The Tuesday news, the second part:

Lead the resistance against the Nazis in Through the Darkest of Times
https://www.pcgamer.com/lead-the-resistance-against-the-nazis-in-through-the-darkest-of-times/
Games have let players beat the Nazis in countless ways, from organising the entire Allied advance through Europe to shooting Hitler in the testicles. There has yet to be a game that explores the German people’s own efforts to dismantle the Nazi regime from within, however, and that’s the gap which Through the Darkest of Times aims to fill (presumably with explosives).

Hitman 2 studio 'had to let a lot of people go' following split with Square Enix
https://www.pcgamer.com/hitman-2-studio-had-to-let-a-lot-of-people-go-following-split-with-square-enix/
Io Interactive has spoken with Gamespot about its split from Square Enix last year, which "decided to withdraw from the business" despite the studio's success with Hitman. Associate director Eskil Mohl told the site that "it's sort of a miracle" that Io is still around, but said that the layoffs it was forced to undergo as a result of its unexpected independence has helped the remaining team members pull together.

https://www.pcgamer.com/graveyard-keeper-update-lets-you-raise-the-dead-and-make-them-do-your-boring-chores/
On Halloween there are tricks and there are treats, but this free update to Graveyard Keeper is most definitely a treat. Not only can you now resurrect the dead with a new crafting table, but you can put your zombies to work, doing all the boring shit you got tired of doing almost immediately: chopping wood, mining stone, tending your garden, and even crafting and selling items. You can watch the trailer for the Breaking Dead update above, perhaps with tears in your eyes at the thought of someone else doing your neverending busywork.

Monster Hunter: World's raid boss, Kulve Taroth, is coming to PC November 2
https://www.pcgamer.com/monster-hunter-world-kulve-taroth-pc/
If you're a Monster Hunter: World veteran, you've likely been waiting a long time for Kulve Taroth to appear in the PC version. This golden Elder Dragon first stomped onto consoles back in April, before the PC version was even released, and hasn't returned since. Requiring a full team of 16 hunters to fight, Kulve Taroth is a boss unlike anything else in Monster Hunter: World. And, until recently, PC players had no clue when they'd get the chance to fight Kulve Taroth.
Thanks to a post on Monster Hunter: World's Steam blog by Capcom, we now know that the Kulve Taroth Siege quest will be available to fight for a limited time on PC starting November 2 at 5PM PT until November 15 at 4:59PM PT.

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, a grisly Japanese slasher game, is now on Steam and GOG
https://www.pcgamer.com/corpse-party-book-of-shadows-a-grisly-japanese-slasher-game-is-now-on-steam-and-gog/
Corpse Party, "a grisly horror game set in a ghost-infested Japanese high school, with a branching story and lots of ways to end up dead," officially came to PC a couple years ago. The platform transition was a little confusing—not even publisher Xseed seemed entirely certain about what it would and would not include—but owners on Steam and GOG seem pretty happy with it.

EA promises no 'pay to win' Battlefield 5 progression systems
https://www.pcgamer.com/ea-promises-no-pay-to-win-battlefield-5-progression-systems/
Electronic Arts has detailed Battlefield 5's progression system and in-game economy, which will feature two types of currency, one earned through gameplay and the other purchased with real money. In the core game, each full playthrough carried out in the same, procedurally generated game world. In the new Arcade Mode, the map will re-generate every time a room is exited and returned to. In other words, there's no way to learn the lay of the land.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey sales above expectation, The Division 2 expected to sell more than Far Cry 5
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/assassins-creed-odyssey-sales-above-expectation-the-division-2-expected-to-sell-more-than-far-cry-5/
Ubisoft has shared its earnings results of H1 FY2018, revealing that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is selling relatively well. Although the company did not reveal whether this new AC game has surpassed the sales of Origins, it did claim that its sales are above expectations and that 45% of those sales are coming from digital.
Ubisoft has also revealed that The Division 2 has set a new record for beta sign-ups and that it is expected to sell more than Far Cry 5. Far Cry 5 is one of the best selling titles for Ubisoft and outperformed Far Cry 4, meaning that the French team expects this upcoming title to perform even better than Odyssey.
Ubisoft has also stated that Rainbow Six Siege saw its second strongest activity ever with over 40 million players, and For Honor surpassed 15 million total players.

Steam continues with their usual deals, both the daily and the 4 Midweek Madness deals:

EA reveals Project Atlas, a game platform built on AI and cloud computing
https://www.pcgamer.com/ea-reveals-project-atlas-a-game-platform-built-on-ai-and-cloud-computing/
Electronic Arts chief technology officer Ken Moss has shared some interesting, far-looking insights into Project Atlas, an integrated "engine + services game development platform" that he described in a lengthy Medium post as " a vision for a cloud-native gaming future."
"We’re at an inflection point where major, complementary tech disruptors are falling into place. As an industry, we’ve made remarkable technological advancements in AI, cloud, distributed computing, social features, and engines," writes Moss.
(...)
The idea is to combine game engines and online services in ways that haven't previously been done by leveraging cloud-based computing: Players will install a "thin client" and then log into games that are running remotely on EA servers. On its own, that sounds quite a bit like existing cloud-based gaming services, but EA plans to use new tech to "enable deeper personalization, and to eventually create a world full of user generated content—blurring the lines between the discrete domains of game engines and game services."

Following PC beta woes, Fallout 76 will get a lengthier session later this week
https://www.pcgamer.com/following-pc-beta-woes-fallout-76-will-get-a-lengthier-session-later-this-week/
The highly anticipated PC beta for Fallout 76 just wrapped up, but it didn't exactly go smoothly: chief among the problems was the loss of the game files thanks to a Bethesda Launcher bug, and many (including PCG's Fallout 76 expert Chris) were forced to re-download the whole game. Depending on your connection speed, this could dramatically affect your ability to get any meaningful time with the beta.
To make amends, Bethesda has made an adjustment to this Thursday's beta session – it'll now go four hours longer than planned.

Bethesda elaborates on Fallout 76's microtransactions and Atoms currency
https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-76-microtransactions/
We've known for a while that Fallout 76's microtransactions will focus on cosmetics and not any pay-to-win nonsense, and Bethesda's Pete Hines has discussed how the game's Atoms currency pays out in Fallout 76 in more detail.
"If you don't want to spend money in the Atomic shop for cosmetic stuff you don't have to. We give you a shitload of Atoms just for playing the game," Hines told Gamespot at PAX Australia. "Folks that want to spend money on whatever the hell it is because they don't have enough Atoms, they can, but it's not, 'I'm now better playing against other players because I spent money.' It's not pay-to-win. And it's not loot crates."

Now what’s really interesting here is that according to Steamspy, the game has sold between 5 and 10 million copies on the PC.
>> If true, that almost guarantees that future games of the franchise will launch on PC too.

It's a shame the changes steam made to privacy made steamspy completely unreliable, it's really hard to track sales of PC games now. But MHW definitely hasn't sold 5m on PC.

The game had shipped 8.3m one week before PC launch. https://gematsu.com/2018/07/monster-hunter-world-shipments-and-digital-sales-top-8-3-million

So at 10.9m shipped now. PC sales can't be anywhere close to 5m. Steamspy is just bad now.

Realistically it's anywhere from 1.7m-2.3m

Thanks for sharing! It's a real shame the changes that Valve made and how they affected SteamSpy.

By the way, they have updated the article since I posted it here:

UPDATE: Back in June 2018, Capcom stated that the game had shipped 8 million copies. Now while there is a difference between shipped and sold copies, we can assume that the game has sold somewhere around 7 million (at least). What this ultimately means is that there have been almost 4 million sold copies since then (in total). We all know that most console games sell well during their launch period. As such, and by excluding one million copies, we may come close to the real PC sales numbers. At this point we are merely guessing here as Capcom has not provided any platform-specific numbers however Steamspy’s numbers could be really inaccurate in this case.

In any case, we can still say that the PC port has sold well, and that future instances are likely to come to PC again.

Eh, I'm trying to understand that articles update. They're claiming that the games sell-through was probably only 7 million, but it doesn't matter if it was sell-through or shipped, those shipped copies can't magically turn into PC versions? xD

But yep, the PC version has done every well as I've always said it will. Any future multiplatform Monster Hunter will also come to the PC.

Hi! It's very, very likely that I won't be doing the news today. Meanwhile, if you still want something to think about, here's a couple rumors/gossip:

Unusual high failure rates for GeForce RTX 2080 Ti?
https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/unusual-high-failure-rates-for-geforce-rtx-2080-ti.html
For a couple of days now there is quite a lot of chatter on the web with GeForce RTX 2080 Ti buyers having issues, problems even running up-to the level where the card is bricked. We've monitored the chatter on the usual channels for a few days to see what is going on, and yeah the Geforce forums are flooded with reports.

The problems reported are rather diverse, some have unexpected BSODs, other cards just die and other show artifacts. All this does not seem to be related towards tweaking and overclocking. The thing with forum reports, however, is difficult, only people that have an actual issue will report it, the ones that are happy would not visit any forums, so as to what extent this is becoming a valid issue that is higher than normal RMA wise we cannot tell just yet. But something does seem to be going on.

>>The problem may be overblown, as the happy consumers don't go to the internet to say that their card works well, and also because people with failed cards may be more angrier than usual given the high price of the 2080Ti.

AMD Could Solve Memory Bottlenecks of its MCM CPUs by Disintegrating the Northbridge
https://www.techpowerup.com/249108/amd-could-solve-memory-bottlenecks-of-its-mcm-cpus-by-disintegrating-the-northbridge
AMD sprung back to competitiveness in the datacenter market with its EPYC enterprise processors, which are multi-chip modules of up to four 8-core dies. Each die has its own integrated northbridge, which controls 2-channel DDR4 memory, and a 32-lane PCI-Express gen 3.0 root complex. In applications that can not only utilize more cores, but also that are memory bandwidth intensive, this approach to non-localized memory presents design bottlenecks. The Ryzen Threadripper WX family highlights many of these bottlenecks, where video encoding benchmarks that are memory-intensive see performance drops as dies without direct access to I/O are starved of memory bandwidth. AMD's solution to this problem is by designing CPU dies with a disabled northbridge (the part of the die with memory controllers and PCIe root complex). This solution could be implemented in its upcoming 2nd generation EPYC processors, codenamed "Rome."

With its "Zen 2" generation, AMD could develop CPU dies in which the integrated northrbidge can be completely disabled (just like the "compute dies" on Threadripper WX processors, which don't have direct memory/PCIe access relying entirely on InfinityFabric). These dies talk to an external die called "System Controller" over a broader InfinityFabric interface. AMD's next-generation MCMs could see a centralized System Controller die that's surrounded by CPU dies, which could all be sitting on a silicon interposer, the same kind found on "Vega 10" and "Fiji" GPUs. An interposer is a silicon die that facilitates high-density microscopic wiring between dies in an MCM. These explosive speculative details and more were put out by Singapore-based @chiakokhua, aka The Retired Engineer, a retired VLSI engineer, who drew block diagrams himself.

The System Controller die serves as town-square for the entire processor, and packs a monolithic 8-channel DDR4 memory controller that can address up to 2 TB of ECC memory. Unlike current-generation EPYC processors, this memory interface is truly monolithic, much like Intel's implementation. The System Controller also features a PCI-Express gen 4.0 x96 root-complex, which can drive up to six graphics cards with x16 bandwidth, or up to twelve at x8. The die also integrates the southbridge, known as Server Controller Hub, which puts out common I/O interfaces such as SATA, USB, and other legacy low-bandwidth I/O, in addition to some more PCIe lanes. There could still be external "chipset" on the platform that puts out more connectivity.

>>This is just speculation, but it maybe it could work if not for Rome, for whatever is Zen3. Oh! And each die is supposed to feature 8-cores, so we're talking about a 64-core monster.
