And you think all of these casual gamers are going to hop aboard the Sony train with their friends? Sony is going need to do a lot of convincing to get them to buy into PS4's online service and COD. Xbox is marketed as the place to play COD. Killzone and Infamous aren't going to sway anyone into buying a PS4. Right now Sony has the price advantage but both consoles will sell pretty badly until they both hit that $299 price point. If both consoles hit that price point at the same time (which I believe they will) then things won't change much in the US. Xbox One will outsell PS4 in the US.

Why do you think that Sony won't be able to always price their console lower than Microsoft's?

If The XBO gets a price cut, the PS4 can get a price cut just the same.

Perhaps because one company makes billions in profit every quarter where as the other is selling assets and cost cutting to try and scrape profitability.  Microsoft will always have the ability to loss lead on hardware by a huge margin if they ever wanted to.

MS will always have the ability to losslead, but compared to Sony losses to make their platforms succeed there is a clear distinction. The PS4 will make small profit in the beginning and it will grow over time. They will be able to cut price fairly soon.

Sony's Playstation division has always turned a profit when all was said and done. Yeah PS3 was an expensive endeavor for them, but at the end of the day, they broke even and turned a profit. The PS4 doesn't even compare to the PS3 when it comes to R&D and manufacturing costs. And now that online gaming is behind a pay wall, I can't see the PS4 struggling to start turning a profit early on during the gen.

If, to the average gamer, PS4 offers the same as XB Live just $100 cheaper, what do you think the average gamer and his mates cares about?

If Xbox is the place to play COD then where did the 8 million copies of Blops 2 for PS3 come from? COD is the same game on any console, MS money hatting the 'extra' content or not.

Yes.. but you know... It takes 2 seconds less to get into a game on Live.

I could understand if this was the PS3 and you were saying this and they were bleeding as badly as they were but they've slowed that bleeding and returned the PS3 to profitability. At least give them that. Pachter has already stated that the PS4 will start off at a small profit, so they are already well ahead of the PS3 in that respect.

Read that then get back to me...sony has a big hole to dig themselves out of...regardless of how successful it is...once again there will be less then 5% market share gap between the PS4 and xbox one with the xbox being more profitable due to xbox live

It does? What the hell have I been doing with my cheap ass PS3 and free online gaming, I'm off to buy me a 360 roite naw and download all the DLC as well, even all the camos.

Where have you been all these years? Live is so much better than PSN for online gaming, it's not even in the same ballpark!

I mean, the games look like holographic porn on a 23.1 surround sound system on Live, compared to PSN's 5 fps black and white mute movies.

This whole anti-MS thing is becoming more and more laughable.

If you like games, buy games. It is that simple. It is meant to be about having fun, being entertained. All this politics and dick waving does nothing to deter me from buying either console. If Edge don't want to get an X1 then cool, but the only people losing out will be them. But we all know they will get one anyway.

lol isn't it that game from Rare? Looks awful.

Its Kinect Sports 3 mate. Kinect Sports sells to them same dmographic as Knack. Look at its sales on 360.

Microsoft finally realised those gamers will rather buy waggle games for yourbody, and the rest hardcore titles. Which i why theis less casual games and way more hardcore games.

Knack will get murdered i sales by  Kinect Rivals.

Because we KNOW that sales = quality of the title.

Definitely. Seeing how much my friend loves his Blu Ray player with his new 50 inch TV, seems well worth it to me he's actually almost replaced his favorite titles from his old DVD collection. He was so happy with it he finally broke down and bought a PS3 and gave the other Blu Ray to his wife.  Sony is still profiting off of the PS3 and will continue to. The majority of gamers have no brand loyalty and I have been saying this for years. Its an ongoing cycle and these guys act like MS just magically got 70 million gamers because of Xbox Live Gold alone. Nintendo had the upper hand on Sega because of third parties, Sony MS split their former marketshare. We'll see how they will react this gen. Always intelligence coming from you.

@S.T.A.G.E.
In your opinion the illusion of advantages of XBL gold is over (no illusion honestly). 300,000 servers have been opened for dedicated server support, improved chat clarity, and ease of use are the advantages of XBL. Just because PS4 finally offers cross chat gaming doesn't mean it will have dedicated server support for every game and party chat. We haven't seen the new PSN in action yet to make a judgement. Even syncing trophies takes up to 10 minutes on a regular basis. Sony has a long ways to go to prove to people that their online experience will be as good as Xbox's and since you have to pay for it now it has to be or it will be a laughing stock.

Thats not news to me. We all know Sony is hurting, but Kaz is going to turn Sony around like he did with the PS3. Again, even Michael Pachter has said the PS4 will launch at a small profit in the beginning and then it will grow.

The PS3 is nowhere near to breaking even but that's not really relevant to the next generation anyway.  The point is that Microsoft are a very healthy company, Sony are not, hence the massive restructuring going on which may yet not be enough to stave off further changes further down the line.  This isn't about whether the PS4 can make money, it's about whether the parent company can afford to cut their profit and it's clear one can while the other can't.  If Microsoft want to make this a price war Sony are in trouble.  I'm not saying I think Microsoft will make any cuts necessarily but they certainly have the option to be far more agressive if they need/choose to, it's really not even debatable imo.
