AMD Ryzen 9 5900 & Ryzen 7 5800 Zen 3 OEM Desktop CPUs Launched

https://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-9-5900-ryzen-7-5800-zen-3-oem-desktop-cpus-launched-8-core/

OEM only? Seriously?

Even Intel gives DIY users the ability to purchase cheaper chips. This would be like if Intel only shipped K series chips. If anyone thought AMD at the top would be fine, it's time to rethink that idea. This is exactly why we need competition.

Hopefully AMD will still release a DIY version.

Damn those non X look damn good and only runs at 65watts - even the 5900! But only OEM.. AMD lul.

Maybe these are the lower binned chips that couldn't make the cut for retail and are sold as OEMs.

Ryzen 5000 APUs leaked:

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-ryzen-5000-pro-zen-3-apus-game-changer-for-businesses

Quite some power in those 65W APUs as it beats Zen/Zen+ Desktop chips, partially due to outstanding cache performance. Main drawback: They are not compatible to PCI-E 4.0.

And the next one hit by the chip shortages is... Realtek.

Which means that Audio chips will become a rare commodity - and as a result, mainboards and Laptops will get their supplies limited in turn.

Those little guys pack a good punch, but I don't understand why AMD decided to not include PCIe 4.0. It could have been the final nail in the coffin of Intel's laptop market.

The shortage of Realtek chips is unbelievable. Is there anything that's not in short supply nowadays?

Keep in mind that at it's base it's a mobile chip that's being used on desktop here. Considering that PCIe 4.0 still needs quite a bit of power, enough to require active cooling on most X570 motherboards, I think  it would just have soaked up a lot of the power budget of the chip, way too much to be viable in it's mobile form.

As for what's not in short supply, I'd say shortages...

Could be that AMD needed to lock these chips to OEMs for now due to the chip crunch to ensure having something to deliver to them. The Cezanne desktop chips were already pushed back one quarter due to it to have enough supply at launch, so chances are that they will come at a later date if the chip crunch resolves itself at some point.

Maybe but they really should have announced something by now. Last time they announced the cheaper versions at launch, at least for their mid-low end chips and Intel always announces the cheaper versions.

SSD (With DRAM cache)+8GB is good for a basic rig depending on what the rest of the system is and what they are doing with it.

I had to check it to be sure because I wasn't sure about it (the PC is from 2014). They're an A8-7600 paired with a Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-HD3, and have a regular 3.5" HDD. I could have sworn that it had an FX 6300... well. my memory isn't what it used to be.

Changing to an SSD could also mean getting a new Windows license because he upgraded from Win7 to Win10 and, if I have to get RAM, SSD and Windows, it makes more sense to just go all for it and change the CPU and Mobo as well.

You are definitely held back by the spinning rust drive.
In saying that... The 4-thread bulldozer derived CPU isn't doing you any favors either, but that isn't the bottleneck for basic tasks like web surfing.

If you aren't willing to make the switch to an SSD... Perhaps a Sandisk Readycache drive if you can find one cheap might be more suitable, it will cache data from the mechanical disk and my own testing has shown marked improvements in system responsiveness.

But yeah, that system is showing it's age now... Even the old Ryzen 2200G would be a night and day difference.

I was surprised by the CPU (or should i say APU) inside his rig, it's definitely time for a full upgrade.

You may be right, but I'm still surprised AMD did't go for it, even if it's only for the bragging rights. And they could use the lines from the CPU for that while using a chip capped at PCIe 3.0 like the B550.

Oh, and yes, we have plenty of shortages nowadays, much to our dismay.

Far Cry 2 Modernized HD Mod is now available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/far-cry-2-modernized-hd-mod-is-now-available-for-download/
In 2019, we informed you about Far Cry 2 Redux. And today, modder ‘PuppyUnicorn’ released a reworked version of it. This is a mod for those that want to replay this classic FC game, and we highly recommend downloading it.
Far Cry 2: Modernized is essentially a game overhaul; prioritizing graphical fidelity, realism, and consistency. Far Cry 2 Modernized brings bug fixes, extra content, a custom HDR and sharpness-based ReShade, upscaled and improved textures.
As said, this mod uses Far Cry 2 Redux as a base. Therefore, all the improvements that this mod features are already included. The modder has also managed to further increase shadows, LOD, terrain, and render distance.
Moreover, this mod includes some other FC2 mods too.

This Valheim labeled storage box mod will change your life
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-valheim-labeled-storage-box-mod-will-change-your-life/
Since Valheim launched, busy Vikings have been fighting to keep their storage chests organized as often as they've been fighting trolls and greydwarfs.
First, someone figured out how to stack chests on top of one another using little wooden shelves, then someone realized you could place the chests sideways to cram more of them into a smaller space. Extensive labeling systems using wooden signs were quick to follow, though it's still remarkably easy for your storage room, filled with rows of identical chests, to get disorganized from time to time.
Well, here's a life-changing solution for your Viking's storage needs. It's the Item Drawers mod. This exceedingly clever mod adds a new craftable box (it requires 10 fine wood) that will transform your storage room in an absolute paragon of organization.

Modders find native online co-op code in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance
https://www.pcgamer.com/modders-find-native-online-co-op-code-in-the-binding-of-isaac-repentance/
The final expansion of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth took a while to reach us. The Binding of Isaac: Repentance was first announced back in 2018, and there was a delay of a few months from December 2020 to March of this year as it slowly approached release.
Now that it's here, players are flocking back to the roguelike en masse: The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth recently broke its concurrent playercount record on Steam set in October of 2015.
And there may be another reason for players to stick around a while. After Repentance's release, modders dug around in the game's code and found signs of a native online co-op mode, and even managed to get it working with up to four players.

Tomorrow's Hearthstone patch will nerf Deck of Lunacy, Jandice, Pen Flinger, and more
https://www.pcgamer.com/tomorrows-hearthstone-patch-will-nerf-deck-of-lunacy-jandice-pen-flinger-and-more/
ast week, Hearthstone lead designer Alec Dawson noted that much-needed balance changes to address the Hearthstone meta's descent into lunacy were on their way, and more details would be coming soon. Now, in a blog post just published, we've got those details—and yes, Deck of Lunacy is being nerfed. Its cost is doubling from 2 to 4 Mana, and hopefully that will be enough to prevent No Minion Mage from being such a regular annoyance on the ladder. (Right now there's a copy of Deck of Lunacy in 22.6 percent of all decks.)

Horrible things are going to happen to your villagers in Gord
https://www.pcgamer.com/horrible-things-are-going-to-happen-to-your-villagers-in-gord/
They're calling Gord a "strategy adventure" game, and I can't disagree with that label: There are narrative prompts and quest expeditions, and you'll gather resources and manage a town. They're also calling Gord "grim," and I can't find fault in that, either. It reminds me a little of Frostpunk, but without the punk and with giant spiders, child sacrifices, and some other very bad stuff. One guy gets swarmed by bugs (locusts?), and another guy's arm appears to spontaneously snap. Pretty grim!

Corsair Sabre RGB Pro Mouse Review: the High CPU Cost of 8,000 Hz

"Corsair says your system should sport a Intel Core i7 9th Gen or AMD Ryzen 7 2nd Gen CPU or higher to use the Sabre RGB Pro at full clip. And they aren’t kidding. In some anecdotal testing using my custom-built Ryzen 5 2600X system, I saw CPU use spike 10-16% or more when just moving my cursor around quickly at the desktop. That lessened to about 6-10% when doing the same thing on a more recent Ryzen 7 3700X machine. "

Yea I'd skip this mouse.
