Dark Souls 2 Path Tracing Mod Beta Released to Everyone
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/dark-souls-2-path-tracing-mod-beta-released-to-everyone/
Dark Souls 2, the time has finally come. Modder ‘Ganaboy’ has released a new beta version of DS2LightingEngine that has support for Path Tracing. As such, you can get your first taste of Dark Souls 2 with real-time Path Tracing.
The mod removes almost all fake lights in the game. As such, torches and items that produce light are invaluable in the early parts of the game. Otherwise, it will be difficult to see your surroundings. The modder has also manually reconfigured most areas and lights for each zone.
To run Dark Souls 2 with Path Tracing, you will need an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 series or equivalent AMD/Intel RT capable GPU. NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR4 are both supported.
The modder recommends playing with minimum player light possible. Torch mechanics and light mechanics are crucial in early game, and timers should be preserved as much as possible when not needed. Plus, there is native support for HDR.
Since this is a beta release, you might encounter some bugs and graphical issues. If you encounter any, you should let the modder know about them.
Those interested can download this public beta version of the DS2LightingEngine Mod from Ganaboy’s Discord server. I should also note that the mod is for the Scholar of the First Sin Edition.

Mega Man 64 Unofficial Native PC Port Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/mega-man-64-unofficial-native-pc-port-released/
Mega Man fans, here is something really cool for you. An unofficial native PC port of the Nintendo 64 Mega Man game, Mega Man 64, has just come out, and you can download it right now.
This unofficial port will let you experience Mega Man 64 on your PC. Right now, the port supports widescreen monitors, as well as high framerates. I don’t know, though, whether there is proper support for keyboard and mouse.
From what I can see, this is a really early release. As such, you may encounter a bunch of bugs and glitches. There are also some known bugs and issues. For instance, there are level geometry seams. There are interpolation issues for some particle effects, and widescreen support is not yet 100% complete. There can also be some desync issues in cut-scenes.
So, consider this a beta release. This isn’t a full/final release. Yes, it will allow you to play the entire game. However, some of you may prefer to wait for a more advanced version.
For those wondering, no. Capcom and Nintendo will not be able to shut it down. This project does not have any in-game assets. As such, there is nothing the big N can do to take it down.
You can go ahead and download this unofficial PC port of Mega Man 64 from this link.

First Version of Duke Nukem 3D Path Tracing Mod Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/first-version-of-duke-nukem-3d-path-tracing-mod-released/
Modder ‘postmemetic’ has released the first version of his Ray Tracing Mod for the classic Duke Nukem FPS game, Duke Nukem 3D. This mod will let you experience the iconic FPS with ray-traced lighting. So, let’s take a closer look at it.
According to the modder, Duke-RT is a fork of Raze that adds a new ray-tracing render backend based on NVIDIA NRI. It still builds on Raze’s existing support for Build-engine games, but this fork focuses on path tracing, RT renderer bring-up, lighting authoring, custom material creation, denoising and upscaling integration, and backend diagnostics. It also includes tools and overlay workflows that allow users to create their own material and lighting rules for Duke content.
Keep in mind that Duke-RT is still a work in progress. The core renderer is already implemented, with full support for modern graphics APIs and technologies like D3D12, DLSS Super Resolution, and Ray Reconstruction. The modder has also remastered Episode 1 with PBR materials, based on the original assets, along with updated lighting. Episodes 2 and 3, however, are not yet finished. So, if you want the full ray-traced experience across the entire game, you’ll need to wait until those episodes are completed.
In future versions, postmemetic also plans to add volumetrics such as rocket smoke. He will improve water surfaces, and he will implement proper mirror replacements. Plus, we can expect better glass effects.
If you want to try the mod, you can go ahead and download it from this link. To run it, you must own Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour. Otherwise, the mod will not work.
>> This mod is also from Github and there’s a short video of it in the article.

The Tuesday gaming news, part two:

Arc Raiders' latest Riven Tides teaser hints that the terrifying UFO we've been seeing is actually the next mega-boss enemy
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/arc-raiders-latest-riven-tides-teaser-hints-that-the-terrifying-ufo-weve-been-seeing-is-actually-the-next-mega-boss-enemy/
Over the past week or so, Arc Raiders has been teasing its biggest update yet on the roadmap, Riven Tides (coming April 28), by emailing players transcripts of a scout's report. Where is the scout, you ask? On the new map, which has long been rumoured as a beachfront and/or shipping yard.
(...)
Absent in the blog post but included in the third scout report email is a note that the scout has heard "Something overhead", so is "Finding cover" which seems to be hinting at Riven Tides' second most exciting addition: A new large Arc. This will be similar in scale and challenge to the Queen or Matriarch. From the sounds of it, it's not a land or sea-based Sharc, unfortunately, but likely another flying enemy. Most likely, it's the UFO players have reported seeing in the clouds since the Shrouded Sky update. If that's the case, then it's truly terrifying.

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sim/primal-repairs-is-basically-a-handyman-sim-set-in-the-world-of-the-flintstones/
With so many sim games launching on Steam each week, it can be difficult to stand out. On the face of it, a "handyman simulator" just sounds like more of the same, but Primal Repairs does offer one very strong twist that caught my eye today: it's set in what is basically the world of The Flintstones.

Crusader Kings 3's next major expansions will bring playable Popes and merchant republics
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sim/crusader-kings-3s-next-major-expansions-will-bring-playable-popes-and-merchant-republics/
After last year's celebrated Chapter Four expansions that extended Crusader Kings 3's map across Asia with systems for playing as Mongolian nomads, Chinese courtly bureaucrats, and god-kings of Indonesia, Paradox isn't resting on its laurels. Today, the studio unveiled its future plans in a Chapter Five reveal video, previewing a pair of major paid DLC aimed at overhauling CK3's religion gameplay and introducing new mercantile playstyles.

RuneScape initiates emergency patch rollback for the most ironic reason possible: Giving players so many runes it would cause 'irreparable economic damage'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/jagex-initiates-emergency-runescape-rollback-for-the-most-ironic-reason-possible-too-many-runes/
RuneScape developer Jagex was forced to do a "general rollback" of the game earlier today and return all player progression to the point immediately prior to the game's most recent update. The reason? Well, you see, there were too many runes.

Buck Bumble, the Nintendo 64 shooter starring a cyborg bumblebee, is almost certainly getting a remake
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/buck-bumble-the-nintendo-64-shooter-starring-a-cyborg-bumblebee-is-almost-certainly-getting-a-remake/
British studio Argonaut Games made a bunch of memorable games in the '90s and early 2000s, chief among them the original Star Fox, a Super Nintendo game based on The Ren & Stimpy Show and—who can forget—Croc. It was thanks to the latter that Argonaut Games was reopened in 2024 after a 17 year absence by its founder Jez San, resulting in a remaster of the 1997 3D platformer Croc Legend of the Gobbos. People seem to like it.
Croc is pretty iconic: if you were alive in the '90s and vaguely interested in videogames you'll recognise his whimsical green snout and oddly plaintive eyes immediately. The same cannot be said however, for Buck Bumble. He was the star of a 1998 Nintendo 64 third-person shooter that I had completely forgotten about until, oh, about 45 minutes ago.
(...)
"Right about now Buck Bumble is officially your new wholesome 4/20 mascot, and we will not be taking further questions ...at this time," the official Argonaut Games Bluesky account posted. "But stay tuned and BEE sure to follow us for forthcoming news and announcements!"

Animation powerhouse responsible for One Piece and Dragon Ball Z branches into PC gaming with Toei Games
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/animation-powerhouse-responsible-for-one-piece-and-dragon-ball-z-branches-into-pc-gaming-with-toei-games/
If you've heard the name Toei before then it's likely from its anime subsidiary Toei Animation that produces One Piece, Dragon Ball, and is responsible for both Sailor Moon and Digimon. For fans of those long-running anime, I'm happy to share the news that Toei is branching into gaming.
Toei Games will first venture into the PC game market "launching games primarily for Steam" according to a press release, although there are plans "for expansion to home consoles such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox" later down the line.
Now comes the bad news, Toei Games will not be producing games for its existing series, at least not for the time being. "Our goal is to create a new IP that will captivate the world, starting with games," the press release explains. "The initial lineup of titles, which will be announced at a later date, will not be games using Toei's existing IPs, but rather completely new game titles created by talented creators from Japan and abroad."
>> Bandai Namco having the rigths of those known Ips may have something to do with the games they plan to make.

"We’re currently preparing our next update which will include several features mentioned in last week's Dev Update notice," the studio said on X, "including the addition of a keyboard/mouse and controller preset, difficulty settings, category tabs for your inventory, and more."

Street Fighter 6 somehow patched its incest storyline to make it even shadier than it originally was
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fighting/street-fighter-6-somehow-patched-its-incest-storyline-to-make-it-even-shadier-than-it-originally-was/
If you'd asked me to guess which hill Capcom would choose to die on when it comes to Street Fighter 6, 'one where there's random incest' would not have even been in my top 10 guesses.
(...)
When players began asking the incredibly reasonable question of "Hey, Capcom, what the hell?" Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama basically came out and said… sorry if you're confused by the story. But a promise was still made to "revise certain text passages that may have been misleading," which is what happened in a patch last week.
The problem? Alex has now gone from being openly, brazenly incestuous to still being incestuous, but incredibly shady about it.

Why, oh why is AMD this dumb to decide to drop their hard-earned reputation in the mud with a product so useless and out of reach for the majority of gamers like this one?

Because it's not like those reviews (I haven't checked them) seem positive, at least with the titles they have. So, again, why did they thought that this was a good idea?

It will be interesting to see what kind of damage control they do in the coming days.

Australia wants to know how Valve is combating 'extreme-right communities' on Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/australia-wants-to-know-how-valve-is-combating-extreme-right-communities-on-steam/
Valve risks fines of up to AU$825,000 a day if it fails to respond to a transparency notice issued to it by the Australian government's eSafety Commissioner. According to a statement released by the regulator, Steam is "reportedly a hub for a number of extreme-right communities", and must explain to Australia how it is "identifying, preventing and responding to these harms".
Valve isn't the only gaming organisation under fire: Roblox, Microsoft (for Minecraft), and Epic Games (for Fortnite) have all been served transparency notices as well.
"We’ve seen numerous media reports about grooming taking place on all four of these platforms as well as terrorist and violent extremist-themed gameplay," eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant said. "This includes Islamic State-inspired games and recreations of mass shootings on Roblox, as well as far right groups recreating fascist imagery in Minecraft.
"Media reports have also pointed to games in Fortnite gamifying the horrific events of the WWII Jasenovac concentration camp and the January 6th US Capitol Building riots, while Steam is reportedly a hub for a number of extreme-right communities."
I've reached out to Valve for comment and will update if I hear back.

Crimson Desert Just Got Its First HD Texture Pack
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/crimson-desert-just-got-its-first-hd-texture-pack/
Modder ‘nopoPak’ has just released the first HD Texture Pack for Pearl Abyss’ latest single-player game, Crimson Desert. This pack aims to improve the quality of some of the outdoor stone ground textures in Hernand.
To get ahead of you, no. This pack does not cover anything else. It does not improve the landscape textures, trees, or buildings. It only covers the outdoor stone ground textures in Hernand. Nevertheless, this is a good start for future HD Texture Packs.
Going into even more details, the mod only includes cobblestone, flagstone, gravel, and base soil textures. These are mainly seen in Hernand region locations, but they are reused in various other places.
According to the modder, the vanilla textures were missing a few ambient occlusion (AO) maps. The new modded textures have them. Some textures are almost identical to the originals as they were created from the same base asset. When that wasn’t possible, the modder recreated the other textures in the same style with improved detail.
All in all, this is a small but cool HD Texture Pack for Crimson Desert. If you are currently playing it, I suggest downloading and using it. After all, it’s only 66MB in size. You can download it from here.

Grand Theft Auto Carcer City Demo Available for Download
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/grand-theft-auto-carcer-city-demo-available-for-download/
Man, it looks like I’m really late to the party. I’ve been covering Grand Theft Auto: Carcer City extensively over the past few months, so it’s a bit shocking that I missed the release of its demo. Shame on me, I know.
Anyway, modder ‘DeadpoolMKD’ has released the demo of it. For those who did not know, Carcer City is a total conversion mod for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Grand Theft Auto Carcer City aims to have the biggest and most detailed city ever seen in the 3D-era GTA games. The story follows a former police officer who gets pulled into Carcer City’s dangerous criminal world. The city is falling apart—businesses are closing, important systems are failing, gangs are taking control, and staying alive is never guaranteed.
Going into even more details, the mod drops players into a completely reimagined world inspired by Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and the dark levels from Manhunt. Every street will show signs of struggle, from broken factories and dangerous back alleys to glowing neon bars trying to survive in the ruins. The story takes place in 2001 and features an original plot set in the harsh, violent world of Carcer City. You’ll explore a city filled with gangs, corruption, and people fighting to get by. In this broken place, the only way to rise is to be tough enough to take every chance you get.
The good news is that since the demo is out, it doesn’t really matter whether or not Take-Two decides to take it down. Gamers will share the demo once, and if, its official ModDB page shuts down.
(...)
Anyway, those interested can download the demo from this link. The demo features the world of Carcer City, and it will give you a taste of the storyline. Only the content shown in the introduction video is voice-acted in this demo, so enabling subtitles is recommended. As the modder noted, there will be more versions before the final release, with at least one more planned for this year.

Part two of the gaming news:

If you can't get enough Troy Baker in your videogames, here's the good news: he's going to start making them
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/if-you-cant-get-enough-troy-baker-in-your-videogames-heres-the-good-news-hes-going-to-start-making-them/
Troy Baker is arguably the most high-profile voice actor in videogames, and undoubtedly one of the most prolific. You can't get away from the dude: he's been Indiana Jones, Joel in The Last of Us, Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid, Bioshock's Booker DeWitt, Uncharted's Sam Drake, and the list goes on and on (and on).
But if you just can't get enough Troy Baker in your videogames, happy days: Baker has announced his intention, via a new interview with Eurogamer, to start making the things himself. Baker says he's inspired by Abubakar Salim, who played Assassin's Creed's Bayek among other game and TV roles, before founding Surgent Studios. Its debut title, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, won a BAFTA and was nominated for a clutch of other awards.

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/finally-i-can-download-other-peoples-huge-honkin-enshrouded-bases-and-live-in-them-myself/
Survival game Enshrouded has one of the best and most flexible building systems ever, but there's always been one little drawback to crafting a grand castle or carving a cavernous lair: there's never been a great way to share those creations with the Enshrouded community apart from a few screenshots or a walkthrough tour video.
The latest Enshrouded update solves that problem with its new adventure sharing feature. If you've got a creation you're proud of, whether it's a mountaintop stronghold or an entire town you've restored, you can now upload it and let other players visit it. You're not just sending them a castle blueprint, either: you're sharing your entire version of Enshrouded's world.

I'm not the keeper of the grand "games with horses" spreadsheet but to whoever is: time to add Palia. The next expansion for the life sim MMO is adding one of those features players are always asking for in MMOs: mounts. Specifically: horses. I was expecting the stock-standard mounts implementation—a glorified 'go faster' button—but it sure looks like Palia's put enough thought into its horses to be worth a second glance by the chronically underfed equestrian gamers.

12 years after the original and with its themes more relevant than ever, anti-war game This War of Mine is getting a full remake

11 Bit Studios has revealed in its 2025 financial summary that it has two "completely new" and thus far unannounced games in development. It's also working on a "return to the studio's most important brands in a new, refreshed formula": An all-new Frostpunk game, and "a reimagining of the cult classic This War of Mine."
11 Bit said its financial situation is "stable," with the narrative-driven survival game The Alters selling 545,000 copies and Frostpunk 2 "approaching" 880,000 copies sold. "The Alters showed that we can build new, global brands, and we are consistently developing Frostpunk as a long-term franchise," 11 Bit CEO Przemysław Marszał said.
Similarly, 11 Bit's future strategy is a mix of old and new: A pair of unannounced brand new games, alongside a remake of the award-winning 2014 anti-war survival game This War of Mine and a Frostpunk game that Marszał said will expand the series "into a new genre."
>> Something is off in this article. This War of Mine can’t be 12 years old! I remember the news about it back when it laun… Oh. Dear God, how long I’ve been doing these news recaps?!

After 2 years of silence, an extraction shooter we liked back in 2022 for its 'impeccable vibes' suddenly springs back to life on Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/after-2-years-of-silence-an-extraction-shooter-we-liked-back-in-2022-for-its-impeccable-vibes-suddenly-springs-back-to-life-on-steam/
In the year 2022, PC Gamer's Morgan Park asked if the then-pre-release extraction shooter Marauders could "dethrone Escape From Tarkov with dieselpunk spaceships and impeccable vibes." The answer, we would later learn, was "no."
Marauders launched into early access in October 2022 and came out of the gate with impressive concurrent player numbers on Steam, particularly given that it's not a free to play game. But updates came to a halt in August 2024 with the launch of the Retribution update, and the early access notice on Steam now carries a warning that the game hasn't been updated for more than 20 months.
Well you can reset that timer, baby, because it turns out that Marauders isn't quite as dead as it appeared. A "production update" posted today says developers have been "fully focused on the game" all this time, and that "what started as a round of fixes grew into a much larger, necessary change and we have made the call to commit to it rather than push smaller updates in the meantime."

Despite microtransaction woes at launch, MMO sequel Aion 2 will go global this year

Aion 2, NCSoft's sequel to the original Aion set 200 years after the original game, launched in November of last year to some mixed opinions about its microtransaction schemes—that doesn't appear to've stopped the sequel from picking up steam, though. Literally, it'll be coming to Steam as part of a global release later this year.

Peter Molyneux's right about one thing: It's sad how no one seems to care about god games anymore

We're just a few hours out from the early access release of Masters of Albion, which creator and legendary hyperbolist Peter Molyneux is pitching as both his swansong and "redemption title." To mark the occasion, Molyneux recently took to YouTube to field questions from fans about his career, Masters of Albion, and where his god-game obsession stems from.
>> He also did an interview with the BBC where he talked about AI (not a fan) (link).
