It's a shame the changes steam made to privacy made steamspy completely unreliable, it's really hard to track sales of PC games now. But MHW definitely hasn't sold 5m on PC. The game had shipped 8.3m one week before PC launch. https://gematsu.com/2018/07/monster-hunter-world-shipments-and-digital-sales-top-8-3-million So at 10.9m shipped now. PC sales can't be anywhere close to 5m. Steamspy is just bad now. Realistically it's anywhere from 1.7m-2.3m |
Thanks for sharing! It's a real shame the changes that Valve made and how they affected SteamSpy.
By the way, they have updated the article since I posted it here:
UPDATE: Back in June 2018, Capcom stated that the game had shipped 8 million copies. Now while there is a difference between shipped and sold copies, we can assume that the game has sold somewhere around 7 million (at least). What this ultimately means is that there have been almost 4 million sold copies since then (in total). We all know that most console games sell well during their launch period. As such, and by excluding one million copies, we may come close to the real PC sales numbers. At this point we are merely guessing here as Capcom has not provided any platform-specific numbers however Steamspy’s numbers could be really inaccurate in this case.
In any case, we can still say that the PC port has sold well, and that future instances are likely to come to PC again.
Please excuse my bad English.
