And here’s part three of the gaming news:

Peak's dillydally update has added new activities to the airport, giving your friends more reasons to put off actually climbing the damn mountain
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sim/peaks-dillydally-update-has-added-new-activities-to-the-airport-giving-your-friends-more-reasons-to-put-off-actually-climbing-the-damn-mountain/
I'll be honest, the amount of time I've spent waiting around in a game while various friends get themselves ready probably exceeds the time I actually spend playing the game. With something like Peak, where you need to all be present at the very start of the game, the chances of everyone being ready at the time we've agreed to is next to none.
So, having ways to pass the time while you wait for someone to make a cup of tea, eat their dinner, or return from the heavy fog they've somehow disappeared into in the time it took for them to reply to a message and join the game, is essential.
However, the opportunities to pass time in the airport before you set off on your climbing adventure in Peak are incredibly limited. Or at least they were until now. You have a climbing wall, and aside from running up and down the travelator, you're stuck for any activities really. Luckily, the "Dillydally mini-update" has rolled out, adding two new games to the airport to keep you entertained until it's time to head off.

Nioh 3 is coming to PC and PS5 in February, according to an Amazon slip up
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/nioh-3-is-coming-to-pc-and-ps5-in-february-according-to-an-amazon-slip-up/
Nioh 3, the next installment in Team Ninja's brilliant soulslike series, seems to have had its release date spilled by Amazon Japan, as spotted by Gematsu. Thanks for the slip up, Amazon.

Counter-Strike 2 invents a new way to monetise guns and, hoo boy, people seem to hate it even more than crates and keys: 'I'm not paying 1000+ bucks for a skin!'

Last week brought a new update to Counter-Strike 2 that, among various tweaks to the game, added a brand-new way to obtain the game's latest set of gun skins. The set is called the Genesis Collection, though sadly Valve neglected the chance to name them all after Phil Collins songs, and can only be bought through an item called the Genesis Uplink Terminal: which is kind of a case, but not as we know it.

How To Watch the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct 2025
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/events-conferences/how-to-watch-the-pc-gaming-show-tokyo-direct-2025/
The PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct is nearly upon us, like a monster made entirely of teeth and claws gaming news with a hunger for human blood informing PC gamers about titles they might like to play.
The digital showcase, our first from Tokyo Game Show, is fit to burst with over 30 games showing up, a mix of world premieres, never-before-seen gameplay, and interviews filmed around the world. We're even filming interviews out at TGS itself, meaning that right now even I don't know what's going to appear in the show.

This price is wild when you think about the Legion Go 2 retailing for $1349!!!

Considering only that model is cheaper, I think Valve is emptying their stores of the LCD model now.

Hopefully Valve will come with a successor in the next couple years, as it's hardware starts getting seriously dated.

I think they've been doing sales for the LCD model for a while now, so either they have a lot of excess stock, or it's doing well enough and they're doing sales for it just because.

They need to have APU with same memory bus as Strix Halo. One of the biggest boat anchors around improved APU performance is memory bandwith. Strix Halo has a 256-bit memory bus instead of typical 128-bit bus. Doubling the memory bandwidth would do wonders for performance.

That would come with a marked increase in cost and board complexity.

AMD would be better of throwing more cache at the problem, which can be used for the CPU and GPU... They started that push with the A.I Max 395 chips to a degree in conjunction with a wider LPDDR5 interface to some impressive results... But those chips are expensive monsters with TDP starting at 45w.

A successor to the Z2 Extreme should have 8x Zen compact cores, 64MB of cache, 16+ RDNA4 CU's at a chunky clock with a 128bit memory interface running LPDDR5X at 8533Mhz offering 136GB/s of bandwidth which would be ideal for 1080P gaming.

Silent Hill f Mod removes the 30FPS cap from the cut-scenes
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/silent-hill-f-mod-removes-the-30fps-cap-from-the-cut-scenes
One of my biggest gripes with Silent Hill f is the ridiculous 30fps cap of the cut-scenes. For whatever reason, NeoBards Entertainment decided to lock the cut-scenes at 30FPS. While this may make sense on consoles, it does not on PC. And, thankfully, modder Lyall has released a mod that removes it.
Going into more details, the mod lets you skip intro logos and warnings. It also removes the 30fps cap in cutscenes, and it enables the console. Moreover, it adds support for narrower than 16:10 resolutions. On top of that, it disables the letterboxing/pillarboxing in cutscenes, and it fixes the cropped FOV.
>> The article has a couple of screenshots, but they’re not about this mod.

A modder has already removed all the fog from Silent Hill f and it makes Ebisugaoka look like quite the vacation spot
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/horror/a-modder-has-already-removed-all-the-fog-from-silent-hill-f-and-it-makes-ebisugaoka-look-like-quite-the-vacation-spot/
Silent Hill f finally releases to the masses tomorrow, but before everyone's even got their hands on NeoBard's new take on the Silent Hill series, one modder has managed to completely remove all the fog from the game.
Simply named No Fog, this mod, created by Fellow_Demo, strips all the fog from Ebisugaoka, but players can also use it to just "tone down" the fog as well. Seeing the before and after pictures next to one another, it's clear how much was lost to the fog, aesthetically speaking.
The images with no fog look brilliant. The town looks much more vibrant, which really helps you appreciate the quality of the graphics. It also strips away any eeriness and actually makes it look like a lovely, normal town that I'd love to visit, as long as none of the monsters are still lurking around.
>> There is one comparison picture.

Mod maker brings Skibidi Toilet to Borderlands 4 for one simple reason: To spite the narrative director who said he'd 'cry real tears' if the game shipped with it
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/mod-maker-brings-skibidi-toilet-to-borderlands-4-for-one-simple-reason-to-spite-the-narrative-director-who-said-hed-cry-real-tears-if-the-game-shipped-with-it/
One of the best things about PC gaming is mods. They let people do things with their games that developers, for whatever reason, couldn't, didn't, and/or really wish you wouldn't. Sometimes they're practical things, like the recently-released Dying Light: the Beast mod that reduces annoying zombie grabs—and sometimes, well, they're not.
A good example of a mod that was not created to solve a practical problem is Epic's Skibidi Toilet, which creator EpicNNG said was made specifically "to spite Samuel Winkleclank." That would be Borderlands 4 narrative director Sam Winkler, who apparently brought this upon himself by saying Borderlands 4 would cut back on the "toilet humor" of Borderlands 3.
"If the word 'skibidi' ships in the game under my watch I'm gonna cry real tears," Winkler proclaimed fatefully.
Careful what you wish for, or vocally wish not to happen as the case may be, because yes, it is real.
Winkler, to his credit, seems to be taking it well.
His torment isn't likely over, though. In the same post in which Winkler said he wouldn't allow Skibidi Toilet in Borderlands 4, he also wrote, "Paul Tassi joked that we were gonna have a gun called Hawk 2A and a fellow dev asked me if it was real and I wanted to put my hand down the sink grinder."
>> There is one screenshot of the mod and two Twitter (f*ck X) screenshots.

Thursday gaming news, part two:

Helldivers 2 devs say players are 'absolutely right to expect better' after latest update's crashes and stumbles—promise mid-October patch and 'better communication'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/helldivers-2-devs-say-players-are-absolutely-right-to-expect-better-after-latest-updates-crashes-and-stumbles-promise-mid-october-patch-and-better-communication/
Helldivers 2 is in the "it's so over!" part of the chart again, unfortunately. Despite its latest patch being a ton of fun, the entire engine is also buckling and groaning under the weight of extreme technical debt.
(...)
Well, Arrowhead has noticed your concerns. In a recent post to the Helldivers 2 Discord, community manager Baskinator relays: "We know many of you have been experiencing issues, including performance drops, stability hiccups, freezes, and the annoying audio bugs.
"We’ve seen the feedback across Discord, forums, Reddit and our dashboards. You’ve been loud, clear, and absolutely right to expect better. We also recognise that our recent updates haven’t hit the mark, and our silence hasn’t helped. That’s on us. We read all of it, and we are hard at work creating a roadmap to address this."

Payday 2 gets a new DLC subscription service, and it's a pretty good deal but a lot of players are mad anyway

Monster Hunter Wilds' FF14 crossover update and Omega hunt lands on Monday, but we're still waiting until December for those much-needed performance improvements

During its pre-TGS showcase stream earlier today, Capcom announced that the next major Monster Hunter Wilds update, featuring Final Fantasy 14 collaboration content, will launch on Monday, September 29. First revealed back in August, Title Update 3 will add Eorzea-themed hunts, equipment, and cosmetics, which—while appreciated—still leaves Wilds' glaring performance issues largely unaddressed.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 devs 'straight up turned down' skin deals with 'big, big brands' following Tactical Beavis backlash
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/call-of-duty/call-of-duty-black-ops-7-devs-straight-up-turned-down-skin-deals-with-big-big-brands-following-tactical-beavis-backlash/
In 2023, our Morgan Park wrote about the phenomenon of Cosmetic Uglification, in which shooters of the modern era are inevitably swallowed by a rancid mire of crossover skins until they've lost all semblance of a cohesive visual identity. In the years since, things have only become more dire, culminating in Black Ops 6 reaching the damning aesthetic nadir of Tactical Beavis.
Thankfully, the higher powers doing the decisionmaking in the shooter market have finally clocked that a lot of people hate this shit. In an interview with Dexerto's CharlieIntel, Treyarch senior director of production Yale Miller said Activision has cancelled crossover skin deals to focus on cosmetics that "make sense for Black Ops 7."

Wolverine claws more people in the head in the new Marvel's Wolverine trailer than I think he did in all the comics I read as a kid
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/wolverine-claws-more-people-in-the-head-in-the-new-wolverine-trailer-than-i-think-he-did-in-all-the-comics-i-read-as-a-kid/
I'm no prude, I promise—but I was honestly a bit surprised the new trailer for Marvel's Wolverine is so, like, bloody. Wow.
I realize Logan has razor-sharp claws that snikt out of his hands, and his whole deal is using them to cut people up into multiple pieces. I also know a couple of the Marvel movies have gone deep into R-rated territory and shown him popping his claws through people's domes. I somehow just wasn't expecting the game to be quite as graphic as it is.

We finally saw ZA/UM's Zero Parades in action and even though it's extremely Disco Elysium, the protagonist couldn't be more different
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/we-finally-saw-za-ums-zero-parades-in-action-and-even-though-its-extremely-disco-elysium-the-protagonist-couldnt-be-more-different/
It's true: If you squint at the gameplay footage of ZA/UM's Zero Parades, all you'll see is Disco Elysium with a different coat of paint. It's set in an isometric city covered in rust and filth, is intensely detailed with surreal art, and sticks all its dialogue on the right side of the screen.
However, the Disco Elysium comparisons don't seem to apply to protagonist Hershel Wilk, who appears to be a relapsed spy called back in to assemble a squad. I don't think that you'll be waking up hungover and naked in your hotel room at the start of Zero Parades. Hershel, the two off-screen characters in the State of Play trailer explain, hasn't been around for five years, but is still considered one of the best.

PSA: Don't turn off motion blur in Silent Hill F unless you want some weird visual glitches
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/horror/psa-dont-turn-off-motion-blur-in-silent-hill-f-unless-you-want-some-weird-visual-glitches/
Though I did notice traversal stuttering when I played Silent Hill F, the biggest technical issue I had was unrelated to the framerate. On a semi-regular basis I'd see everything suddenly shrink to fit the top-left quarter of the screen, except for the UI, with a flickering smear of colors filling the rest of my view. Others on the team didn't experience this bug, but I saw it pop up all the way through my time in haunted Ebisugaoka.
Turns out my habit of switching off motion blur without even thinking about it whenever I see it in the options menu is the problem, which I wish I'd known 20 hours ago when I started the game. Leave motion blur on and apparently you'll never experience this particular glitch.
>> The same problem is mentioned in the DSOGaming mod article, with two screenshots showing the same effect.

Despite all appearances, upcoming F2P open-world RPG Ananta isn't a gacha game—only charging for cosmetics and furniture
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/despite-all-appearances-upcoming-f2p-open-world-rpg-ananta-isnt-a-gacha-game-only-charging-for-cosmetics-and-furniture/
I wrote about Ananta yesterday, and while I'm all for its slurry of genres and inspirations, I'm eating humble pie as I write this one. I have thoroughly and completely judged a book by its cover.
Despite having all the hallmarks of a Zenless Zone Zero, or a Genshin Impact—that is to say, being a free-to-play RPG with cute anime girls in it—Ananta won't actually be a character-based Gacha game.
That's per a news story by Famitsu (thanks, Automaton) discussing its upcoming October issue. Relieving me of a bit of my embarrassment is the fact that the magazine itself also seems surprised, here's a quote (via machine translation):

Remember that great Friday the 13th game that got shuttered? The same studio is doing it all again, except this time it's Halloween
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/remember-that-great-friday-the-13th-game-that-got-shuttered-the-same-studio-is-doing-it-all-again-except-this-time-its-halloween/
Developer Illfonic last month announced a game based on 1978 horror classic Halloween, and now we've got a look at it. The game looks a lot like the studio's own (excellent) Friday the 13th adaptation and is set in the small town of Haddonfield, recreated with real period style. It's primarily an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game, where the masked killer Michael Myers hunts down four residents, though this time around there will also be a singleplayer component recreating scenes from the film.

I have to say that I'm surprised that none of the new games announced or trailers became a new thread on the site. But hey we got one about d*cks' size and age...

I want to see the real world performance. Synthetic tests are nice, but I like to see how they translate in practice.

That's been the Achilles heel of all chip manufacturers... They claim they are competitive or can beat the Intel and AMD alternative... But it's only in a few edge cases like synthetic benchmarks or something taking advantage of the extended instructions in a few productivity scenarios.

For general purpose computing, AMD and Intel have always been a step ahead of other chip companies... The higher TDP's, wide front and back end with chunky caches backed up by a low latency and quick memory subsystem is hard to beat.
