Some people saying there was indication of 8 cores per CCX now, but apparently nothing official?

Now that's what I call a real CPU.
I wonder what they're going to do for the lower end products.

Not yet.

I mean, we can see from that pic that each chiplet has 16 cores and that each chiplet in Rome has 2 CPUs with 8 cores each, but we still don't know if each CPU still consists of 2 CCX with 4 cores each or just one CCX with the 8 cores.

I expected AMD could do something like this to counter the difficulties of the 7 nm process in 2019 to potentially get an advantage over Nvidia and Intel. A low-power process, coupled with the CCX design (so smaller dies instead of monolithic designs for reasonable yields) were successful with the first Zen already, so they are going to try it again on both CPUs and GPUs. That's my take, at least.

Edit - eh, on the other hand, power consumption of the upcoming 7 nm Radeon Instinct seems disgusting. Unless there are huge IPC gains to make up for it anyone expecting next-generation consoles to be >10 TF beasts are going to be sorely disappointed, unless MS and Sony go for huge dies at low frequencies.

It's 8 Cores per chiplet. No confirmation on CCX.

There are 8 chiplets in that image surrounding the 14nm I/O chip.
8x8 = 64.
So it's 8, not 16. :P

I would think CCX is now at 8... Makes sense and allows for scaling on the mainstream platforms.

Don't get your hopes up on the GPU front.

SALES & DEALS

The Humble Store swings a big Warhammer bundle
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-humble-store-swings-a-warhammer-bundle-and-sale/
If Warhammer is your thing, you're probably going to want to check out what's going on at the Humble Store, which kicked off a Humble Warhammer Bundle today that has Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Game of the Year Edition, Talisman: Digital Edition, and the Talisman expansions Blood Moon, Harbinger, and Sacred Pool, for a minimum price of $1. That's not a terrible start—I don't know how popular Talisman is, but hey, it's a buck.
>> Yesterday it was a sale on the Humble Store, today it's a new Humble Bundle that will end in 13 days.

At GOG there's a midweek sale named According to plan featuring lots of strategy games up to 90% off: https://www.gog.com/promo/20181107_midweek_strategy

Irdeto’s latest report: Major sports title illegally downloaded 355K times in its first two weeks
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/irdetos-latest-report-major-sports-title-illegally-downloaded-355k-times-in-its-first-two-weeks/
Irdeto has shared some new data from its recent research regarding PC gaming piracy. As the press release reads, Irdeto tracked the downloads of a major sports title on P2P networks after the title, which did not include anti-tamper protection, was cracked on the same day of its release.
During the first two weeks, Irdeto detected 355,664 torrent downloads of the illegal copy of the title. Given the retail price of the game, this puts the total potential loss of revenue from P2P downloads at $21,336,283. The research also found that the first day of release is crucial for the protection of a AAA title, as 12% of the illegal P2P downloads occurred within the first day of the cracked copy appearing on the P2P networks (and a substantial number of these in the first hour).
The research, however, did not include the number of gamers that bought the game after testing/playing the pirated copy. As such, the real potential damage for publishers is not as enormous as the report claims. Moreover, a pirated copy does not equal to a lost sale as there are some gamers that are simply tempted to download the game in order to test it (similarly to what demos were back in the days. And since these days there aren’t any demos, some gamers are using pirated versions as mere demos and nothing more. Of course it’s illegal but then again these gamers were never part of the game’s target group and would had never bought the game).
>> I like how the author of the article shows the missing points of the report.

MODS/EMULATORS

First 2019 version of the ALOT Mod brings brand new HD Textures to Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/first-2019-version-of-the-alot-mod-brings-brand-new-hd-textures-to-mass-effect-1-2-and-3/
As we’ve already reported, brand new versions for the five best Mass Effect 3 mods will be released later today. And prior to their highly anticipated release, modder ‘CreeperLava’ released some new high-quality textures for all the first three Mass Effect games.
In case you aren’t aware of, A Lot Of Textures (ALOT) is a visual upgrade of the Mass Effect trilogy. ALOT features thousands of high resolution textures across all 3 games, providing high resolution textures for squad mates, environments, weapons, armours, enemies, allies and more. ALOT also restores a large number of unused, high resolution textures from the vanilla game, that were hidden away in the game files.
The latest version of ALOT for the first Mass Effect game adds hologram textures by Darziak and Mellin’s reaper textures. For Mass Effect 2, ALOT adds MaryseDynasty’s Quarian textures, MaryseDynasty’s Aria textures, hologram textures by Darziak and Volus texture. As for Mass Effect 3, ALOT fixes the lighting on the remote detonator object and adds new London Graffiti texture by Mellin, MaryseDynasty’s Quarian textures, MaryseDynasty’s Aria textures, hologram textures by Darziak and Volus texture.
>> The three versions of the mod are available from Nexus Mods: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3.

This Starship Troopers mod turns the movie's big action scene into a Horde mode shootout
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-starship-troopers-mod-turns-the-movies-big-action-scene-into-a-horde-mode-shootout/
Even though Squad is a great shooter, it is missing one important thing: giant, terrifying sci-fi aliens. Inspired by the terrible-but-secretly-brilliant '90s B-movie Starship Troopers, the Troopers mod started enlisting future citizens when it launched a couple of weeks ago. It's still in development, but it's already off a promising start: Squad's unit-based communications and logistics make a perfect backdrop for fighting endless waves of bugs. It looks and feels remarkably like a big action scene in the middle of the film.

The Fallout 76 beta now locks the FOV and caps framerate at 63 fps
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-fallout-76-beta-now-locks-the-fov-and-caps-framerate-at-63-fps/
Last week we were able to run some initial benchmarks of Fallout 76 to see how it fares on various GPUs. Today, with the second to last beta and a 30GB update in hand, we hopped back in to find Bethesda's short-term fix to speed hacking. As we feared, rather than fixing the engine to properly handle higher framerates and refresh rates, a framerate lock is now in place, and adjusting FOV (field of view) is likewise disabled.

After a few delays, Overkill’s The Walking Dead has finally shambled onto Steam, accompanied by the cinematic launch trailer above. We’re still putting it through its paces for our review, but it doesn’t make the best first impression. I took it for a quick spin today, and things did not go very well.

I/O doesn't scale downwards in nodes very well either... Because allot of die area is for things like routing... So it makes sense to have that on an older, cheaper process and bringing the cores to the latest and greatest process.
