Yeah, took them long enough. Now let's keep an aye on them to make sure that they actually deliver, because that 2027 for RX 6000 cards is suspiciously vague..

I wonder if this means PS5 is getting that version of FSR4.1 as well...

Ain't PSSV 2.0 exactly that?

It's PSSR (I think it is for PlayStation Super Resolution), and yes, it's based on the same... tech? Software? Whatever.

So, it's up to Sony to decide if they keep it PS5 Pro exclusive or if they bring it to the regular PS5.

A couple more articles about Valve being Valve, and a modder having fun with the new controller:

'Average Valve W': After some Steam Controller packages were sent to the wrong country, Valve is reportedly giving 'any standard-edition title' to affected shoppers
https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/controllers/average-valve-w-after-some-steam-controller-packages-were-sent-to-the-wrong-country-valve-is-reportedly-giving-any-standard-edition-title-to-affected-shoppers/

It seems like the Steam Controller is a hit. After selling out immediately, Valve implemented a reservation system to get your hands on it without having to fight so many scalpers. If you recently purchased one, and your package has been sent to the wrong country by mistake, there's a chance Valve will reimburse you with a game of your choosing. That's not bad for a short wait.

Hear the Steam Controller sing whole songs with haptics, including the Wii Store soundtrack, Still Alive, and even attempt a Rick Roll
https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/game-pads/hear-the-steam-controller-sing-whole-songs-with-haptics-including-the-wii-store-soundtrack-still-alive-and-even-attempt-a-rick-roll/
The Steam Controller is full of surprises. It screams when you drop it and it even sings songs if you program it to. You don't have to program it yourself, however, just drop a MIDI track into this software on Github and it'll do its best to to sing its little heart out.

More or less - though, IIRC, FSR4 and PSSR2 are trained differently.

But that's for PS5 Pro, which is hybrid of RDNA3 and 4, and PS5 is RDNA2. So, just like AMD needs more time with RX6000 series (early 2017), I'm guessing Sony will need more work on the model for PS5...that is, if they decide to put it on PS5, though I honestly don't see the reason why they would decide against it.

I'm going to guess it's not an automatic win for already released games, so it would probably end up benefitting only a relatively small number of games, and training a model that can run on the base PS5 does probably take some effort. Besides, why incentivize buying a base model when when it weakens the incentive to buy the ridiculously priced Pro model? It's not like Sony seems to exactly have our best in mind.

I'm guessing that at least some AAA devs will try to implement it in their already released titles, since it does give superior image quality, though at performance cost to current PS5 solutions at same rendering resolution. I think they will certainly try to use it in future titles, since, due to probable high PS6 price and slow early adoption, PS5 will most likely be around for quite some time and giving devs option to run increasingly intensive games at lower resolution and upscale them to their target is reasonable thing to do, which PSSR equivalent of FSR4 provides.

That's definitely a fair scenario too. I can definitely see the likes of CD Projekt RED utilizing whatever tech is available to them, but some not so much.

I'm not sold on either outcome, but I think there's valid arguments for not bringing it to the base PS5 as well, so it seems tough to rule it out either.

Right now, FSR 4 can be forced when a title supports FSR 3.1, but the output is probably better when done specifically for FSR 4(.1). But due to this, I doubt many older titles will go and add FSR 4.1 support unless it's just an quick update for their 4.0 version.

Well, yeah, on PC you just turn on AMD FSR Scaling in Adrenalin, so choosing 3.1 in game will run latest FSR.

As for PS5, I don't know - I think few of them will definitely do this, if anything but to see how it behaves and get feedback for their future titles.
