I may have fucked up with the cooling paste. For some reason it's applied everywhere except the middle of the die. But I'm pretty sure I applied it correctly. Maybe it just happened when I removed the cooler. Anyway, gonna apply new paste and see if that helps.

I was going to ask you if you have a heat wave over there as we're having one right now, making your PC hotter than it should. It's obviously not that, but it could be heat related.

I hope the new thermal paste solves it, because that would be a cheap solution to your problems.

The problems did start when it got warmer and this week we have the hottest week yet so it really could have something to do with heat. I don't have much hope applying new paste will solve anything. That thing broke when it wasn't under any load at all and it didn't work after it cooled down. I just hope the mainboard isn't shot.

Well, it won't take long for use to see how real is that claim.

Samsung seems to have managed it, for smartphone chips, and they share their tech with Glo-Fo.

It does seem likely Samsung will manage to release pseudo 7 nm mobile chips on 2018, and it would make sense for bigger chips from AMD to come on the same node by 2019, but wasn't GloFo developing their own pseudo 7 nm stuff, based off IBM's design, or something like that?

@Pemalite: It's the problem of having a platform that has to support chips from two architectures that differ in a lot of things, like dual or quad memory support.

Still, it's the same as with every new platform, it also happened with Ryzen and will happen again with ThreadRipper. They only need time to iron all the issues.

It's actually down to the voltage regulators. Kaby Lake-X and Sky Lake-X are different in that aspect.
The motherboards aren't recognizing the different regulators and are popping chips.

Intel has had platforms that support multiple chip architectures anyway and it was always fine. They just wen't full retard this time around.

You just expect more out of Intel, this is their premium platform.

Wait. Did paste get into the CPU socket?

Didn't look like it. Pins looked clean. Could've been a lot of things. Might've been not enough paste or the distribution or maybe the cooler wasn't sitting properly and a lot of it evaporated. BTW kudos to Noctua, the cooler removal went like a breeze. They really got it figured out.

I'll see this evening when I get new paste. Sadly my just in case replacement CPU won't be here before tomorrow.

I don't know. IBM, GloFo and Samsung have worked together for years to develop new nodes, and GloFo and Samsung partnered to share technology a couple of years ago or so, so I don't see why GloFo would do their own thing when they can use what they already have.

Unless Samsung's 7nm process isn't good enough for high power chips, like what happened with the 20nm node that was only used for smartphone SoCs.

I just bought the most expensive thermal paste I could find. Let's see if that can repair a broken CPU later.

Denuvo anti-tamper tech has been removed from HITMAN
http://www.dsogaming.com/news/denuvo-anti-tamper-tech-has-been-removed-from-hitman/
IO Interactive has rolled out a new patch for HITMAN that has removed its Denuvo anti-tamper tech. We don’t know whether this removal was done on purpose or by accident. After all, we’ve seen in the past other developers rolling out patches for their games without the Denuvo anti-tamper tech, only to re-implement it later via another patch.

>>I hope it's not an accident, but another gesture of change after becoming independent again.

Pitch and roll with this new Ace Combat 7 campaign footage

"I'm curious to know, does the colour of the sky matter to you?" asked Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown's E3 trailer. As you might expect, I like it best when it's blue because when it's green it normally means I'm hurtling towards the ground at a rate of knots before—

The news, part two:

Only headshots count in Killing Floor 2 this week
http://www.pcgamer.com/only-headshots-count-in-killing-floor-2-this-week/
In "Cranium Cracker," players can only put down zeds with headshots, a test of marksmanship, especially for KF2's guns and character perks that don't emphasize single-shot accuracy. Beat Cranium Cracker, and you'll earn the "Headshot Weekly" skin for the Sharpshooter's SPX 464 Centerfire rifle, appropriately. If you're matchmaking, select the "Weekly" mode rather than the usual "Survival" to be queued into Cranium Cracker.

Electronic Arts hopes Anthem will become a 'ten-year journey'
http://www.pcgamer.com/electronic-arts-hopes-anthem-will-become-a-ten-year-journey/
The reveal of BioWare's "loot shooter" Anthem at E3 left us with mixed feelings, but one thing about it that really shines through is its obvious similarity to Destiny. As Tyler put it bluntly leading into that discussion, "Is this Destiny 2 but with a BioWare story?" Hopefully BioWare is doing all it can to differentiate its game, but EA's Patrick Soderlund invoked another parallel of sorts when he told Major Nelson at E3 last week that the release of the game will hopefully mark the start of a "ten-year journey."
