave off further changes further down the line.  This isn't about whether the PS4 can make money, it's about whether the parent company can afford to cut their profit and it's clear one can while the other can't.  If Microsoft want to make this a price war Sony are in trouble.  I'm not saying I think Microsoft will make any cuts necessarily but they certainly have the option to be far more agressive if they need/choose to, it's really not even debatable imo.

The PS3 hatred runs deep. The PS3 broke even in 2010 and its been profitting for three years now. Look it up.

As much as gamers hate him, Pachter is quoted because when it counts he makes make very good point as a businessman (not a gamer). He also predicted MS will have to drop DRM if they want to get the fans back on Gametrailers and was proven correct. He tends to back up MS business decisions because of course hes an American businessman and he tends to agree with many of their moves with the 360, but thats from an American business perspective so I cannot just lash out and say idiot to him. He's obviously not one. I think gamers go haywire with him just because the man isn't perfect.

Thos doesnt roll. Sony doesnt have money to buyout anyone. Especially not more than microsoft does.

Edge is an european magazine and they are mirroring the general consensus in europe.
