I also like to believe that if we were to do that en mass, then Nvidia would also learn that they could get far lazier and just pull and AMD with charging high and giving out less improvements/tech features, and then we'd be completely screwed over.
When it comes to PC hw, I don't think anyone should see themselves, nor treat as being a sort of charity to an already insanely rich corporation, be it AMD, Intel or Nvidia. Like you said, they need to earn that bread.
