You could win a $500 Amazon gift card by playing Subnautica 2 this month, so remember to send us your best video clips!
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/you-could-win-a-usd500-amazon-gift-card-by-playing-subnautica-2-this-month-so-remember-to-send-us-your-best-video-clips/
The number one wishlisted game on Steam is almost here, and as you dive deep into the murky and mysterious waters of Subnautica 2 this week, let me give you one important piece of advice.
No, I'm not telling you to monitor your oxygen supply or watch out for sea monsters. I'm saying this: remember to press the record button. It could win you a $500 Amazon gift card.
We've been loving all the great videos you've been sending us for the feature we launched earlier this year, PC Gamer Clips. You've sent us clips of chaotic comedy in Crimson Desert, ridiculous stunts in GTA 5 and Skate, some truly impressive marksmanship in Counter-Strike 2 and Arc Raiders, and we've gotten tons of other awesome clips—like this one of a custom racing rig built into the cab of a truck.

Konami belatedly realises hey, we might have something here, as the first properly new Silent Hill in 13 years sells over 2 million
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/horror/konami-belatedly-realises-hey-we-might-have-something-here-as-the-first-properly-new-silent-hill-in-13-years-sells-over-2-million/
Konami has been gradually easing itself back into the business of making proper videogames in recent years and, as well as reviving the Metal Gear series with the Master Collection and an excellent remake of MGS3, has both remade Silent Hill 2 and co-developed Silent Hill f, the first properly new entry in the series since 2012's poorly received Downfall.
And the good news? It was great! We're never going back to the halcyon days of Team Silent, but PCG's Elie Gould reckoned this was "a true return to form" that received a stonking 90% in our review: "A game that not only can stand proudly shoulder to shoulder with other goliaths in the series, but one that is brave enough to take risks and deploy changes to set the groundwork for what I hope to be the new standard of Silent Hill games going forward."
Konami has now announced that Silent Hill f, released in September 2025, has sold over two million copies worldwide, as of April 22 this year. That's even more impressive in the context of the game itself, which is not a mainstream action blockbuster like your Resident Evils but a much more subtle horror experience set in 1960s Japan and woven around the culture's mythology. Protagonist Hinako and the choices she faces throughout, and the way her inner fears manifest, has convinced even the hardcore Silent Hill-ers that this series now has its identity back, and a real future ahead of it.

Doom is 10 years old today, and you can pick it up for just $2 on Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/doom-is-10-years-old-today-and-you-can-pick-it-up-for-just-usd2-on-steam/
Today is the 10th anniversary of Doom—not the 1993 classic that changed the world, but the 2016 reboot that proved to be far better than I'd dared to hope. We celebrated the big birthday by confirming with Doom co-creator John Romero that Doom Guy was not intentionally rocking a sexy tummy window, but had in fact had his shirt torn open by the legions of Hell. Why did we do this? Because we're PC Gamer and we do whatever the hell we want, that's why.
Others have apparently chosen to mark the memorable moment in more conventional ways—such as Doom overlord Bethesda Softworks, which has marked that great shooter down to just $2/£1.59/€2 on Steam, 90% off the regular price. Doom is, to be clear, well worth that regular price—as a stand-up, balls-out, rip-and-tear killfest, there are very few better—so for $2, it's an absolute steal.

The Talos Principle 3 promises an 'epic grand finale' to the tale of humanity's rebirth
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/puzzle/the-talos-principle-3-promises-an-epic-grand-finale-to-the-tale-of-humanitys-rebirth/
The Talos Principle 3, the third and final chapter of one of the least-expected videogame series of all time, was made official today, and much like the jump from the first game to the second, it promises a familiar slate of puzzles wrapped in a very different sort of narrative experience.

Embark says the 'pressure of a monthly cycle' is holding Arc Raiders back, so it's slowing down: Major updates will come every 6 months from now on
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/embark-says-the-pressure-of-a-monthly-cycle-is-holding-arc-raiders-back-so-its-slowing-down-major-updates-will-come-every-6-months-from-now-on/
Embark is slowing down the live service treadmill for Arc Raiders. The hit extraction shooter will now receive major updates twice a year. That's in contrast to its current run of monthly updates, which have been hit or miss in the seven months since launch.
Arc Raiders' bi-annual updates will be "larger in scale, more impactful, with the goal to genuinely change how you play the game," according to a blog post penned by executive producer Aleksander Grøndal.

Subnautica 2 devs say it's 'bigger and more polished' than any of the studio's previous early access launches
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/subnautica-2-devs-say-its-bigger-and-more-polished-than-any-of-the-studios-previous-early-access-launches/
On the eve of Subnautica 2's early access launch, calling it hotly anticipated would be a wild understatement. It's Steam's most-wanted game, as over 5 million users have added it to their wishlist in the run-up to launch. The masses yearn for the deep.
Despite the high-stakes hype, Subnautica 2's developers at Unknown Worlds say they're confident that they're setting a new watermark for the studio. In an interview with PC Gamer, Unknown Worlds game design lead Anthony Gallegos and creative media producer Scott MacDonald said Subnautica 2 should be the studio's most impressive early access launch to date—but they're just as excited for the dirty work of building out its future updates with the help of community input.

Turn-based tactics game Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus 2 will release next week to coincide with a Warhammer Skulls event stacked with reveals

The annual Warhammer Skulls event has mutated over the years, going from a week of discounts and freebies involving Warhammer-themed videogames to a showcase of upcoming additions to that growing library of ultraviolence. This year's edition will be no different, but we're also getting a whole game earlier than expected, with turn-based tactics-em-up Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus 2 being released during the Skulls event on May 21.

Bungie is turning Marathon's loot dial to 11 ahead of its first wipe, opening up Cryo Archive 24/7
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/bungie-is-turning-marathons-loot-dial-to-11-ahead-of-its-first-wipe-opening-up-cryo-archive-24-7/
As much as I love Marathon, its progression hits like a brick wall after a few dozen hours. Quests become longer multi-step treks across maps around the same time high-tier upgrades start asking for dozens of items that I've encountered maybe four times.
These are issues that Bungie is seemingly testing against in an "end of season' update coming on May 19. The big highlight? Locked room keys—an extremely rare drop that grants access to the best loot rooms on Tau Ceti—are becoming guaranteed drops for on-map events.

Capcom says it's eyeing Devil May Cry, Ace Attorney, Dragon's Dogma for 'sequels, remakes, ports, etc.', and I'll gladly take the excuse to get my hopes up
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/capcom-says-its-eyeing-devil-may-cry-ace-attorney-dragons-dogma-for-sequels-remakes-ports-etc-and-ill-gladly-take-the-excuse-to-get-my-hopes-up/
It has been another very good year for Capcom. The company just released its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 2026, continuing a streak of record profits by completing its 11th consecutive year of operating profit growth over 10%. Those profits were driven by year-over-year increases in games sales—particularly the breakaway success of Resident Evil Requiem.
Aside from detailing the last year's wins, Capcom's financial report also lays out its growth strategies for the years ahead. Those grand plans, it says, aim not just to strengthen its "leading brands"—like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter—but also to elevate its other series so they can deliver similar results. And it offered a glimpse of which franchises it might be focusing on next.

SALES/PLAYER COUNTS & DEALS

Subnautica 2 has sold 2 million copies in 12 hours, with 9x the players as the first, and at this point I figure that Krafton CEO is already on his second bottle
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/subnautica-2-has-sold-2-million-copies-in-12-hours-with-9x-the-players-as-the-first-and-at-this-point-i-figure-that-krafton-ceo-is-already-on-his-second-bottle/
It's rare, especially in this day and age, to see a genuine comeuppance play out in real time—which is why I'm savouring this particular piece of glee as I'm informed that Subnautica 2 has hit a 2 million copy milestone in just 12 hours, after selling a million copies in one.
Per a press release sent to PC Gamer, "Peak concurrent players across Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Xbox exceeded 651,000, with Steam alone reaching a peak of more than 467,000 concurrent players. This marks approximately nine times the all-time peak concurrent player count of the original Subnautica, which launched in 2018."

Windrose hits 2 million sales milestone, proving yet again that the world really, really wanted a good pirate game
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/windrose-hits-2-million-sales-milestone-proving-yet-again-that-the-world-really-really-wanted-a-good-pirate-game/
Early access pirate sim Windrose has hit two million sales, pretty much exactly a month after its April 14 release date. That's a big number, and to contextualize it with another sales milestone announced this week, it took Silent Hill f more than six months to sell the same amount.
These games are obviously very different but it's still interesting to look at them side-by-side: Silent Hill is a decades-old heritage franchise, and its most recent installment released not just on PC but PS5 and Xbox Series X as well. Two million sold is a positive outcome, according to Konami.
Windrose, on the other hand, is PC-only and early access to boot. No one had heard of it this time last year, nor the Uzbekistan-based studio making it. Under these circumstances, selling two million units in a month is no small feat. It goes to show that the hunger for a properly good pirate game is huge.
