We were just kind of drifting apart. Sure at 2.5 years in everything was sugary-bananas and caramel-cupcakes, but things such as life got in the way. She was into everything that I wasn't and vice versa.
On top of it, stress, money, chores, friends who don't get along, outside influences, etc. really compounded the problem. Lack of time hanging out as a result led to resentment on both sides, missed opportunities, problems.

We fought, but we always overcame it. I made a lot of mistakes taking my anger out on her, something that I surely won't do again next time.

Best advice I can offer is to make sure that money doesn't get in the way, and try to work on common interests together.  

Stress and resentment led to me hanging out with other girls, and after that the book just started writing itself.

I think we are both better off having been together, and we will both be better being apart. As I said, we will continue to remain the staunchest of allies and friends, and will hang out. But we need time apart. Eventually, if it was meant to be, it'll work itself out. Nothing is forever,

DONT HANG OUT WITH HER! Why do people insist on causing themselves pain? Seriously dude, if there's no hope of staying together as a couple and you don't have kids then leave her the in the past.

One day she will look back on this whole crazy time and say, "you know, that really was a good game"

haha, yeah, I know the advice, I've heard it before.

It's definitely over, but really it would be a shame to throw away what we have and my future gf will just have to accept that. She really is my best friend. We will figure it out, it'll just take time :D

Really, are you that surprised? Married couples divorce after any number of long ass years. Don't be scared of breaking up dude, that often results in actions that cause the break up.

I was talking to a random stranger about marriage on line in a store once and he had like 20 yrs. in, I'm going on 14 and we were swapping stories and laughing and shit. I noticed this old ass guy on line behind us smirking and I made a comment to him about how he must think we are rookies and he said he had like 37 yrs. of marriage or something like that. Then he says," It's a long and bumpy road guys". I thought to myself, here is a guy whose been married for a LONG time and he's too old to give a shit now about leaving his wife or whatever but all he could say after all that time is that it's a bumpy road. LOL, he's probably spot on.
