The amount of Steam and GOG sales these days is just staggering. I used to look through them fairly/somewhat carefully, but there's so many of them and so many games included in each one that I've found myself to increasingly just scroll through them and see if anything catches my attention somehow. Not only that, but they also include a lot of games that don't even seem all that great. There was a time when sales events were a half-decent way to discover new games, but it seems that we've moved past that time now. Also, there was a time when it felt like I kept running into the same games on GOG all the time. I'm not sure if I still do, because I definitely don't recognize as many games as I used to - so I'm guessing there's been an explosion of new releases on GOG too, and most of the new releases don't really look very interesting. I guess all this means that online stores are becoming more and more places where you go get what you already know rather than places where you can find new stuff. |
I rarely buy on those sales - but I find things for my wishlist later down the road. As a result, my Steam wishlist alone has now over 280 entries... |
Rookie numbers! My wishlist has over 1,800 entries. I've tried going through it a bit several times over the years, hoping to remove stuff from there, but it's just not worth the time... Almost everything has a justified place there. I might have to take a stricter stance at some point, but it seems I really want about 1,800 things, mostly games. Needless to say, I won't be able to play but a fraction of them during my lifetime.
I don't think I've bought almost anything from those sales either, it's just a wishlist thing. But it's been getting harder and harder to even find stuff to add to my wishlist, because there's so many events with so many games.
