Chip size and power supply details leaked – NVIDIA Ampere GA102 in Samsung’s 8 nm increasingly likely. Grain of salt plox.

He admits that the pic is nothing more than speculation from his part, so the salt part isn't even necessary.

That said, and given the sizes of the chips these days, it's no wonder that both Nvidia and AMD are looking into MCM designs. They're getting stupidly big.

My issue is here that with AMD adjusting their prices up to Nvidia, they are actually doing the worse thing. Nvidia has raised their prices in the past 5 years considerably, but that coincides with them putting out banger after banger of GPU. Nvidia architectures haven't just been great because the lack of competition, they are great just on their own and compared to their own products. Nvidia has been innovating and not holding back any performance even though they easily could've. Their price hikes may not be completely justified but you know what's even less justified? AMD adjusting their prices up without delivering competitive products.

If you go hard on Nvidia for high prices you should go even harder on AMD if they follow it up. If we want prices to come down due to competition then AMD has to price their chips at the level we would like them to have based on their performance and features. But we already know AMD won't do that.

Nvidia's higher prices are basically just our self imposed tax for them not putting on the breaks when they could've due to a lack of competition.

That's what people said about Intel before Ryzen showed up. Something is only the best of the best until it's not.

Now I agree that it doesn't seem as though Nvidia slacked off on the same level that Intel had, but when they strategically launch models against the competition with just the right timing, as well as price cuts at times, are they really being all that they can be for the consumer? Could those products and cheaper prices not have come sooner?

AMD likely won't do that because it will probably mean Radeon only sells marginally more and will just end up losing money, or selling more GPU's for the same profit anyway. In that case AMD might as well make as much as they can by doing as little as they can within reason.

Yes, those price drops could've come sooner, if there was any competition sooner. for example If anything it's a great sign that they instantly lower prices as soon as there is competition.

While lower prices are nice I cannot fault a product for its price when it is unique in its performance bracket. It's the additional cost for getting something that you cannot get anywhere else. Now guess how that could be solved.

Ok but you pointed out that Nvidia will try to price match Radeon or close enough, so unless AMD purposely sells at cost, how can they compete? It seems to me that if Radeon is less performing and cheap or expensive, they lose, the same performance for slightly less or the same, they lose, so the only chance in a situation like this, is to simply be the very best and then there's no reason not to sell the most while charging the most, right?

They essentially need a hail marry architecture that can allow them to do just that. Zen wasn't just a better version of FX or a better version of what Intel was doing with their consumer cpus. It was very different architecture. They need something like it. Whether or not they can do it and whether or not Nvidia is too far ahead is another question entirely. They can try to charge comparable prices sure but that's a very short term strategy that won't go very far as charging similar pricing changes the perspective from underdog value company to Pricey but worse. Why would people want to cheer for AMD if they are gonna do the similar horrible pricing as Nvidia but without the features and drivers? Cause that would mean that if AMD were top, they aren't gonna bring prices down, they would increase it further while giving you less than Nvidia...

If a hail mary is quite unlikely to happen on AMD's part, then they are probably doing the right thing then. If they can't catch up to Nvidia, and almost no amount of reasonable price reduction will help build the brand, then they might as well make bank while they can.

AMD has tried many different approaches in the past with decent tech and prices, and it didn't help very much. If consumers expectation is far exceed Nvidia in price and tech or else, those consumers are likely to get exactly what they are asking for sooner than later. Nvidia as the only dedicated GPU in the consumer market, with slower advances and higher prices. Too bad most won't realize they are partially to blame.

An unlikely hail mary from AMD Radeon?

Otherwise Radeon eventually exits the dedicated consumer GPU market and Nvidia offers less for more, and everybody complains while wondering how the market got to that point, blaming everyone else but themselves?

Imagine another Intel CPU situation with GPU's, but no Ryzen 'savior' following next time. Just imagine what CPU's would be like now without Ryzen, and with the mindset that you should just keep buying Intel because screw AMD. Were Intel CPU advancements not slow enough with mind boggling pricing to go along with it?

In saying that, we can't just hand over our cash for terrible products, AMD needs to earn it.

I also like to believe that if we were to do that en mass, then Nvidia would also learn that they could get far lazier and just pull and AMD with charging high and giving out less improvements/tech features, and then we'd be completely screwed over.

When it comes to PC hw, I don't think anyone should see themselves, nor treat as being a sort of charity to an already insanely rich corporation, be it AMD, Intel or Nvidia. Like you said, they need to earn that bread.

My points were no useful direction forward as to how to actually fix the whole problem. Mostly just observations and where it could lead.

It is certainly correct that handing over money to AMD for terrible Radeon products is not a good idea either. The money needs to be earned. The question is how good is good enough, and are people willing to settle for reasonably less cost, while receiving equivalently less performance/advancement? With enough people on board with that, it's much more likely the underdog can at least get much closer to the leader or surpass them, though not guaranteed.

A pure capitalist mindset is a recipe for disaster. Pure Socialist is no different. Somewhere in between is where the balance needs to be maintained. Right now it seems the capitalist mindset is winning out which just may allow Nvidia to end up dictator of consumer GPU's. Though maybe King Intel, Lord of the CPU lands, will have something to say about it in due time.

How do you think your "just don't buy anything" solution will fix anything? You think a competitor will just jump into a market full force where people aren't buying and then hope they will suddenly start buying their shit? Not sure that's how economy works.

Dark Souls 3's ridiculous gun mod just got even better with Resident Evil 4-style aiming
https://www.pcgamer.com/dark-souls-3s-ridiculous-gun-mod-just-got-even-better-with-resident-evil-4-style-aiming/
I wrote about Dark Souls 3's Modern Firearm mod earlier this week, which adds a bunch of Resident Evil-inspired guns to the game. If you've ever wanted to roll around a decaying fantasy world with an AK-47, PC gaming can make your dreams come true. It's a cool mod to begin with, but in the days since the mod picked up attention, other modders have stepped in to make Dark Souls 3 look and play even more like a shooter. The result plays like a lost Resident Evil game, forgotten somewhere between RE4 and RE6.
Modder and cut content specialist Zullie the Witch first tried an FPS mod, but decided it was too hard to tell when you were stuck in an animation you can't roll out of. Zullie deduced an over-the-shoulder perspective would suit the shooting better.
So they made the damn thing.
>> It's available from Nexus Mods. And if you check the article you'll find a mod to replace the character with Leon Kennedy.

The problem  there, lies within the fact that Nvidia have pulled ahead with their offerings, like GFE, GFN and DLSS, so atm, we're already expecting less from AMD, but the asking prices will be high, so not only are expectations not even being met here, but the fact that their asking  prices will be out of touch from their end.

Again, firmly where I stand, they need to work to earn it, which means bringing what Nvidia has to the table. accepting less and paying more still buys into the charity ideal, which isn't something I would vouch for.

So far, all other spectrums have proven that going all in for each can be equally as bad, but as it stands, Capitalism is what the current market operates on, and socialism with the GPU market wouldn't even begin to work out well.

AMD so far are creaming Intel's CPU div, as well as the glaring and disgusting fact that Intel still refuse to fully and abruptly address their CPU vulnerabilities, while AMD has been working on theirs. Sure, Intel still has some of that mind-share, but that is now starting to fade, while Nvidia's is not, because AMD isn't trying as much as they are in the CPU dept, but then again, Lisa and co seem to just care more about a fight they know they could win over the long term, and just wait till Nvidia gets bored with the GPU market in the future (which they likely will, going by their ventures into other tech markets)

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, the upcoming expansion, isn't out until sometime later this fall, but during a livestream today Blizzard announced the beta would begin next week. CtW Investment Group, the organization that said in June that Activision CEO Bobby Kotick is paid too much (and called on shareholders to do something about it), has now leveled a similar complaint against Electronic Arts. In a letter to shareholders, the group complained that EA is paying multi-million-dollar bonuses to executives, particularly CFO Blake Jorgensen and CTO Kenneth Moss, while shares are underperforming and employees are being laid off.

Dual Universe beta starts in August, will require a monthly subscription fee
https://www.pcgamer.com/dual-universe-beta-starts-in-august-will-require-a-monthly-subscription-fee/
Dual Universe "allows millions of players to interact with each other in a single, fully-editable world," declares the narrator in the trailer above. It's a spectacularly ambitious claim, which naturally makes a person wary—among all the other attempts, will this really be the giant voxel MMO sanbox that grips us? We should have a better idea after August 27, when Dual Universe enters beta.
It won't be a free beta, though. You don't see this too often anymore: The Dual Universe beta will cost a monthly subscription fee that ranges in price from about $5.83 to $7 depending on how many months you purchase at a time.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's new anti-cheat system has been introduced in the game's latest update, but its rollout has been anything but smooth.
Trusted Mode blocks the vast majority of external processes from interacting with the game, requiring players to close any offending programs and restart CS:GO before access will be granted. While trusted mode can be disabled through adding "-untrusted" to the game's launch options in Steam, doing so will not only prevent you from accessing any VAC-enabled servers, it also reduces your trust factor, which in turn impacts on how matchmaking works.
