I'll admit that I'm not impartial, and that he's looking for his business, but man...

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang tells Trump he agrees the AI doomsayers are perpetrating a hoax: 'you saw through all of that'
https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/nvidia-ceo-jensen-huang-tells-trump-he-agrees-the-ai-doomsayers-are-perpetrating-a-hoax-you-saw-through-all-of-that/
There's been a lot of talk about AI 'slowdown' over the last few days, since Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei said the industry needs to slow down to allow for better safety measures to be implemented, with these comments themselves riding in the wake of recent cybersecurity threats. Seemingly every big tech bro and even world leaders have been keen to discuss the issue.

Naturally, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom has been keen to say something on the issue and urge against slowing things down. His comments, however, were interspersed with similar sentiments from US President Donald Trump, who called the CEO while the latter was on-stage for the All-In Podcast (via CNBC).

Huang expressed gratitude for Trump's calling AI doomsaying a hoax: "There’s a lot of complexity and the fact of the matter is you saw through all of that, and we're all just really grateful."

Sam Altman still owns the "more puncheable face" title of the AI people, at least in my opinion, but Jensen may win the "guy I want to kick the hardest" award. And I'm not taking about kicking him in the butt (tho they're quite close).

I rarely buy on those sales - but I find things for my wishlist later down the road. As a result, my Steam wishlist alone has now over 280 entries...

Rookie numbers! My wishlist has over 1,800 entries. I've tried going through it a bit several times over the years, hoping to remove stuff from there, but it's just not worth the time... Almost everything has a justified place there. I might have to take a stricter stance at some point, but it seems I really want about 1,800 things, mostly games. Needless to say, I won't be able to play but a fraction of them during my lifetime.

I don't think I've bought almost anything from those sales either, it's just a wishlist thing. But it's been getting harder and harder to even find stuff to add to my wishlist, because there's so many events with so many games.

I have... 11 wishlisted games.

I only put there games I'm 100% sure I'm going to buy after either trying them thanks to a demo or a free to try weekend, or because I've searched online for reviews and gameplay videos. I rarely put games in the list without doing that and, in the few times I've done it, I've sometimes regreted it, like with Cyberpunk 2077.

I'm also following 174 titles that haven't launched yet or I still haven't done my homework (that reviews and gameplay search).

I'm always amazed with those of you with hundreds or thousand of wishlisted games.

What can I say. I'm open to a lot of different kinds of games... or maybe not all that different, but still a lot of games. I kind of wish Steam wishlist had a tier system where I could have must-buy titles in one list, maybe-buy-if-stars-align titles in another, and the other remaining titles in the last one. I don't think we're getting that, though, so manual prioritization will have to do. Even my partner has about 80 titles on her wishlist, even though she's had a gaming PC only since 2018 and has added new games to her wishlist quite sparingly. There's just so much interesting stuff on Steam.

And it's not like I add games to my wishlist just based on how they look, although that's important too. I usually go through all the screenshots, sometimes some videos/GIFs, get an idea of what gameplay is generally about, even if I don't necessarily get a good feel for it, and I definitely take a look at user reviews if the game has those.

Personally I'm amazed how someone can have only 11 wishlisted games. I guess those 174 followed titles are doing a lot of heavy lifting to keep your wishlist tidy. I don't follow a lot of games myself. I've considered doing more of that for unreleased games, but I know I'd never get around to adding them to my wishlist if they turn out good, so I just wishlist them and maybe remove them from there if they end up sucking.

Fan Is Bringing Halo 5: Guardians’ Single-Player Campaign to PC
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/fan-is-bringing-halo-5-guardians-single-player-campaign-to-pc/
Now here is something really cool. GitHub’s ‘danielmccluskey’ is currently working on a project that aims to bring the single-player campaign of Halo 5 to the PC. So, let’s take a look at it.
Halo 5 Campaign on PC is a small fan project that aims to get the Halo 5: Guardians campaign running on PC. It uses the existing Halo 5: Forge PC build as a base. The project is still very early and experimental, but it can already run the first two campaign missions.
According to its creator, the project supports the Osiris and Blue Team missions. Players can use a custom launcher to prepare the required game data and start the campaign. The launcher works with extracted Halo 5 game files and creates the cache needed to run the game. A complete cache can also be used without keeping the original game dump.
This unofficial PC version of the Halo 5 campaign is only available for Windows. It does not support Linux. I’m pointing this out because many recent recompilations also have Linux versions. Then again, this project is not a recompilation. But anyway, the project also requires the Halo 5: Forge Bundle from the Microsoft Store. You will also need the required Halo 5 game files. These files are not included with the project.
The main goal is simple: get the original Halo 5 campaign working on PC. The project does not aim to bring Halo 5’s multiplayer, matchmaking, or Xbox services to PC. In other words, it will solely focus on the single-player campaign.

If you are interested in it, you can download its early version from this link (Girhub). Below, you can also find a video that showcases its two single-player levels.

Unofficial PC Version of Ninja Gaiden 2 Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/unofficial-pc-version-of-ninja-gaiden-2-released/
GitHub user “TheSaltTrader” has released an unofficial PC version of Ninja Gaiden 2. The game first came out in 2008 as an Xbox 360 exclusive. Now, 18 years later, PC gamers can finally play it on their PCs without using an emulator.
Going into more detail, Ninja’s Dawn is a static recompilation of the Xbox 360 game. This means it is not an emulator. The game’s code is translated into native x86-64 code, so it runs as a Windows program. The port targets 60 FPS and adds many PC options.
The port supports Windows 10 and Windows 11. It also supports frame rates from 30 to 144 FPS, V-Sync, full-screen mode, custom window sizes, and monitor selection. You can also use ultrawide 3D support. This expands the view without stretching the image. Internal supersampling is also supported, with settings up to 8x.
Ninja’s Dawn also adds several visual options. These include anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing, FidelityFX CAS, and a texture pack system. You can dump the game’s textures and upscale them. The port supports both Lanczos and Real-ESRGAN. The latter uses AI to add more detail to textures. The texture pack can also be switched on and off while the game is running.
The port includes useful PC features as well. You get keyboard controls, Xbox 360 save import, DLC support, and an in-game settings menu. There are also FPS, CPU, RAM, GPU, and VRAM readouts. A frame-time overlay and console are included too.
You can go ahead and download the latest version from here (Github). As with all PC recompilations, it does not contain any in-game assets. This means that you’ll have to provide your own ISO of the Xbox 360 version. As I’ve said a million times, we won’t allow any download links to ROM or ISO files. So, don’t bother asking in the Comment section.

As Skyblivion's launch approaches, the team is looking for help to get the word out

The gears are still grinding on Skyblivion, the massive mod that aims to recreate The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion in the newer, prettier technology of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition. A release date still hasn't been announced, but it's definitely getting closer—and once again, the dev team is asking for help.
What's notable, though, is the kind of help the developers are looking for: Not to finish the mod, but to tell the world about it.

The second part of t he gaming news:

The best Total War game is getting a remaster with 50 newly playable factions, modern visuals, and a full Japanese voiceover
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/the-best-total-war-game-is-getting-a-remaster-with-50-newly-playable-factions-modern-visuals-and-a-full-japanese-voiceover/
Total War fans are eating good recently. Lovers of fantasy have the Lords of the End Times DLC for Total War: Warhammer inbound, historical fans have Medieval 3 on the distant horizon, and even enjoyers of grim dark sci-fi have Total War: Warhammer 40k likely dropping next year. Well, it gets even better.
Today, Creative Assembly announced that Total War: Shogun 2 is getting a remaster on October 13. Widely considered to be one of the best Total War games (especially its Fall of Samurai expansion) Shogun 2 originally came out in 2011, so it's starting to show its age a little bit.

The Witcher 3 is the perfect videogame. Is that hyperbolic? Maybe a bit. But it's unquestionably one of the greatest RPGs of all time, a game that arrived with a 92% review score and somehow got better through years of fixes, upgrades, and expansions, the last of which provided a perfectly satisfying conclusion to the epic of Geralt (and an even higher review score).
(...)
There's clearly a lot going on, and it invites a question: Given the esteem in which The Witcher 3 is held, and the hard-earned ending it granted Geralt, is there any worry about messing with it? For CD Projekt's vice president of narration Marcin Blacha, who served as the lead writer of The Witcher 3 and story director on its two expansions, the answer is an easy 'no.'

It's a sad day for aficionados of undead porn games, but a good one for pretty much everybody else: Valve has rescinded the adults only rating it had applied to the upcoming narrative RPG Nighthawks, meaning it will appear in standard searches on the storefront and won't be blocked from sale in some regions.

Blizzard is aware Overwatch fans are tired of seeing its fanciest skins go to the same heroes and it's 'the number one' thing it's working to fix next

Overwatch has over 40 heroes at this point, each with their own legion of fans. Blizzard can't make everyone happy when it comes to releasing new skins, but its most recent skins have fans convinced it's playing favorites.
Heroes who have already been swimming in skins, like Kiriko and Genji, keep getting more and more while other heroes are left with scraps.
(…)
In an interview with PC Gamer, art director Dion Rogers said the team never intentionally leaves out certain heroes from Mythic discussions. "It's just more of what the team is excited about in the moment, or the very cool ideas sitting in front of us basically," he said. Some heroes are easier to get to than others, he added.
But Rogers said the team has seen the feedback about repeat Mythics and is going to work on spreading them out better in the future. Specifically, he said it'll be "the number one thing" the team will start to conceptualize next.

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter has one of the creepiest JRPG monsters I've encountered
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/trails-in-the-sky-2nd-chapter-remake-has-one-of-the-creepiest-jrpg-monsters-ive-encountered/
Let's face it: JRPG monsters are pure nightmare fuel. Sure, there's a certain subset who are plain ol' cute, but for the most part they're a horrifying mash up of real world animals and mythical monsters, chimeric creatures amalgamating whatever bits and pieces the artist decided to chuck in the blender that day.
Not that I'm complaining, mind you—it wouldn't be a JRPG for me without them. (...)
But I never thought I'd find a top tier creepy JRPG monster in a Trails game. (...)
However, while playing the Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Remake recently, I ran into a monster in Kaldia Tunnel in the game's Zeiss region who freaked me out. The Faerie Epitaph was in the original game and kind of resembles a melted angel statue, but with this full 3D remake, Falcom added a fun trick to this monster.

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons won't have waypoints, so that players can figure things out without 'blindly trusting' a UI
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/warlock-dungeons-and-dragons-wont-have-waypoints-so-that-players-can-figure-things-out-without-blindly-trusting-a-ui/
I have shifted from a position of 'really? A third-person action D&D game?' to cautiously optimistic about the upcoming Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons. Partially because of a really solid showing at Gamescom, actually leveraging the prospect of playing a spellcaster with a bunch of interesting interactions and some swanky-looking combat.
My optimism continues to grow after an interview with IGN, in which general manager Dominic Guay tells the site that the game will be getting rid of traditional quest markers—there's a compass you can turn off, but that's about it: "We wanted them to engage with the world, to figure things out and feel that when they found things, it was based on their actions and not just blindly trusting a waypoint."

Delaying them to 2028 sucks, but it's also bad to see how they raise the price of their current GPUs every couple of months.
It won't happen, but I'd really love for them to take the extra time to make sure the hardware delivers and the drivers are in mint condition.

As for AMD's take on DLSS5, it was all but expected. After all, if Nvidia does something, AMD follows suit. Let's just hope they do it well in their first try, unlike RT or multi-frame gen.

I'd be surprised, Nvidia's deep learning department seems light-years ahead of AMD's and even then DLSS5 feels more like a new DLSS1 "proof-of-concept" moment.

I'm honestly hoping AMD won't follow DLSS5 approach, but instead make something that has to be deeper in engine and actually understand the scene.
