SPECTER KNIGHT TO STAR IN SHOVEL KNIGHT'S THIRD (FREE) CAMPAIGN

http://www.pcgamer.com/specter-knight-to-star-in-shovel-knights-third-free-campaign/

Making good on its Kickstarter stretch goals, Shovel Knight's third campaign is on its way. This one will star Specter Knight, a nightmarish, scythe-wielding boss from the original game.

CRITERION'S EXTREME SPORTS RACING GAME IS DEAD

http://www.pcgamer.com/criterions-extreme-sports-racing-game-is-dead/

Announced at E3 2014, Criterion's unnamed extreme racing game was missing from E3 2015, so we were expecting a wealth of details at this year's show. An open-world racer from the Burnout devs featuring choppers, boats, ATVs, wingsuits and more sounds fantastic.

Instead, Eurogamer has discovered that the project quietly died.

BATTLEFIELD 4'S SECOND ASSAULT DLC FREE FOR THE NEXT WEEK

http://www.pcgamer.com/battlefield-4s-second-assault-dlc-free-for-the-next-week/

As a sort of lead-in to the launch of Battlefield 1, EA has announced that it will be making select BF4/Hardline expansion packs free for a limited time. The first of these is Second Assault for Battlefield 4, which contains four maps from Battlefield 3, maps that have been "updated with the power of the Frostbite 3 engine". Here it is on Origin, but if you're into procrastination, be aware that it's only free until June 28. After that it'll be yours to keep, however.

WATCH DOGS 2 WON'T FEATURE UBISOFT TOWERS

http://www.pcgamer.com/watch-dogs-2-wont-feature-ubisoft-towers/

Ubisoft's games are often derided for their homogeneity, but every few years one will change up the formula a wee bit, shaking you out of your Ubi-slumber with just enough energy to try another one of their massive open world games. I'm speaking personally of course, and personally I'm very glad that Watch Dogs 2 won't feature now-traditional Ubi-towers that reveal missions and other opportunities on the map. That's confirmed in this Eurogamer article, which reveals that you'll now unlock things by getting more and more followers for your hacking group DedSec.

RUNESCAPE CREATORS RETURN FOR 15TH ANNIVERSARY QUEST

http://www.pcgamer.com/runescape-creators-return-for-15th-anniversary-quest/

Well this is lovely. Andrew, Ian and Paul Gower, the original creators of long-running MMO Runescape, have returned for One Last Job. Or rather, One Last Quest, released to coincide with the game's 15th anniversary. The Gower Quest, co-designed by the brothers themselves, features plenty of jokes and plenty of cabbages, while the trio cameo in the quest as a group of mages. It's free to play now, in the free to play MMO, and the rewards include a pet cabbage and a 'cabbagemancer' outfit and staff.

AMD may have run into issues with its Zen integrated chipset.

AMD "Zen" Processor Integrated Chipset Has USB 3.1 Issues, Could Escalate Costs

http://www.techpowerup.com/223583/amd-zen-processor-integrated-chipset-has-usb-3-1-issues-could-escalate-costs

With its next-generation processors and APUs based on the "Zen" micro-architecture, AMD is integrating the chipset into the processor/APU die, making motherboards entirely chipset-free. This on-die chipset, however, is rumored to be facing issues with its integrated USB 3.1 controllers, according to industry sources. AMD sourced the design for the integrated USB 3.1 controllers from ASMedia. The company has a tendency of sourcing integrated controller IP from third-party manufacturers (eg: its SATA controllers and port-multipliers in the past have been sourced from Silicon Image).

Motherboard manufacturers are noticing significant drops in USB 3.1 bandwidths with increase in circuit distances (think wiring running from the AM4 socket to USB 3.1 front-panel headers on the bottom-right corner of a motherboard). Board designers are reportedly having to use additional retimer and redriver chips to get acceptable bandwidths over such ports, and in some cases even entire USB 3.1 controllers, eating into the platform's PCIe budget and escalating costs.

AMD stated that the "Zen" processor platform is on-track, and the company will not comment on "customer specific board-level solutions." ASMedia played down the reports as industry rumors, and stated that its solutions passed the necessary certifications. The DigiTimes report adds that "AMD's Zen processors are seeing stable development and have a satisfactory yield rate, and about to enter the engineering sample stage in the near future."

OVERWATCH PTR GOES LIVE IN THE WEST, COMPETITIVE MODE TESTING HAS BEGUN

http://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-ptr-goes-live-in-the-west-competitive-mode-testing-has-begun/

Last week, Jeff Kaplan said Blizzard was thinking about launching a public test realm for Overwatch. This week—hey, here it is!

It's actually a public test region, not realm, and it's been running in South Korea for a little while already (that's where these Golden Gun images came from). But now it's live in the West as well, and the currently-in-development patch is live on it and waiting for some love. To take part, restart Battle.net, go to the Overwatch tab, select “PTR: Overwatch” from the Region/Account drop-down menu, and click on install. When all is done and updated, click “Play,” and your PTR adventures will begin!

EUROPA UNIVERSALIS IV DLC "FREDMAN'S EPISTLES" IS FREE UNTIL JULY 4

http://www.pcgamer.com/europa-universalis-iv-dlc-fredmans-epistles-is-free-until-july-4/

Things are going pretty well for Paradox Interactive. Hearts of Iron IV sold more than 200,000 copies in two weeks, Stellaris moved 500,000 copies in just over a month, and Europa Universalis IV has now sold more than one million copies world-wide. That's not a lot compared to, say, the latest Call of Duty or Halo, but for a historical grand strategy game set in the mid-15th to early-19th century? It's enough to make a niche developer/publisher like Paradox happy—so happy that it's decided to make the new EUIV DLC Fredman's Epistles free for everyone until July 4.

MAFIA 3 PREORDER BONUSES REVEALED

http://www.pcgamer.com/mafia-3-preorder-bonuses-revealed/

The Mafia 3 trailer that came out of E3 a couple weeks ago was really impressive, setting up a tale of betrayal and bloody revenge in the racially-strained American south of the 1960s. Today's video is predictably not up to that level—it's preorder bonus reveal, after all—but still has pretty great music.

SQUAD DEVELOPMENT KIT OUT NOW

SINS OF A SOLAR EMPIRE: REBELLION GETS OUTLAW SECTORS DLC

http://www.pcgamer.com/sins-of-a-solar-empire-rebellion-gets-outlaw-sectors-dlc/

Gorgeous space RTS/4X Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion has a new expansion, which has popped up rather suddenly on Steam and the Stardock store. The Outlaw Sectors DLC not only embiggens pirates, it adds militias to the game that "will grow, raid nearby systems, and repopulate over time". As with pirates, you'll be able to pay militias to do your bidding, using them "to help defend your worlds, or coordinate your attacks with their strikes for maximum impact". Why can't everyone just get along?

BOSS RUSH ACTION GAME FURI OUT JULY 5

http://www.pcgamer.com/boss-rush-action-game-furi-out-july-5/

Stylish action game Furi looks to be all meat and no fat, meaning that, like Shadow of the Colossus, it does away with regular enemy fodder to focus purely on boss battles. The gifs on James Davenport's hands-on are pretty mesmerising and, well, just pretty, in part due to the fact that Afro Samurai’s Takashi Okazaki is involved with the art design.

SIERRA-STYLE RETRO ADVENTURE DARK FEAR HITS PC

http://www.pcgamer.com/sierra-style-retro-adventure-dark-fear-hits-pc/

The name 'Dark Fear' doesn't really tell you anything, other than that horror is probably involved to some degree, so know that this is a vaguely Myst-y point and click adventure set in a spooky environment, but with RPG-style battles and stats, and for some reason hunting and fishing minigames too.
