They dropped from a distant first to last place for almost the entire generation. It is not even really significant that they managed to tie it up with the second place guy when the generation is practically over.

This is such a great statement, I just wanted it highlighted. In case others don't get what it is you are saying. I may be pressumptuous to give examples, but here goes any way.

Wii was a war on the GI as was the original NES. The Wii U seems like an appeasement from Nintendo to the GI 'please like me' and that is unfortunate.

Anyhow, I think the controller is part of the reason Nintendo is held back from the position of Generation Leader. Not that it's bad (because I kind of like it), it's just odd and the fact that it adds so much to the price of the Wii U isn't helping. 

Thats Maelstrom talking. It isnt entirely true. In the case of WiiU, its a matter of the GI not wanting Nintendo to have too much marketshare. The GI wants an environment where everything is more competitive among platform holders, which is in their best interest for obvious reasons.

I can assure you that EA and most other 3rd parties will be all over the WiiU as soon as MS and Sony have released their respective consoles. Afterall, with Nintendo dominant - who's going to moneyhat the GI for hundreds of millions of dollars?

No. What they really want is to force Nintendo into the position MS and Sony find themselves in. They want Nintendo to bend over, just as MS and Sony is bending over. That's really all there is to it.

Nintendo has never succeeded on the back of 3rd parties and never will. This talk about Nintendo versus the game industry is irrelevant.

Nintendo has always won on account of its games and price, and that will never ever change. With the U, they are following the handheld strategy, and they will win again.

Let me give you a hint:

The GI "loves" whomever platform holder that gives them the most $ during a transition period. Nintendo gives them peanuts compared to Sony and Microsoft. Thats why they "hate" Nintendo. But in 2012 Nintendo had lots of $. The GI was very, very positive about the WiiU as it expected Nintendo to "share" its wealth. Nintendo did'nt. The GI was infuriated and penalties had to be issued. Result? january to july 2013.
