SALES/PLAYER COUNTS & DEALS

Forza Horizon 6 has reportedly already sold 500k on Steam a month before launch, while my beloved Motorsport has crashed into a brick wall
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/racing/forza-horizon-6-has-reportedly-already-sold-500k-on-steam-a-month-before-launch-while-my-beloved-motorsport-has-crashed-into-a-brick-wall/
Ever since Forza's first foray into open-world racing back with Horizon in 2012, it's gone on to define the series, outpacing the original mainline Motorsport series. That's certainly not slowing down with Forza Horizon 6, which takes the racing festival to Japan after over a decade of fan requests. I was already on board when Playground Games revealed FH6 would return to the wristband career mode, but when PC Gamer's Shaun Prescott gave it a test drive earlier this month, describing its Japan map as the "series' best yet", I'm more hyped than ever.
And I'm not alone in that, clearly, as gaming market data firm Alinea Analytics suggests that Forza Horizon 6 has already sold over 500,000 copies on Steam alone so far—and it's still a month away from launch. That equates to nearly $30 million in gross revenue before considering console sales, according to their data. As for launch day on May 19, it suggests that it'll race past two million sales on Steam within its first 24 hours. For context, Forza Horizon 5 bagged over 10 million players in its first week, a record for Xbox Game Studios, so it's already making headway.

Windrose sails past 1 million copies sold in six days as it hits 200,000 concurrent players
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/windrose-sails-past-1-million-copies-sold-in-six-days-as-it-hits-200-000-concurrent-players/
Windrose, the latest survival-crafter to take Steam by storm, started selling like hot cakes the moment it launched—or, to be era-appropriate, like salt pork and bug-infested hardtack. It's continued to rake in the doubloons since launch, and in less than a week, has "plundered" the 1 million copies sold milestone.
The team at Kraken Express thanked players in a Steam community blog post, which also notes that the game recently peaked at 200,000 simultaneous players on the platform. "Your support for the game is absolutely astonishing, and your patience while we are working on fixes is truly heart-warming."
"We read your reviews and comments, watch your videos and streams, and sometimes, honestly, shed a pirate-y tear of happiness, because now when the game is out you share our dream of swashbuckling adventure," the post continues. "And there are boars, too, we know, but whatever does not send you flying into the nearest tree makes you stronger, right?

Pragmata has sold over 1 million copies in just 2 days, after 3 delays dragged out development by 4 years
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/pragmata-has-sold-over-1-million-copies-in-just-2-days-after-3-delays-dragged-out-development-by-4-years/
Capcom has announced that its brand-new dad-daughter space-shepherding action game, Pragmata, has already sold over one million copies in the two days since its launch on Friday. That's a pretty good start for a new project, let alone one "primarily by a team of younger Capcom developers", and that had suffered three delays to get here.

GOG has a promo I don’t recall posting about: the Fantasy & Medieval Promo features game with up to 89 or 91% discounts, depending on where you look at it, the home page or the promo page (that also has a much longer and french headline), and will last 10 days: https://www.gog.com/en/promo/20260420_fantasy_promo

Steam has all of this:

MODS, EMULATORS & FAN PROJECTS

PlayStation 3 Emulator, RPCS3, Gets Official 2026 PC Requirements
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/playstation-3-emulator-rpcs3-gets-official-2026-pc-requirements/
The team behind the best PlayStation 3 emulator, RPCS3, has released a brand new version of it. Moreover, the team has shared the official 2026 PC requirements for it. So, let’s take a look at them, shall we?
To run the emulator, PC gamers will at least need an Intel Core 2 Duo or an AMD Athlon 64 X2 with 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GT 420, an Intel Arc310, or an AMD Radeon HD 5450.
To get a gaming experience similar to that of a PS3, you will need an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or an Intel Core i5 10400 with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 2060 or an AMD Radeon RX 5600XT.
For optimal gaming, you will need an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X or an Intel Core i5 13600K with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 2060 or an AMD Radeon RX 5600XT. The team also recommends using an NVMe SSD. With this PC setup, you will run the PS3 games better than the real PlayStation 3 console.
Finally, for gaming at 4K, you will need an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 4070 or an AMD Radeon RX 7800XT.
>> I recall Jizz posting an article about the new requirements, but I couldn’t find it (not that I did a lot, to be honest), so, I'm posting it. Better safe than sorry. The article has a 10 minutes video about this.

Fans have turned the classic Tomb Raider into a side-scroller
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/fans-have-turned-the-classic-tomb-raider-into-a-side-scroller/
Now here is something truly amazing. Modders ‘Delca’ and ‘Trxye’ have turned the classic Tomb Raider game into a side-scroller. This is a real game, and the duo aims to release it for free in May 2026.
Going into more details, Tomb Raider: Side-Scroller Edition will allow you to experience the entire first Tomb Raider with a completely different perspective and gameplay.
Players will be able to run and explore the environments, swim, solve puzzles, and fight enemies. In total, the game will offer 11 levels that have been re-imagined.
To showcase what this project is all about, the duo released the following trailer. This trailer will give you an idea of what you can expect from it. So, be sure to watch it.
>> The graphics are still PS1 level, but it looks ok.

Here's that free fan remake of 1999's PlayStation-exclusive Medal of Honor you were looking for
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/heres-that-free-fan-remake-of-1999s-playstation-exclusive-medal-of-honor-you-were-looking-for/
Before Call of Duty, there was Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, and before Allied Assault, there was plain old Medal of Honor. Although EA's World War 2 shooter had its heyday storming the beaches of Normandy on PC, it was originally a PlayStation exclusive series, preceding Halo's popularisation of the genre on console by a whole two years.
I remember Medal of Honor being both clunky as hell and like nothing else I'd ever played when I first encountered it at the age of 11, and those memories came flooding back thanks to Medal of Honor: Retro Remake. Created by developer Elber88 and released for free on itch, it’s a ground-up rebuild of the 1999 original that finally brings the FPS to PC.
"I am an old fan of an [sic] original MOH 1999 and in the end of 2024 decided to 'restore' this game on PC platform with current-gen engine," writes Elber88 on the remake's itch page. In building the remake, Elber says that "all game logic [was] made from scratch", but the enemies and some core mechanical elements were taken from Allied Assault "to avoid extremely low-poly characters, animations etc."

A ludicrous Doom mod which adds 28 pilotable mechs just released after 2 years in development
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/a-ludicrous-doom-mod-which-adds-28-pilotable-mechs-just-released-after-2-years-in-development/
Ever since Godzilla first battled Mechagodzilla all the way back in 1974, it's been clear to everyone that nothing exists which cannot be made cooler by the inclusion of giant robots. This axiom is self-evident, so there's no need to ask a question like, "Would Doom be cooler if you could pilot a mech in it?" Thankfully, someone did anyway.
The proof is in the pudding, the pudding in this case being Redxone's MechDoomer: Rebooted—a souped-up take on a mod which gleefully jams Doom and MechWarrior together. It adjusts the UI, adds "mech-assault styled movement," and gives you a full suite of customizable weapon slots so you can stomp a round in the legendary FPS Battletech style.
The new 1.0 release features a whopping 28 mechs you can pilot, all of which are split among light, medium, heavy, and assault classes. The iconic Atlas is included alongside stuff like the Crab and Kit Fox, and it's impressive just how different the game looks through the lens of a swaying cockpit.
Some third-person gameplay is shown in the release trailer, and while the low-poly mechs are a little uncanny in Doom's sprite-filled labyrinths, seeing a Tarantula squash a horde of demons by goomba-stomping them into a torrent of gore is a joyous sight indeed. The description states the scale of these bots is "fully customizable," making the mod "compatible with all sorts of different level geometry."

Portal 2: Community Edition promises to take the game's modding potential to new heights, and it's out in open beta now
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/puzzle/portal-2-community-edition-promises-to-take-the-games-modding-potential-to-new-heights-and-its-out-in-open-beta-now/
Portal 2 is one of the easiest-to-recommend games in the entire medium, and part of that is down to the custom levels scene it's inspired for over a decade now. There are around a million on the game's Steam Workshop entry alone—and if you've ever tried modding it yourself and chafed at the game's limitations, you'll be pleased to learn about Portal 2: Community Edition, which released into open beta yesterday.
The announcement video is careful to clarify that this isn't a remake or an overhaul of Portal 2's core action or campaign, nor is it a campaign itself. Instead, it's a "community-maintained" build which adds new lighting tech, volumetrics, support for more detailed textures, custom campaign support with built-in UI, expanded scripting capabilities, and an overhaul to the Hammer map editor.
These things are possible thanks to Strata Source, a fork of the CS:GO engine, which P2:CE is built on and was used to make mind-bending Portal 2 mods like Portal: Revolution. You can find a breakdown of the changes in the announcement video, as well as a showcase of what people have done with it so far. The Steam page casually shows a custom level which squeezes all of Portal 1 into a singlemap, so I'm curious to see what modders cook up now that CE is available to everyone.

This hugely impressive Minecraft mod lets you build all manner of functioning vehicles, including planes, combine harvesters, and even airships
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/this-hugely-impressive-minecraft-mod-lets-you-build-all-manner-of-functioning-vehicles-including-planes-combine-harvesters-and-even-airships/
It takes a lot for a Minecraft mod to impress me these days, such is the abundance of third-party addons and expansions for Mojang's digital LEGO set. So it says a lot that the trailer for the recently released Create Aeronautics mod made me catch my breath a little bit. This huge addon lets players build and pilot fully functional vehicles across the game's angular landscapes, allowing you to construct anything from offroad vehicles to enormous airships.
An addon for Minecraft's already substantial Create mod, Create Aeronautics has three key strands that facilitate its vehicular construction. The first is what the modders refer to as "Simulated", the fundamentals of the mod that facilitate vehicular construction. These include new block types, redstone components and other necessary tools, like the ability to use slime to stick different components together. It basically gives Minecraft the kind of contraption-building tools you'd see in a game like Besiege.
The second element is the eponymous aeronautics section, which introduces the key components necessary for creating flying machines. These include propellor bearings that let you create prop planes and helicopters, burners for building hot air balloons, and special floating blocks designed to create lift. Alongside aerial vehicles, tools like propellers will also let you build powered boats and ships, meaning you're no longer restricted to using that implausibly fast wooden rowboat.
Finally, there's the "Offroad" section dedicated to creating terrestrial vehicles. This allows you to build engines, suspensions, and that rarest of phenomena in Minecraft's world, round(ish) wheels. As the name suggests, the main purpose of these tools is for creating all-terrain vehicles, but as shown in the trailer, you could also use them to build combine harvesters to mechanise your crop farming.
Create Aeronautics is available to download now. As the title suggests, you'll need the broader Create mod installed to play it, as well as Sable, a mod that adds a physics pipeline to Minecraft and allows groups of blocks to interact with one another.

The long part two of the Monday gaming news:

Last year's best climbing game was also a horror game, and it gets a big anniversary update today
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/last-years-best-climbing-game-was-also-a-horror-game-and-it-gets-a-big-anniversary-update-today/
I know that, for a lot of you, the obvious best climbing game of 2025 was Peak, the absurd going-up sim from Landfall that took the world by storm. But it's not my choice. Why? I have no friends preferred White Knuckle, the early access horror-climber from Dark Machine that tasked you with climbing out of a grimy, industrial environment really fast.
It's a good time, and I praised it back around when it got its early access release for "mechanics that are complex enough to feel rewarding when you nail it but simple enough that you don't trip over yourself (too much)." Well, we're now one year out from that time, and to celebrate, the game is getting a big honkin' anniversary update, out today.

I know all you pirates are busy with Windrose, but you should drop anchor and check out this new pirate-themed city builder
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/city-builder/i-know-all-you-pirates-are-busy-with-windrose-but-you-should-drop-anchor-and-check-out-this-new-pirate-themed-city-builder/
I'm aware all you pirates are busily scouring the Caribbean for Blackbeard and booty in survival game Windrose this week, but if I could just get your attention for a brief moment, perhaps by shouting something like "Avast!" and then pointing to a nearby island that has just appeared above the glimmering waves.
On that island is maybe the coolest pirate hideout I've ever seen, courtesy of the new pirate-themed city builder, Corsair Cove, announced today by Limbic Entertainment and publisher Hooded Horse. Lift your eyepatch and take a good look at the trailer.

Embark admits 'grinding for monetary value' isn't fun, so future Arc Raiders Expeditions will reward you for smashing bots instead
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/embark-admits-grinding-for-monetary-value-isnt-fun-so-future-arc-raiders-expeditions-will-reward-you-for-smashing-bots-instead/
Arc Raiders has many wonderful qualities that make it the most popular extraction shooter around, but its current Expeditions grind isn't one of them. Serving as Arc's take on the season wipe, Expeditions give players the option to reset their progress in exchange for permanent upgrades, like extra stash size and skill points.
Up until now, that process was a major resource grind that involved hoarding mountains of scrap to reach an arbitrary goal. For the next one, Embark is shaking things up.
"For the third Expedition, we're doing things a little differently—the big news being that Skill Points will be earned by dealing damage over the five day window, NOT stash value," the developer said in a blog post published today.

I've always wanted to fire the infinite cannons of a giant anime battleship, and this solo dev's giving me a chance on Steam later this year
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/ive-always-wanted-to-fire-the-infinite-cannons-of-a-giant-anime-battleship-and-this-solo-devs-giving-me-a-chance-on-steam-later-this-year/
Videogames have given me more opportunities to blow up titanic scifi battleships than I could ever hope to count. But I've rarely gotten the opportunity to experience the other side of that equation as the guy commanding the fleet's worth of cannons, laser batteries, and missile bays bristling across a single massive floating monolith.
One solo dev, however, is looking to provide us all a taste of scifi navy excess with Dreadnought Tartarus, a "semi-automated strategic simulation game centered around a single, colossal battleship," which is another way of saying "you get to play that part from anime space operas and mecha series where the space cruisers fill the screen with the wildest barrage of weapons fire that the visual arts can imagine."

Last Flag, the debut game from the studio founded by Imagine Dragons' lead singer, becomes the latest multiplayer shooter struggling to find an audience
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/last-flag-the-debut-game-from-the-studio-founded-by-imagine-dragons-lead-singer-becomes-the-latest-multiplayer-shooter-struggling-to-find-an-audience/
If 2026 has taught us anything, it's that convincing people to play your new multiplayer shooter is hard. The ill-fated Highguard came and went within the space of three months after initially strong player counts dropped off a cliff. And while Marathon appears to have more staying power—which is a mercy because it is superb—all signs suggest it hasn't been the roaring success needed to recoup its alleged $200 million budget.
Things are so tough that even being the lead singer of a world famous band can't guarantee your game an audience, as demonstrated by the release of Last Flag. Developed by Night Street Games—an indie studio founded by Dan and Mac Reynolds, the lead singer and manager of Imagine Dragons— Last Flag is a 5v5 multiplayer shooter themed around the classic capture-flag-game mode.

After 23 years, CCP is about to do the unthinkable: add a non-PvP zone to EVE Online
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/after-23-years-ccp-is-about-to-do-the-unthinkable-add-a-non-pvp-zone-to-eve-online/
For over two decades, EVE Online has been famous for two things: the astonishing player-driven stories it generates, and the cutthroat universe that acts as a foundation for those stories. PvP is as fundamental a part of EVE's universe as hydrogen is in our own, and whether you're the head of one of its megacorps or a newbie just starting out, buying into the game has been to accept the possibility that someone in the great beyond might make it their personal mission to ruin your day.
Yet modern EVE is not as forbidding as its reputation suggests. The MMO includes numerous "starter systems" where PvP against new players is generally discouraged and "Rookie griefing" outright prohibited. But it seems this esoteric mixture of rules and customs is not definitive enough for developer CCP. As such, EVE's next expansion will do what once seemed unthinkable, add a non PvP zone to the game.

Turtle WoW classic server announces shutdown after Blizzard wins injunction
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/world-of-warcraft/turtle-wow-classic-server-announces-shutdown-after-blizzard-wins-injunction/
Last week, popular World of Warcraft private server Turtle WoW got hit with a cease and desist from Blizzard after a judge ruled in the studio's favor regarding a copyright infringement suit filed last September. Court documents revealed that the two parties reached a settlement that hinged on "certain actions that are required to be taken by certain parties," and today, the other shoe dropped for anyone still playing the modded MMO: a forum post announced a complete shutdown of the project.

Owlcat reveals two new 40K companions, one for Rogue Trader and one for the upcoming Dark Heresy
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/owlcat-reveals-two-new-40k-companions-one-for-rogue-trader-and-one-for-the-upcoming-dark-heresy/
Owlcat's RPGs have a history of launching in a terrible state but improving significantly over time. When I replayed Rogue Trader last year, with the benefit of a bunch of patches and a couple of expansions, I had a much better time than I did when it was brand new and I hit a progress-blocking bug that meant I had to replay all of act one. But even then, when I told people it was finally a good time to jump in, the most vocal response was from people who would rather keep waiting.
And fair enough. Because we knew there would be even more to come, and that's what Owlcat is promoting now, with a character trailer revealing the companion being added in The Infinite Museion DLC. It's Eogann Februs, a tech-priest.
(...)
At the same time, Owlcat's just released a trailer showcasing a companion you can recruit in the playable alpha for Dark Heresy. Haymar Devos is a guardsman from the infamous death world of Catachan, which is basically the jungle from Predator stretched over an entire planet. Every single trooper recruited on Catachan is an '80s action-movie hero, including a Rambo analogue called Sly Marbo. Which is pretty rad.

Marathon's most popular shotgun is getting nerfed a second time, as Bungie worries it is 'eclipsing a lot of the other short range options that exist in the game'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/marathons-most-popular-shotgun-is-getting-nerfed-a-second-time-as-bungie-worries-it-is-eclipsing-a-lot-of-the-other-short-range-options-that-exist-in-the-game/
Since Marathon launched, one gun has dominated both the battlefield and the discourse. No, I don't mean the Biotoxic Disinjector, which while ferociously powerful, is unlikely to appear outside of Cryo Archive due to its rarity. I'm instead referring to the almighty WSTR shotgun, by far the best weapon to carry in your back pocket as you explore Tau Ceti IV
Marathon's double-barrelled delete key is so powerful that it has already been nerfed once, with a dramatic reduction in range making it virtually useless outside of close encounters. But it remains the most effective solution to any encounter where you can see the decals beneath an enemy runner's eyes.
Indeed, the WSTR's dominance of the secondary weapon slot has become a source of concern for Bungie, and as such they're planning to nerf the shotgun a second time. Come Tuesday, WSTR-wielding players will need to work a bit harder against players equipped with strong shields.

The sequel to flying city-builder Airborne Kingdom just hit 1.0 with a huge update and a 50% discount
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/city-builder/the-sequel-to-flying-city-builder-airborne-kingdom-just-hit-1-0-with-a-huge-update-and-a-50-percent-discount/
Airborne Kingdom was one of the early pioneers of what I've dubbed the "weird city builder" trend, one that takes the genre out of its realistic, SimCity-esque roots and plonks it on the back of a dinosaur or in a world populated by beavers. In Airborne Kingdom's case, the gimmick was building a flying city, and it executed that well enough to receive a score of 80% in our Airborne Kingdom review.
I'd lost track of what developer The Wandering Band had been up to since, because Steam's torrent of new games never ceases. But it turns out what it's been doing is making Airborne Empire, which takes the foundations of Airborne Kingdom and builds it out with a larger world and some light RPG elements. After four years of development and just over a year in Steam early access, Airborne Empire has formally released with a substantial 1.0 update.

I never want to play a Cleric in D&D, but 2026's best RPG stars one for a simple reason: 'I'm sorry to say they are just overpowered'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/i-never-want-to-play-a-cleric-in-d-and-d-but-2026s-best-rpg-stars-one-for-a-simple-reason-im-sorry-to-say-they-are-just-overpowered/
When I spoke to Christoffer Bodegård, developer of the running RPG of the year, Esoteric Ebb (which uses a modified form of D&D 5th Edition rules), I had to ask: Why a Cleric? The ubiquitous fantasy holy healers never feel like protagonist material to me—I'd much rather be a sneaky little Dick-Ass Rogue. There was a pretty straightforward answer: Clerics are OP, they can do a little bit of everything, and Man vs. God will never not make for primo literary fodder.
"They're overpowered," said Bodegård. "I'm sorry to say they are just overpowered." He revealed that even the earliest version of Esoteric Ebb that he had mocked up before Disco Elysium radically changed the game's direction still starred a Cleric and a goblin.

I thought this sci-fi mystery looked cool, but my interest dropped when I realized it's another multiplayer survival-crafting game
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/i-thought-this-sci-fi-mystery-looked-cool-but-my-interest-dropped-when-i-realized-its-another-multiplayer-survival-crafting-game/
The story teaser for Blind Descent seemed intriguing. It's presented as a log from a scientist on Mars whose communications are being blocked by alien technology. He's discovered a whole lost world under the surface of the planet, finding his way through the red vines that blocked his progress after being infected by a mutation-causing plant.
If you're the kind of person who hates it when a scientist just straight-up touches alien stuff I can see that sending you spare, but otherwise it's an atmospheric intro to a mysterious sci-fi game. And then I went to the store page and found out it's a multiplayer co-op survival game with crafting in it.

At long last, fishing will finally come to RuneScape: Dragonwilds tomorrow, so I'll wave goodbye to my other skills now
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/at-long-last-fishing-will-finally-come-to-runescape-dragonwilds-tomorrow-so-ill-wave-goodbye-to-my-other-skills-now/
RuneScape doesn't feel like RuneScape without the ability to spend hours of your life fishing. In fact, levelling that essential skill is a quintessential part of the experience, so when RuneScape: Dragonwilds released with no fishing element—I can't lie—I was incredibly disappointed. Fortunately, we don't have much longer to wait, and it has been revealed that fishing will come to Ashenfall on April 21.

Limited time only offer! You want to make some money? Buy some AMD and Intel shares today. They'll be worth a trillion USD+ in a year or two. Probably.

Their shares have gone up by quite a lot, yes. I don't know how long this bubble will last, but there always seems to be something new that keeps the industry on edge and shares on the rise, even if it doesn't make much sense.

I remember that years ago there was a user here that worked in the stock market. I don't remember his username, but I think he was british. Maybe he could understand why the market acts this way, or maybe even they are caught off guard sometimes.

On a more serious note, I do wish I had bought more Intel last June. Would have made out like a bandit.

Since AI agents are projected to increasingly consume more CPU juice, and the Nvidia ARM CPUs in Blackwell etc. likely won't be enough, yeah, that's going to be the next component to be rushed.

The QUESTER series will be delisted from Steam on April 24. The games are on a final sale, though it doesn't match the historical low. The games will be re-released under the METRO QUESTER label, and existing owners will get them from free upon release.
