Another generation, another rumor of 30-40% Zen IPC uplift debunked :D now watch Blackwell's rumors go the same way. People never learn.

I'm really tempted to get the ROG Ally X as my first Windows-handheld (complementary to my Steam Deck OLED + Switch OLED).

My main complain of the other ROG Ally models always was the mediocre battery life and they now doubled the capacity!

Sure, it gets 10% heavier by that, but it's still a lot lighter than the Legion Go and in the ballpark of my Steam Deck LCD.

The ergonomic improvements (rounded edges of the case, sticks, d-pad...) and 50% more (and faster) RAM are welcome and the microSD-card-slot is (probably) fixed.

Even if the microSD-card-slot should fail after a few years, you can go crazy and upgrade the SSD up to 8 TB.
M2.2280 SSDs are usually much cheaper per TB than M2.2230 SSDs.

I don't plan to use it docked with an eGPU... but thanks to USB4.0/Thunderbolt such a solution should be also much cheaper than using the proprietary port of the old models.

But if you plan to use the ROG Ally X with an eGPU... get an Nvidia-eGPU to avoid Radeon driver conflicts between the internal and external GPU... thanks to The Phawx for that tip!

Here some more infos from the whore's mouth (did I use that phrase right?)

It is tempting but I'll wait till post launch. The original had SDcard problems and I wanna make sure the new one is good since it's also more expensive. It does seem to fix a lot of issues and the software has certainly matured by now so the experience should be a lot better.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Not bad, but not that great coming from Zen 4. There's only so much you can do with a similar node. 9800X3D will be the one to wait for gamers I guess.

They cherry picked a specific performance metric and tried to pass it off as indicative of overall performance.

Does anyone know if PSVR2 seems like a sensible approat to VR on PC? Pricing, quality (for the price)? I think at least some VR equipment has required cameras of some sort (or something), but apparently that's not a thing with PSVR2, correct? At the moment, I'm thinking PSVR2 might finally look like a somewhat sensible way to get into VR (I don't want to get involved with Meta, and I don't want to pay like 800+ € either).

If no one knows, I'll just look into it more, so don't worry about it. Heck, I'll probably look into it anyway, but thought I'd ask around here for some thoughts.

Some PSVR2 key features, like HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback (other than rumble), are not available when playing on PC.

Without these features its only unique selling point is better blacks due to OLED, the rest can't impress in 2024, especially for €600 + €60 for the adapter box. Also the compatibility to PCVR games is probably a hit and miss, especially the controller compatibility.

My HP Reverb G2 costed €534 at launch in 2020 (similar resolution, similar lenses, much more comfortable to wear, bigger sweetspot, but worse controller tracking). Today I wouldn't recommend it any more, since Microsoft is killing WMV support soon.

Although I don't like Meta, Facebook and Zuckerberg, my next PCVR headset will probably be a Meta Quest (4 or 5).

Got Humble Bundle for Hifi Rush. So sad they closed the studio. I guess the main guy left last year, Shinji Mikami.

Any thoughts on the rog x? Same chipset but more ram. Will it improve performance much? I'm leaning waiting on new chipset via Deck 2.

Performance uplift over the original model will only be in the 5-10% range. The battery life will be double though. The SD Card slot issue that they won't really cop to should be resolved. The main issue is if you happen to get a bad unit, Asus' RMA situation is incredibly suspect.

Honestly, I'd wait for the AMD Strix Point based handhelds. The design addresses one of the biggest issues with these handhelds, memory bandwidth. So unless you find some great deal, I think you should wait.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 just got a mod that prevents you from sliding off rocks and cliffs
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/dragons-dogma-2-gets-a-must-have-mod-that-prevents-you-from-sliding-off-rocks-and-cliffs/
Modder ‘Nickesponja’ has released a must-have mod for Dragon’s Dogma 2 that prevents you from sliding off rocks and cliffs. This is an amazing QoL improvement that will significantly enhance your gaming experience. So, make sure to download it if you’re currently playing Capcom’s latest title.
Now I get it. Sliding off cliffs and rocks can make DD2 a bit more “realistic“. However, you can easily slide off a cliff during a fight and die. You can also slide off rocks and die while exploring the environments. And hey, why do we need realism in a game in which you can ride dragons?
The point is that this mod can make Dragon’s Dogma 2 more enjoyable. It has nothing to do with being less realistic or easier. This is something that Capcom should have included (at least as an optional setting).
>> There’s a short video of the mod.

NetEase Games has released the story trailer for its upcoming 2.5D action platformer, Rusty Rabbit. Rusty Rabbit looks at first very similar to F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch. However, this might be a game with a better story than it.
