Despite all the talk about the new cards, we can't forget about the old ones, specially when they recieve price cuts!

NVIDIA Cuts Prices of GTX 980 Ti, GTX 980, and GTX 970

http://www.techpowerup.com/223432/nvidia-cuts-prices-of-gtx-980-ti-gtx-980-and-gtx-970

In the wake of its GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 graphics card launches, NVIDIA decided to cut prices of its previous-generation GeForce GTX 980 Ti, GeForce GTX 980, and GeForce GTX 970 graphics cards, in a bid to clear inventories. The $379 and 150W GTX 1070 is faster than the GTX 980 Ti and the GTX Titan X, rendering them obsolete. The price of the $620 GTX 980 Ti has been cut by $125, and is now down to $495~499. The GTX 980, on the other hand, sees its price cut by $75, bringing its price down from $399 to $324, less than the launch-price of the GTX 970. The smash-hit GTX 970, at the dusk of its market life, sees its price cut by $25, bringing it down from $289 to $265.

In summary:

GTX 980 Ti now $495~499
GTX 980 down to $324
GTX 970 down to $265

If only we had those prices over here in Europe... *sigh*

That's because all those cards use the reference cooler. They just don't have a fancy name or a higher price tag with it...

We got to see the non reference Sapphire Nitro a few days ago http://videocardz.com/60992/sapphire-radeon-rx-480-nitro-pictured

Gotcha. That makes sense.

Remember the article I posted about MSI and Asus sending cards with modified BIOS to reviewers? Well, Asus has responded, and they feel it's fine and nothing to be ashamed of.

ASUS issues official statement on ‘boosted’ review samples

ASUS Responds to GTX 1080 "Reviewer VBIOS" Concerns
http://www.pcper.com/news/Cases-and-Cooling/ASUS-Responds-GTX-1080-Reviewer-VBIOS-Concerns

(I'll post some excerpts of the PCPer article)

ASUS sent along its official statement on the issue.

ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 graphics cards come with exclusive GPU Tweak II software, which provides silent, gaming, and OC modes allowing users to select a performance profile that suits their requirements. Users can apply these modes easily from within GPU Tweak II.

The press samples for the ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 OC and ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070 OC cards are set to “OC Mode” by default. To save media time and effort, OC mode is enabled by default as we are well aware our graphics cards will be reviewed primarily on maximum performance. And when in OC mode, we can showcase both the maximum performance and the effectiveness of our cooling solution.

Retail products are in “Gaming Mode” by default, which allows gamers to experience the optimal balance between performance and silent operation. We encourage end-users to try GPU Tweak II and adjust between the available modes, to find the best mode according to personal needs or preferences.

For both the press samples and retail cards, all these modes can be selected through the GPU Tweak II software. There are no differences between the samples we sent out to media and the retail channels in terms of hardware and performance.

Sincerely,
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.

While I don't believe that ASUS' intentions were entirely to save me time in my review, and I think that the majority of gamers paying $600+ for a graphics card would be willing to enable the OC mode through software, it's clearly a bad move on ASUS' part to have done this. Having a process in place at all to create a deviation from retail cards on press hardware is questionable, other than checking for functionality to avoid shipping DOA hardware to someone on a deadline.

Videocardz has posted a few RX 480 leaks under one big article, for our pleasure:

AMD RADEON RX 480 RUMORS

http://videocardz.com/61193/amd-radeon-rx-480-rumors

Rather than posting each of those news pieces separately, I think it would make more sense to post them all here.

XFX Radeon RX 480 on production line

First up, Radeon RX 480 waiting for final packaging on production line. Unlike other cards we saw, this one has full cover backplate. It’s hard to say from this angle if these cards are using reference design, but they do seem to utilize short PCB and blower type cooler.

XFX Radeon RX 480 GPU-Z

Next up, a screenshot allegedly showing custom XFX RX 480 specs (could be the same card you can see above). GPU-Z does yet support Polaris architecture, so all release related information is not displayed. Interestingly base clock is not detected as well, and as a result pixel fillrate and texture fillrate are not calculated. This picture would confirm that some RX 480 cards will ship with high factory-overclocking (+100 MHz).

RX 480 without the shroud

Here’s how RX 480 looks after removing cooler shroud.

AMD Radeon RX 480 preorders available in China

Expreview discovered that all popular GPU brands in China are already taking preorders for RX 480. For now it’s only reference design, but who knows what will be available next week?

Yeston Radeon RX 480

Finally new set of RX 480 pictures from company called Yeston. Some of you were asking for better photo of the back, so here it is.

AMD Radeon RX 480 supports DVI

Some people were worried that RX 480 may not support DVI. Well the good news is that AMD confirmed DVI support for Polaris 10. The DVI port was simply not installed on reference model, but proper connections are available on the circuit board. So it’s totally up to add-in-board partners to decide if they want to offer DVI-capable RX cards.

Mmm hot cakes.

Have a bad feeling about the 480 pricing in Canada. Some rumours are out and things are not looking great. The feels when an alleged $200 GPU ends up costing double that.

Yeah, with the current exchange rates and how oddly priced are the PC components outside of the US, I wouldn't be surprised if the RX 480 ends up costing 250 € for the 4GB and 300 € for the 8GB models.
