Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Fed Up With Inaccurate Reports In The Media

It seems Nintendo will never be the darling of the gaming journalists but to be honest they could do more to garner themselves some more support with the mainstream media.

I really hope they are planning a big marketing push towards the end of this year for the WiiU because thus far it's been abysmal. If you don't have anything to say about your product people will either ignore it or just make shit up.

I agree with him about the gaming media; it's enthusiast press and that's putting it nicely.

It's not only Nintendo that suffers though. All companies involved in hardware, software, development, publishing etc. get crap spewed about them because it generates hits and makes them money. Few seem to check their sources and the general level of professionalism doesn't seem particularly high. Nintendo probably have a bigger target painted around them because of their casual friendly image, but it does happen to everyone in the business.

However, they do need to get some media outlets on-side. If they rely too heavily on Nintendo Direct it'll be difficult to get the message out beyond their core fans.

Yeah it is annoying. Nintendo is as relevant as it always was thanks to it's first party games

Ruh roh, tin foil hats and the Illuminati. Down with poor Nintendo!

As with any Japanese company, most of the problems come from translation. We've seen it with all of them, not just Nintendo. That, and the massive game of Chinese Whispers that is the gaming news industry. I remember when Jim Sterling at Destructoid ranted about the Vita because it was going to have two viewable touch-screens and was a complete rip-off of the DS, because he'd read it on an obscure blog post that had itself gotten things wrong. Sterling never even checked the source and thus looked like a moron while starting up a new rumor and getting people riled for nothing. Maybe there is a conspiracy against Sony, too?

It's just Nintendo's turn right now. Lord knows Sony got their fair share from 2006-2008. Looks like Microsoft may be in for some of it next gen.

"Videogame journalim" is still a lot immature and most people who work on or with it doesn´t seem to make any effort to change this.
Basically, it is full of fanboy talk (with a very few exceptions), while for the good of the industry it should be a lot more impartial.
This really piss me off. When looking for videogame news I want just the relevant info and nothing more, but those so-called "journalists" always put their bias on what they publish.

I'm sick of it too. I have really become sick of it. Everyday I check news about Nintendo and it is always bad. It is never good. It seems that everybody has it out for Nintendo. I mean everybody.

"Nintendo Direct is most-watched not on PC, but eShop."

Whoa... What... Really?

Agreed with Iwata. The media has an agenda with most of what it does. It must suck to be the leader of a company that everyone is wishing would go up in flames.

Considering the E3 Nintendo Direct had around ~75k PC viewers, you have to imagine more people are watching from other places.

Well, it is true the media is very opinated towards nintendo.

Nintendo direct was a great move though. I prefer to have the information delivered to me first hand, than it going through the skewed media gatekeeping we see these days.

The media is opinated indeed. You only need to take a look. The media want to sink Nintendo, just like some large publishers who don't openly admit it but they are there. Everyone loves Nintendo games, but they dislike the hardware.

That's rather presumptuous.  I know plenty of game media that write about liking Nintendo hardware.  Not all media want them out of the hardware business.  It's just the most obnoxious, vocal ones are the ones we hear most about.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

The most obnoxious, vocal ones are the most influent, sadly.
