Forums - Gaming - PS3 version DMC takes 22 minutes to install!!!

Probably their testing was incomplete (like happened before). It makes sense that early parts of the game load faster than later parts of the game.

The reading speed of DVDs are dependent on the location of the disc being read, for dual layer DVD discs on a 360 drive that's 10.8 MB/s for the outer edges but slows down to 4.1 MB/s for the inner layers.

If anyone read the IGN review of the game, they said that the load times on the 360 version are, on average, three times longer than the PS3 versison. So the twenty minute install isn't that bad, considering that the load times are so much shorter.

In reply to some claims within this thread, on average the PS3 drive loads faster than the 360 drive can read dual layer discs.

The reason for the 5gb download

The reason for the download isn't to improve loading times by one second, its because the Blu Ray drive spins too slow, I'm sure MikeB will gladly give us the specs on how slow the discs reads.

They had the same problem for Oblivion (slow drive speed), the PS3 Oblivion team compensated for the slower drive by duplicating data across the Blu-ray disc, making it faster to find and load. The DMC team probably downloaded the data onto the PS3 so that it could find it faster.

"Bethesda's Pete Hines also commented that recent reports of data duplication on the PS3 Oblivion disc have been exaggerated, and this technique isn't different from the similar strategy that was employed in the creation of the Xbox 360 game last year. " Source: Gamespot

You're welcome.

1. 20min install does not give any lowered load times. 1sec savings is just bs unless you're a drag racer.

2. I have never taken more than 5min to install any PC game. The only things I have installed that take this long is an OS and some programming software.

@tombi

This news is all over the net, from many sources.

They should have just did it like the 360 and been done with it. I mean waiting 20 mins to first play the game or waiting 8 vs 7 seconds for the game to load .... I'll take the extra second anytime.

I guess you never installed Wow then :P ( and no I don't mean the patches, just install the original CDs).

You're not gonna take a shower during the install either because every 3 minutes or so it ask you to put a new CD in...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

What about seek time?

If the game gave you an option, I don't think any players will choose 20min. to download.

I loved the demo

PS3 Devil will make you CRY with 20 min install time

So over the course of an eight-to-ten hour game you might get your 21 minutes back over 360 players with ever-so-slightly shorter loading times. But really?

I am surprised no one else picked up on this line. So a 20 minute install can be "gotten back" over an 8-10 ten hour game one second at a time?

If there are that many load screens, I could do a 10 hour install to shave a second off each one (overnight while I sleep of course).

According to IGN the load times are 3x faster on the PS3 than on the 360 version if the game. Not that is really matters. Pointless nit picking is all this is.
