Forums - Microsoft - A Vocal Minority Of Idiots (& Journalists) Ruin Innovations On The Xbox One

I agree with that article wholeheartedly. All this move does is set console gaming back another generation, assuming MS and Sony don't move towards digital and lock down their consoles over the course of time this gen. The majority of the people complaining were people who either weren't interested in the console in the first place, or would have been once they saw what little difference it made to their "rights".

What we're left with is a generation where the consoles are not much more powerful and everything else is the same. Forza, Infamous, Killzone, Battlefield, CoD, etc, all this stuff looks just like current gen games in terms of gameplay. I am most excited for Titanfall and does it do anything super special not possible on current gen? No. And that's a sad state of affairs for the industry.

Xbone would have been a breath of fresh air with some of its features, it's a shame we'll likely never see them and instead just play Xbox 2.5 and PS 3.5.

I like your posts because they are always somewhat reasonable and make a lot of sense. So I will ask what was it that the Xbox One was going to be able to do before that it can't now that would have made it such a breath of fresh air? I am asking because I am not REAL tech savy in the aspect of what it could have done so I am not sure...so figured I would ask.

The biggest thing for me was the family share feature. Which, even if limited to SP only when 2 people play the same game, was an amazing feature for a platform handling digital copies of games. People bitch about their rights and what not, this was an element that was entirely consumer oriented. There is also the ability to play any of your games anywhere without having to bring a console or memory card or something. These are locked down on both current consoles and you can only do it with restrictions. Being able to family share a game with a brother or friend is cool. Being able to go over to his house and not only have the full game available off the cloud, but also all my content and saves for the game.. amazing.

The cloud uses for gaming is another potential killer app that is affected by this. If some are online and some are not, there is less a chance developers will cater to the people who utilize the cloud to its fullest imho.

Not to say there aren't positives. I was skeptical and worried about my ability to resell games. Well now that's not an issue. But that was pretty much my only worry. Now they just have to fix that price.

The family share feature was confirmed to be limited to 60min of play.

Just to remove any doubts about the Family Share Plan...

CBOAT confirmed that it works for 60 minutes.

No more discussion about that.

Yes, just like PS+ is actually not required for online play on PS4. Since he said online play would not be put beyind a paywall. So no more discussion on that.

Ahhh okay I got you now. Yeah the family share was a very nice feature. If I am reading correctly it is kind of how it is now with the PS3 and cloud by logging in as your self from another console or what not(atleast I think it sounds the same). That would have been a lot easier and would have been pretty cool. Not sure if it would have helped or hurt the industry though. But I do understand your point and it does suck to have lost that.

Now as for the cloud and it's uses for gaming, they can still be applied right? So that's not as big of a deal it is just all of to the developeers to utilize the cloud. Hopefully they still do, because I am curious to see the benefits from it for us as gamers. If it is anything like people say then developers could make some pretty good tweeks to the game sof today.

Lastly I feel that gaming in itself is pretty stagnant across the board(Sony, MS, Nin and PC) we are basically AT THE LIMIT as far as graphics so and now most games on ANY platform have been done before. The most we can see is building on what is already done and polishing/prefecting it while adding personal tidbits here and there. So now where the industry goes is all up to the imagination of the developers. But good post and input as always and thanks for answering my question!

If MS had found a way to achieve those bullet points without stripping away consumer freedom, I would have called it innovation.

Well there were apparently MP restrictions and stuff so I think it was more of a way to get people into a game with the hopes that they would then go out and buy it. Developers certainly can still utilize the cloud, I just worry about the priority it will receive when they know some people have no Internet. Kind of like the HDD and no HDD 360 consoles. Developers had to design games as if the machine had no HDD. I think as the gen progresses and great broadband becomes cheaper and more readily available, it will improve. Kind of like how on PS2 at the start we saw plenty of online games neutered by catering to people with 56k, but by the end a lot of them required broadband.

I agree about the stagnation. I hope they change things up, we saw plenty of developers and publishers go under this gen. With the new gen being the same policy wise, seems we could lose some more.

Clearly someone is paying those prices in enough volume to justify keeping it there. If nobody bought those games, they would go down in price like everything else. That just tells me people tend to be more affluent or spend more on Xbox marketplace, probably not an unreasonable assumption.

I'm appauled. Oh yes, there are some people that pay it. Shall we leave the Xbox live platform for them then? Since its obviously that that restrict group gets wallet raped willingly because they dont know better and they obviously are the target.

Who cares about the other customers aslong as they can fool a handful of schumps huh?!

I sincerely cant understand the people that defend these practices, i really cant.

There is nobody being fooled, game x is for sale at x dollars. Some people will pay for the convenience, some will look for better deals. Nobody is entitled to cheap games. If people can't afford it and nobody buys it, they will lower the price. Otherwise you have to pay to play.

do you not think they will not improve much,i'm no techie but i thought the much bigger ram next gen should blow away last gen let alone the other improved parts for devs

Yeah it sucked to see so many studios tank. But I agree later on down the line in the gen we will see developers make a change!

"When your family member accesses any of your games, they’re placed into a special demo mode. This demo mode in most cases would be the full game with a 15-45 minute timer and in some cases an hour. This allowed the person to play the game, get familiar with it then make a purchase if they wanted to"

Laughing my ass off, yeah that´s the future ololololol
