Forums - Gaming - An interesting thought on Bioshock Infinite's Ending (SPOILERS)

SPOILERS. Obviously.

Anyway, for those for have beaten the game, I'm sure much thought has gone into all the different possibilities of what happened, happens, and will happen. It is called Bioshock INFINITE afterall. An interesting thought occured to me this morning, as I just beat the game for the first time last night. Amazing game btw, hopefully it won't get overshadowed by my current playing of The Last of Us, but, I digress.

Have you considered that Booker from Infinite is Jack from Bioshock 1; while Comstock is Andrew Ryan from Bioshock 1? Think about it. Both Booker and Jack are on these missions to utopian-like socities run by intelligent, almost facist men in Comstock and Ryan. Also worth noting, in the original Bioshock, the Bathyspheres worked only for Andrew Ryan and his relatives because of genetic lockout. This means that Jack was related to Ryan because he could use them without issue. In the end of Bioshock we found out Jack is a clone of Ryan using ADAM, so they are the same person genetically. When Booker goes to Rapture in Infinite, he uses the Bathysphere without any problems meaning possibly that he also, on a genetic level, is the same person.

So broken down: We know that Jack is Ryan, and Booker is Comstock. Based on genetics and their similar roles as villians in both games, my theory is that Comstock is Ryan, as well as Booker being Jack. If you put that together, Jack, Booker, Ryan, and Comstock are all the same person, albeit existing in different universes.

Also: Daisy Fitzroy was the revolutionist that was responsible for the fall of the city of Columbia; the same as Fontaine/Atlas did in Rapture. Some simulatires can also be drawn to Tennenbaum and The Letuce twins, although it's hard for me to explain. They did both help the protagonist along the way I guess? IDK.

Not sure if this is a new theory or (more likely) everyone but me knows about it since I just completed the game. Reguardless, a wonderful game. I would safely put it in my top 10 games of all time.

Thoughts???

No. Andrew Ryan isn't Booker. Neither the timing, the location, the ideology, nor anything else really makes that work. It is theoretically possible that Comstock went through a portal to the world of rapture (there is the implication that the songbird technology is from Rapture's big daddy tech), but there is really no evidence to indicate that.

Furthermore, Jack was born in 50s or 60s so he couldn't be Booker or Comstock. Jack's origins are pretty well documented, so there is really no way he could be either of those. As for Andrew Ryanovski, there is a chance he could be an alternate reality version of Anna (the timing would work out a little better for that), but again the evidence for that would be a bit sketchy.

The link between the characters might be more symbolic. In a sense, Comstock is Ryan. There are obvious parallels. There is always a man and there is always a city. If you think of the lighthouses as not all possible realities, but solely all possible Bioshock realities, then it makes sense that they'd be able to operate the bathyspheres. They man not be genetically linked, but they are the same archetypical characters.

I disagree. The timing has nothing to do with it. If it's a parallel universe, then timing isn't really an issue. Considering Infinite involves tears that allow people to go back and forward through time.

Wouldnt that also make Booker Ryan? Afterall, Comstock and Booker are the same person.

I think so, yes.

I just finished the game yesterday, and it was very good. I've finished the other two Biohsocks, but did not pay as much attention to the story as I would like to/should have. The way I understood it is that during the game, Booker is Comstock, and therefore Elizabeth's father. In a different universe, Booker had accepted the baptism and became Comstock. However, what happened is that the Elizabeths drowned Booker, and therefore Comstock never existed. With Comstock having never existed, he coulnd't have become Andrew Ryan.

But i suppose there could be other universes where Booker wasn't drowned. If he accepted the baptism and became Comstock, he may have ended up somehow becoming Ryan and maybe Lady Comstock becomes Sofia Lamb?. And I suppose there could be a universe where Booker somehow becomes Jack. I don't think that's what happened, but I'm not leaving it out of the question.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Not exactly what I meant.  The link between Comstock and Ryan or Jack and Elizabeth is metaphorical.  They're each part of retellings of the same story.  Metaphorically, they represent the same things, but I don't think they're literally the same person.

I didn't read too much into the story of either one of the Bioshock games, but playing Infinite certainly did give me the impression that both games are on the same wave length in terms of characters and settings. I do think they are the same but in a different universe.
