It's been worse, though I can somewhat understand why its mostly Sony fans after going from first to third in the blink of an eye and jumping into the secondary format wars.

 No Wii fans merely point out the truth, but PS3 fans seem little thin skinned this gen, unable to take their fall maturely, things like supply constraints seem to get PS3 fans all riled up.

Also, we've never had such complete diversity before.

We've got:

-A low-powered, cheap, innovative system that has a lot of unique types of games. It has gimped online.
-An extremely high-powered, expensive system that offers HD gaming and nice online, with a built-in HD movie player.
-A system that lies somewhere in between the two in price, that is (marginally) less powerful than said other system, and offers a mix of more casual games as well as more games for dedicated gamers. Also, RROD must be taken into account, as well as the fact that it currently has the best online system for a console.

As you can see, we have three extremely different consoles this generation, so it's expected why some would feel a little more hostility toward a console they did not choose.


In my opinion, the best console war was the last one, because all systems were affordable, all were pretty well-made, and all systems were extremely similar in power. That meant that the 'war' came down to one thing--exclusive games. That's the way it should be.

This is no worse than the console bickering that took place in the fourth generation (SNES and Genesis/Megadrive). The only difference is that now people can argue on the Internet instead of doing so face to face. Things haven't magically gotten worse recently, it's just an inevitable truth that so long as there is more than one console manufacturer, there will always be fanboys and fanboy arguments over which is better.

Mortal Kombat SNES vs. Genesis spawned more fights than anything I've ever seen this generation.

I could care less about sales or which console has the best library or 2008 lineup. It's when people call my console of choice a kiddie gimmick that I get a little irked. The elitist "hardcore" gamers with their "mature" HD consoles. It's so condescending and unfounded.

I'm only saying this towards FANBOYS of 360 and PS3, and I know Wii has its fair share of fanboys too. Thankfully there are sane people on all sides that appreciate each console for what it brings to the market. Someday I'll own all three. Then I can look back at all this bickering and laugh. also, some gamers are pissed off because they don't like the direction wii is going

and then many wii supporters are enthusiastic because they are excited about the direction wii is taking the industry (not just because they 'chose the winning console' or are nintendofans4life like some would have u believe)

the motion controls EXCITE many people who were getting jaded by video games, so that comes through on this site

Forums are most definitely not the format of choice for circle jerking your fellow stooge. Those who use forums are most likely to have strongly formed opinions, and to strongly object to any theory from another that contradicts their view. Hell without a healthy amount of conflict a forum falls apart. Everyone agrees and then there is nothing more to say. Thats why you need to be careful with the ban stick get to happy, and you chase off dissent. Without dissent there is nothing left to discuss. People may hang around to circle jerk for a couple weeks, but its really over at that point.

You want to be on a ventrillo server, or go to a chat room. You can babble there for hours without end, and everyone will be a friend. Thats not what a forum is though. You need to accept a level of disagreement.

I think the reason for the bashing is the major shifts in the market, and some people whine while other people gloat, both much more frequently than before. There is no winner or looser in this; no side(s) /isare any better or more mature, really.
Sites like this didn't exist last gen, which shows how many and how strong emotions are attached to this gen imo.

It's fun! PLUS, this generation EVERY console has plenty to bitch about! Last gen was pretty lame, each console did roughly the same thing, and they all had roughly the same features, and debatable equality on hardware reliability. This generation FEEDS flamewars and if you keep an open mind it's highly entertaining!

I mean this generation is just too great and different for there NOT to be any bashing :3 And personally if you have enough belief in yourself that you bought the right console, you shouldn't be letting anyone sway you over :P Just take it in and bask in it's glory!
