Forums - Microsoft - Things that are made worse with todays Xbox One DRM change

IM seriously pissed off about this.

now this has happened there are so many amazing next gen things we will all miss. Don't get me wrong Microsoft have the best exclusives Imo for next gen so far. The most varied genres and the best visuals.

but sharing, full game libraries and what happens to cloud processing now? Will devs make 2 options on the game? Forza 5, titanfall and ryse for example all make use of cloud processing.

i hope i don't just end up with a ps4 as my xbox one. What a crap next gen that will be. That's not next gen, its this gen with prettier graphics.

damn the bloody internet fools who couldn't see past what they think is their rights etc. Microsoft were offering stuff like family sharing which pissed all over used games.

As long as microsoft is able to offer fast app switching, cloud syncing and rest of the goodies for digital purchases, I think this is somewhat ok. Just don't buy a disk based game, ever, and you will be good.

Family sharing is a big loss but other than that everything still works as it should for digital purchases.

Why can't there be a DRM system similar to Steam? If you wish to go online and register the game under your account, then you get the benefits that it offers, such as playing without the need for the disc or cloud based sharing? It's a nice middle ground that increases convenience and does not seem like the consumer is forced to use it...

I read the articles as you having the choice on system setup of going DRM free or having the existing policies they've announced since E3. DRM free gives you more flexibility but you'll lose the benefits of a cloud based profile. If this is correct its great as I would like the cloud based system as I don't buy/sell used games and the sharing features would be awesome amongst my friends . I would have been annoyed if they had removed the cloud profile option given all the benefits they sold to me.

THere is no choice. They removed all DRM and it will operate almost identically to X360 does now. Probably with more cloud features though for game saves and profiles etc.

Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 have DRM right now.  This myth that DRM doesn't exist with 7th Generation consoles is fallacious.

I'm pretty sure if you download the titles, you will still have the library facility?

Lol... people are still going to find a way to spin this negative. Get over it guys. Microsoft made the right decision and they just earned my $499.

And to think, I was just about to pre-order a PS4. Dodged a bullet with that one.

It obviously wasn't "internet fools", it must have been the pre-orders compared to the PS4.

I just realized that Microsoft is 1 step away from fixing this for everyone.

When I buy a retail copy, give me a choice... Let me choose, digital, always on DRM, or disk based DRM when I'm installing it.

Digital DRM - no resale, no disk swapping, fast switching and all goodies that come with digital software

Disk DRM - last gen disk swapping but with resale stuff

Can we get a petition going people?? I'm serious... :)

That's not a bad idea.

I'd prefer digital being new at $45 while disc is $60 as well as giving digital better sharing features like any 5 other consoles/devices. Similar to Android/iOS.

If MS who makes the damn console can come to term with this mess, why can't some of its fans?

Let it go, they were in the wrong and are trying to move away from it. You guys should too. Now fans will have choices, unlike when MS dictated what to do with games people would purchase.

Your post brings nothing to the discussion dude. My points still stand...

It stands nowhere as nothing got worse. This is good, a lot of share stuff came out of nowhere, probably to appease some, it can still be implamented if they want to. But as a whole, it's a great day for xbox nation. It's really all positive.

Postive...not according to me, few people in this thread. This article...

We don't know the full scale of this yet. What if Microsoft decides to make a smaller no-disk version of Xbox One in 5 years? Half of your library can't be played cause you couldn't install your disks and make them digital...

What if a portable all digital console comes out that plays xbox 0ne games? No disks for you...

What if Nvidia Shield makes an app that allows it to stream Xbox One games to it. Except it can only stream games you have tied to your profile...hence no disk games can be streamed.

You know you can cancel preorders...

I usually would agree, but some people seem to genuinely like the old features of the xbox one. What is wrong with the ps4?
