Blizzard plans to revive WoW Classic Hardcore characters 'at our sole discretion', after DDOS attack puts major streamer guild OnlyFangs in the ground
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/world-of-warcraft/blizzard-plans-to-revive-wow-classic-hardcore-characters-at-our-sole-discretion-after-ddos-attack-puts-major-streamer-guild-onlyfangs-in-the-ground/
World of Warcraft's Classic Hardcore is sort of the ideal streamer game—high stakes that can manufacture some top-tier drama, an MMO everyone and their dog has probably played at some point, and a thick layer of nostalgia to keep the whole thing fuelled. Which is why OnlyFangs, a hardcore guild composed almost entirely of big-name streamers and YouTubers, has been doing just that.
Alas, some nerd(s) with a botnet somewhere has made it their mission to ruin everyone's fun with a DDOS attack—one that saw most of OnlyFangs slain during their Blackwing Lair run. In case you don't know what a DDOS attack is, it's where a server is overwhelmed by automated traffic all at once. Such things are sadly routine in our modern era, especially since DDOS providers will target large games to advertise their services.

He did, however, mention that if Blizzard happened to roll back the deaths that the game would be back on—and wouldn't ya know it, that's exactly what Blizzard is doing. In a post to the official forums, community manager Kaivax writes:

'Never thought I'd go back' Helldivers 2 players steel themselves to return to the site of its most infamous battle, Malevelon Creek
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/never-thought-id-go-back-helldivers-2-players-steel-themselves-to-return-to-the-site-of-its-most-infamous-battle-malevelon-creek/
Malevelon Creek is burned into the memory of every true Super Earth patriot. Helldivers 2's dingy jungle planet became known as 'Robot Vietnam' as players banded together in their thousands to defend it from a massive Automaton assault. It was the first time the Helldivers 2 community picked up the game's live-service meta-narrative and ran with it, earning themselves the nickname 'Creekers' and a commemorative cape designed by developer Arrowhead to memorialise the event.
Now, the grizzled veterans of the creek are spinning up Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower in their Hellpods' holotape decks, steeling themselves for a return to this infamous battlefield. Having failed Super Earth's most recent major order, the Helldivers are currently being pushed back by the Automaton Incineration Corps—robot units that specialise in dealing fiery death to humanity. According to Arrowhead's most recent in-game update, the next target of the machines is "old industrial assets in the Severin Sector, where the Automatons first emerged."

Second Steam listing this year found hiding 'new and clever' malware. This time through a fake demo link on developer's website
https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/second-steam-listing-this-year-found-hiding-new-and-clever-malware-this-time-through-a-fake-demo-link-on-developers-website/
We are once again reminding you to be careful out there, after users found another Steam game acting as a front for malware. This is the second game we've seen hiding malicious intent on Steam's storefront this year, and though both games have been taken down, it's worth being extra cautious around unknown listings.
According to The Gamer, Sniper: Phantom's Resolution, or Phatnom's if you go by the game's logo, was listed as a fairly typical looking FPS where players would be "navigating hostile environments and face moral dilemmas," all set "in a world where justice and survival collide." I suppose that's one way to describe downloading and dealing with Malware.

Monster Hunter Wilds' first title update is overflowing with new stuff: A long-awaited Grand Hub, Arch-tempered Monsters, Arena Quests, and most importantly, fashion
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/monster-hunter-wilds-first-title-update-is-overflowing-with-new-stuff-a-long-awaited-grand-hub-arch-tempered-monsters-arena-quests-and-most-importantly-fashion/
Monster Hunter Wilds just had its first title update stream—which you can watch above—and it's absolutely rammed with content that's sure to tickle series vets pink. Capcom seems keen to have the game hit the ground running. The update will be released April 4, though for exact details, you can check out our handy roadmap post.
First up, as we've been aware of for a while, Mizutsune'll be dropping in to give you a rather violent bubble bath—alongside some choice armour sets from her hide, buffing Wilds' real endgame: Fashion. The hunt will be available for Hunter Rank (HR) 21 players by talking to Kanya in the Scarlet Forest.
>> Another bit: Lagiacrus is coming to the game.

Tony Hawk apparently intervened to get Bam Margera into Pro Skater 3+4: 'No, you're gonna do it'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sports/major-skating-podcast-claims-tony-hawk-intervened-to-get-bam-margera-into-pro-skater-3-4-no-youre-gonna-do-it/
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 remake will nosegrind onto PC this summer, but when publisher Activision revealed the game's list of skaters returning to the overhauled duology, there was one notable omission. Bam Margera, famous for appearing in shows like Jackass and Viva La Bam as well as for his presence as a playable character in Tony Hawk, was the only skater missing from the original lineup of the two games.
Now though, it's been reported that Margera will appear in the remake, and moreover, that his addition is due to a last-minute demand by Tony Hawk himself.

@JEMC The reason the MSI Power Supply issue is being highlighted is that shows a pattern of behavior from MSI regarding AMD. Despite it being inferior, more power hungry, with less stable drivers, they chose an ARC Alchemist based APU for the original MSI Claw. They were late to the party with the RX 7000 series and only produced a couple of cards that reused the cooler designs from their RX 6000 series cards. AFAIK, they didn't produce many of those. They aren't producing any RX 9000 Series cards. Based on how they are operating, if Intel hadn't completely crapped the bed, I serious question what type of motherboard support they'd have for AMD.

From what I've read, their motherboards have gone downhil in terms of quality in recent years, both for Intel and AMD.

The Claw is certainly an interesting case, and it could be because the result of an anti-AMD bias, but it can also be the result of a confluence of two situations: MSI being late to the handheld PCs party and Intel not wanting to be left behind in that segment. I personally think it was a case of Intel paying MSI to put their chips in the device more than anything else. But I have no proof.

Its GPU division did the bare minimum on AMD 7000 cards and that hurt them. Skipping the 9000 ones will also hurt them. But it's not like their Nvidia cards are that great. I've seen some reviews and their cards are usually the ones with the worst thermals because of their coolers.

The power supply thing is new and yes, it seems anti-AMD given that no current GPU needs 2x16-pin connectors and build with two or more high end Nvidia GPUs will require more powerful PSUs. But, as I said, it's not that big of a deal because all the other brands still provide the necessary ports and are either better known or have better reputation.

I think that even since before their president fell off from a building, MSI has been making dubious decisions and it's putting itself into a corner from which it will be hard for them to come out. It won't surprise me if we read that they'll be shutting down in the next 5-10 years.

I'm sorry what!? Like seriously, that gives the same vibe of the rich Russians that disagree with Putin "accidentally" falling from windows to their death.

Those of you still on Win10 and behind in terms of updates, be careful with the latest one:

The latest Windows 10 update causes headaches for some users
https://www.club386.com/the-latest-windows-10-update-causes-headaches-for-some-users/
Windows 10 22H2 Patch Tuesday security update released on March 11 is causing problems for many users, resulting in broken machines in some cases. Set to address 15 vulnerabilities, two of which involve critical remote code execution, the KB5053606 does unfortunately bring new bugs with it.

To begin with, some users are simply unable to install the update, receiving error code 0x80070020 during installation. There are ways to force the update through command lines and batch files, but your mileage may vary and by the sounds of things, you might want to hang fire. If your machine is affected by the installation bug, you may try downloading the KB5053606 via Microsoft’s update catalogue and install it manually.

Unfortunately, the lucky few who managed to install it were faced with even more problematic bugs such as blue screens, black screens after reboot, and random crashes resulting in system restarts. Some have complained about app icons disappearing from their taskbar, whereas others were surprised to see all their desktop customisation reverted to factory settings. On the professional side, users have noticed programs crashing, issues with Citrix, and slow Print Spooler operation. While some of these may not be linked to this update, the timing is questionable, to say the least.

The Wednesday news:

SALES/PLAYER COUNTS & DEALS

Forget REPO, Monster Hunter Wilds and Assassin's Creed Shadows, Steam's current global top seller is an early access game about managing a drug empire
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/life-sim/forget-repo-monster-hunter-wilds-and-assassins-creed-shadows-steams-current-global-top-seller-is-an-early-access-game-about-managing-a-drug-empire/
The last couple of months have been packed with massive games. Monster Hunter Wilds, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Assassin's Creed Shadows, Split Fiction, and Fragpunk have all proved enormously popular with players, and let's not forget the leftfield indie smash that is REPO. But which of these games has the fattest stacks this week—which of them occupies that coveted number one spot on Steam's global top sellers list?
Well, right now, the answer is 'none of them', as they've all been beaten to the top by a game about building and managing your own drug empire. Schedule I released onto Steam yesterday, and having accrued over 2,000 'Overwhelmingly Positive' reviews within 24 hours, is currently sitting pretty as Steam's no.1 digital kingpin.
Schedule I puts players in the role of a "small time drug dealer" who arrives in the town of Hyland Point without so much as a spliff to call their own. From these lowly beginnings, you'll "build your drug empire from the ground up" and "contend against intensifying law enforcement and deadly cartel competitors to expand your empire and reach the peak of the underworld."

Here's that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 mod that turns everyone into skeletons you asked for
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/heres-that-kingdom-come-deliverance-2-mod-that-turns-everyone-into-skeletons-you-asked-for/
Less than a month ago, the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 modding community was turning everyone in the game into perfectly round balls of flesh. But fashions change quickly in the medieval world. Fat is out and thin is in, courtesy of this mod that transforms every KCD 2 character into an actual skeleton.
"Here's a mod that can be both funny and scary", writes modder erdeminofff about Skeleton Mod—Transform Everyone's Body into a Skeleton. In case the title isn't clear enough, the mod replaces everyone's character model in the game, including protagonist Henry, into a neatly articulated assemblage of bones.
There is one crucial extra detail that is key to the mod's brilliance, however, namely that it only replaces the character's body. They still wear the same clothes and keep their hair, including facial hair like beards. This is why, for me, the mod leans firmly into "funny" territory. Erdeminofff provided a bunch of screenshots of the mod in action, and every single one is a winner.

This mod turns Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth into a classic Yakuza action brawler
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/this-mod-turns-like-a-dragon-infinite-wealth-into-a-classic-yakuza-action-brawler/
In December 2023, we shared a mod for Yakuza: Like a Dragon that turned it into a classic Yakuza action brawler. And today, we are happy to report that a similar mod is available for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
For those unaware, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a turn-based RPG. And that’s something that put off a number of die-hard Yakuza fans. You see, the Yakuza series started as an action brawler. And, thanks to this mod, you can experience Infinite Wealth as a true classic action Yakuza game.
Like A Brawler 8 will let you juggle combos, features mortal reversals, and will allow you to fight alongside your party members. Moreover, it allows you to put out weapons during combat.
Created by ‘Jhrino’, the mod is based on his previous real-time action combat mod for Yakuza: Like a Dragon. However, this isn’t a mere port of it. Instead, it features major tweaks and enhancements.
This is a must-have mod for all Yakuza fans. Even if you have finished Infinite Wealth, this mod will allow you to experience it in a completely different way. I seriously cannot praise it enough. This could have easily passed as an official optional game/combat mode. So, kudos to the modder for creating something this cool.

Wednesday news, the second part:

Random characters kept swearing in Obsidian's font-obsessed murder-mystery when its procedural error system ran amok: 'Naughtiness abounded'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/adventure/random-characters-kept-swearing-in-obsidians-font-obsessed-murder-mystery-when-its-procedural-error-system-ran-amok-naughtiness-abounded/
Pentiment is a very, very good videogame, and one of the most interesting things Obsidian's put out this decade (though I liked Avowed quite a lot). Now, we're sufficiently far enough past its release that people like director Josh Sawyer—a name you'll recognise from Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, and an all-timer Dolly Parton cover—are out and about giving GDC talks about what it was like making it. Sweary, it turns out.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 won't have typical RPG romantic relationships, but it will feature 'romantic feeding'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines-2-wont-have-typical-rpg-romantic-relationships-but-it-will-feature-romantic-feeding/
Your standard RPG romantic interludes probably wouldn't make much sense in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. You're not some adventurer, hero, or even an anti-hero. You are Phyre, an old monster who spends their unlife drinking blood, killing without mercy and plotting until the sun comes up.
But that doesn't mean romance is completely out of the question.

Ubisoft says don't compare Assassin's Creed Shadows' success to Valhalla: The latter launched in Covid's 'perfect storm' and feedback on platforms 'less affected by review bombing' is stellar
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/assassins-creed/ubisoft-says-dont-compare-assassins-creed-shadows-success-to-valhalla-the-latter-launched-in-covids-perfect-storm-and-feedback-on-platforms-less-affected-by-review-bombing-is-stellar/
Assassin's Creed Shadows is doing very well. Incredibly well. You wouldn't believe how well it's doing. But despite it all, it's not doing quite as well as AC Valhalla did back in November 2020—Shadows is the second-biggest launch in the series' long history, not the first.
But per an internal Ubisoft email seen by IGN, the company's telling employees that it's not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison to compare Shadows and Valhalla. "Valhalla launched under extraordinary conditions," says Ubi's internal comms, smack-dab in the middle of "widespread lockdowns and brand-new console hardware."
>> Makes complete sense. Just like the next Animal Crossing won’t do as well as the last one for the same reasons.

Former Bethesda dev who quit Starfield to go solo says it's 'much less stressful as an indie' without daily meetings or 'office politics': it's 'very refreshing to just care about the game'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/former-bethesda-dev-who-quit-starfield-to-go-solo-says-its-much-less-stressful-as-an-indie-without-daily-meetings-or-office-politics-its-very-refreshing-to-just-care-about-the-game/
Even if you haven't yet played Nate Purkeypile's most recent game, "heavy metal horror" hunting game The Axis Unseen, you've probably played at least one of his games at some point.
Purkeypile, founder of Just Purkey Games, worked on BloodRayne 2, Aeon Flux, and Metroid Prime 3, then spent a full 14 years at Bethesda Game Studios where he was a lead artist and world artist on games like Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76.
During the development of Starfield, however, Purkeypile left Bethesda to create his own studio. I caught up with him at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last week, and asked about his experience of going from a team of over 500 to a studio that is pretty much just him.
>> That’s cool, but not having a salary would be an equal or greater cause of stress to most people.

Blizzard co-founder Mike Morhaime's new company is putting Sea of Thieves-style shenanigans in space with a new crew-based shooter
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/blizzard-co-founder-mike-morhaimes-new-company-is-putting-sea-of-thieves-style-shenanigans-in-space-with-a-new-crew-based-shooter/
After leaving the company in 2019, former Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime announced in 2020 that he'd founded Dreamhaven, a new game publisher seeking to "reimagine the studio model." In 2024, Secret Door—the first of Dreamhaven's two in-house studios staffed by Blizzard veterans—revealed Sunderfolk, a tabletop-inspired tactical RPG. Today, in a showcase presented by The Game Awards, we've gotten our first look at what Moon Shot, Dreamhaven's second studio, has been working on behind the scenes.

Pacific Drive developers change their mind: A year after refusing to give it mid-run saves, it's getting mid-run saves
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/pacific-drive-developers-change-their-mind-a-year-after-refusing-to-give-it-mid-run-saves-its-getting-mid-run-saves/
I like Pacific Drive an awful lot—87 hours into it so far, so says Steam—but there's one thing about it that's always kind of irritated me: The lack of a mid-run save feature. I'm hardly alone in that feeling, as a quick dig through Reddit or the Steam forums will reveal, but the good news for all of us in that boat is that a proper mid-run "suspend and quit" feature is finally on the way.

Don't worry—there's no quiz. Hamatsu followed up the question with an answer.

After 23 years of making Dwarf Fortress, even its creator is still 'terrified' of drowning all his dwarves with aquifers: 'Part of the problem is we are just not good at videogames'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sim/after-23-years-of-making-dwarf-fortress-even-its-creator-is-still-terrified-of-drowning-all-his-dwarves-with-heavy-aquifers-part-of-the-problem-is-we-are-just-not-good-at-videogames/
In Dwarf Fortress, aquifers are a scourge. They're layers of subterranean, water-bearing rock that continually, endlessly leak when breached by dwarven miners. They can be managed and even exploited with careful construction, but in my experience, their main utility is proving that—no matter how competent at Dwarf Fortress I might get—I'm only one overlooked, unsealed tile away from a disaster I'll only notice once the dwarves in that quarter are already neck-deep in floodwater.
I might struggle with the occasional unplanned water feature, but I'm apparently in good company. In an interview with PC Gamer at GDC 2025, Dwarf Fortress co-creator Tarn Adams told me he's still terrorized by aquifers after building the game for more than two decades.

The Witcher 4 won't be out until sometime in 2027 at the soonest, CD Projekt says
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/the-witcher-4-wont-be-out-until-sometime-in-2027-at-the-soonest-cd-projekt-says/
The Witcher 4 doesn't have a release date yet, although it's a safe assumption that it remains a long way off. The real optimists out there might be hoping that it'll be out sometime before the end of 2026—that's nearly two years away, after all—but I'm sorry to say that CD Projekt threw a bucket of cold water on that thought during today's fiscal year 2024 earnings presentation, saying definitively that it ain't gonna happen.
>> And CD Projekt won’t use AI to make it, but not for the reasons you may think.

When you think of the best games of 2022, what springs to mind? Elden Ring. Vampire Survivors. Persona 5 Royal. Marvel's Midnight Suns, Teardown, Card Shark, Monster Hunter Rise, the list goes on.
But the list is wrong. You're wrong. Our Game of the Year Awards were wrong. All wrong. It's Placid Plastic Duck Simulator, which was the one of the five best-reviewed games on Steam in 2022, which still has a 95.36% rating, and which was a game about plastic ducks floating around while you watch.

Despite being the poster faction for Total War: Warhammer 3, actually playing the Russian-inspired Kislevites in Creative Assembly’s ever-expansive strategy sandbox has always been a bit contentious. The pain-points went beyond mere frostbite, with the fiddly political back-and-forth between the Ice Court and the Great Orthodoxy putting a chilling effect on those wanting to play as any of Kislev’s fractious factions.
It has been a long time coming, but update 6.1 yesterday included a major mechanical overhaul for Kislev that extends through all its core mechanics and even as far as changing how you play its DLC. You can check out the full (and very, VERY extensive patch notes here), but the main thing is the replacement of the political race between the Court and Orthodoxy. Instead, every Kislev faction can choose which side to align with and unlock faction-specific boons and upgrades.

No Man’s Sky lets you unearth ancient, angry mechs in the astro-archaeology filled Relics update

While October might have been a better time to introduce spooky scary skeletons to No Man’s Sky, I don’t think anything is ever going to stop Hello Games in their quest to turn their once-bare-bones space sandbox into the home of all things to all people.
The Relics update, which rolled out today, adds a whole bundle of archaeological and paleontology-themed content to the universe, including alien fossils to unearth and showcase in your own private museum. Plus, the occasional piece of cursed ancient machinery that’ll try to murder you, as you can see in the trailer below.

'Ok, so dragon builds are a thing now': galaxy-brained Helldivers 2 player incinerates a bile titan with a hover pack and a flamethrower

As a weary veteran of Helldivers 2's galactic war, I thought I'd seen it all. I've seen helldivers choke to death on infinite gas bombs. I've seen bile titans brought down by yeeting a charger through them. But technology evolves rapidly in war, and a recent addition to Super Earth's arsenal has unlocked whole new feats of valour from its citizens.

Publishers 'don't want to be anywhere near' Grand Theft Auto 6 when it launches: 'It's proving to be very stressful'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/grand-theft-auto/publishers-dont-want-to-be-anywhere-near-grand-theft-auto-6-when-it-launches-its-proving-to-be-very-stressful/
Grand Theft Auto 6 is still months away from launch, if not longer, but it's already causing ripples in the games industry. Numerous major publishers are fretting over precisely when Rockstar's latest crime epic will arrive, so they can schedule their games around its release and thus avoid the financial black hole they believe it will create.
These reports come from newly minted podcast The Game Business (via Eurogamer), hosted by former gamesindustry.biz editor Christopher Dring. Dring spoke to numerous individuals in prominent positions at various publishers, and while none of them would put their names on the record, they all shared similar anxieties about the impact Grand Theft Auto 6 might have on their businesses.

Well after hearing about all this bad windows 10 news. I am happy I updated to 11.

And that's a perfectly fine option. Just one thing: in case you haven't done it yet, don't install the 24H2 update. That one broke so many things in Win11 that makes you wonder what the F was the Msoft Q&A team doing.

Those of you still on Win10 and behind in terms of updates, be careful with the latest one:

The latest Windows 10 update causes headaches for some users

This update caused some issues with OBS on my 2019 gaming desktop, took me a couple of hours to find a work around which I'm annoyed at.

Well, that sucks, and I'm sorry for you. You're still able to post videos on your channel, so the work around works.
