In saying that, we can't just hand over our cash for terrible products, AMD needs to earn it.

I also like to believe that if we were to do that en mass, then Nvidia would also learn that they could get far lazier and just pull and AMD with charging high and giving out less improvements/tech features, and then we'd be completely screwed over.

When it comes to PC hw, I don't think anyone should see themselves, nor treat as being a sort of charity to an already insanely rich corporation, be it AMD, Intel or Nvidia. Like you said, they need to earn that bread.

My points were no useful direction forward as to how to actually fix the whole problem. Mostly just observations and where it could lead.

It is certainly correct that handing over money to AMD for terrible Radeon products is not a good idea either. The money needs to be earned. The question is how good is good enough, and are people willing to settle for reasonably less cost, while receiving equivalently less performance/advancement? With enough people on board with that, it's much more likely the underdog can at least get much closer to the leader or surpass them, though not guaranteed.

A pure capitalist mindset is a recipe for disaster. Pure Socialist is no different. Somewhere in between is where the balance needs to be maintained. Right now it seems the capitalist mindset is winning out which just may allow Nvidia to end up dictator of consumer GPU's. Though maybe King Intel, Lord of the CPU lands, will have something to say about it in due time.
