So im curious now that we have prices of both consoles.  

what is the most powerful PC you can put together with a budget of $399 and does it compare to ps4. would be interesting to see if anyone can beat a ps4.

and if you want compare a $499 PC to xbone

 

What im trying to say is that anyone who thinks consoles are overpriced dont have a leg to stand on. they are clearly value for money. and compared to things liek a damn cellphone which are sometimes 50% more expensive is rediculous

Of course the PlayStation 4 is cheaper than an equally powered PC. The question is, is it cheaper after five years of PS Plus? And when you factor in things like the lower costs of software on PC's, you get something pretty similar to equal pricing.



ps4 is cheaper because sony will get as example money from royalties which also means that games are more expensive because of that. you really have to know how many games you buy over the years and stuff like that to know how expensive gaming on a pc or console is about the whole gen. just comparing the price of the device itself doesn't work to know the costs of gaming on different devices. 



For about $400, you can probably get close a current gen power, but nowhere near next-gen



You always forget that hardware power is nothing compared to how it's used.

For exemple, the real-time demo Quantic Dream or Guerilla showcased look way better graphically than any Battlefield Ultrasetting or Crysis mod.

In fact, the futur is not in hardware anymore but in Engines : it's like the Mhz or Ghz race of the PC or the megapixels race of the Camera few years ago; it's ridiculous and doesn't mean anything.

The last impressive results we've seen in gaming weren't because of the awfully slowly evolving (and expensive) graphic cards but because of new engines like Frostbyte 2, CrysEngine, Unreal4 etc...and that's why lots of big publishers lie Square-Enix or Kojima are doing their own engine.

By the time, new graphic cards REALLY make a difference, they'll release new engines for games you won't find on PC anyway (Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Halo, Gran Turismo, Gears of Wars, God of Wars, Forza etc...)

My point here, AGAIN, is that the Graphic Card race is not relevant anymore, the GTX Titan is not that different from the 780 is not that different from the 770 that is not that different from 680 etc...and the result are all up to engine that are ALL available for consoles.

In fact, the futur is really now about Engine and software like the Dream Engine or even more futuristic, the Brigade Engine 2 can testify...



Consoles definitely have far more value for money when compared to PC

The graphics card race is still relevant, it's just slower. But with the slower development of graphics hardware, engines evolve slower too. There's no point in making a super technical engine with ray-tracing and stuff if there is no hardware to support it.

What do you mean Dream Engine and Brigade engine? Never even heard of them. Frostbite, UnrealEngine and Cryengine are the best engines, man. They give the best graphics fidelity from the hardware in your machine.
